I really do like this game, but it's basically Mega Man 1's Gameboy port as a fanhack to make it slightly harder.
- Sprites are too big
- Can't see very far ahead (Gameplay area is about the dimensions of a Gameboy screen)
- Enemies shoot you from off screen (You can shoot them when they spawn just offscreen too, but only after you memorize their locations)
- Constant near-death jumps by spikes and double-jump points next to pits
- Weird double-jump/swim mechanic when hopping on the surface of water like a ninja
- Good soundtrack (I've only listened to the remix version admittedly)
So it boils down to another indie game that remembers the NES/Gameboy days for the difficulty and hardware limitations first and the fun second. Because of that I can't recommend it to anyone.

Get ready to have about 10 minutes of fun. I would instead recommend you download Kid Nikki for NES. It's just as hard as this game, but was made decently. This game is super duper pooper repetitive-ive-ive-ive.

Good for the price. A very simplified retro game. The worse thing is that it's a little too difficult and frustrating.

Each stage is a puzzle that you solve by memorizing it and having a bit of skill. If you like that concept this is a great game.

almost a good game, but the enemies flying at you from off screen while you are jumping quickly dissapearing platforms ruins it. sad. regret my purchase

Really fun platformer. Some parts are difficult, even when on easy. Still a great simple action platformer.

Ninja Senki DX is a fun and small platformer that is inspired by Mega Man, Ninja Kun, and Ninja Hattori-kun. I used to play those games a lot back when I was a kid on my FC and upon immediately noticing similarities, I grabbed it without thinking twice and I gotta say it was a breeze! I would be lying if I said it's a very easy game for casual players but it is indeed very easy for seasoned platformer players and it's fun too! I used to play Ninja Kun while waiting for my grandmother to prepare dinner for me and Ninja Senki DX definitely brought back a portion that feeling.
There's not much to say about the game since it's a simple platformer with simple controls. There's this Normal Mode that you can casually play and Hardcore Mode where saving isn't allowed and you get a 100 score penalty each time you use a Continue. There's also a Boss Rush Mode and a secret Ronin Mode that allows you to play as a different character. Keep in mind that Hardcore Mode rules also apply to Ronin Mode. The outcome of the ending also changes depending on how well you do overall so, try to stack up them scores as high as you can if you want the best ending.
So yeah, if you're looking for a simple nostalgic game with NES feeling, Ninja Senki DX is definitely the one!

The game started as a freeware game, and you can still legally download it for free. You really should buy this game either if you're a huge fan and want some additional modes or if you want to support the developpers.
As for me, I saw it featured ninjas, so I couldn't resist.

There is a clear emphasis on NES and GB Mega Man games, but unfortunately, this game goes out of its way to avoid the fun parts and doubles down on the annoying aspects. You have screen crunch, a weapon that's almost unwieldy because it gets stuck on ledges, cheap enemies that take more hits than they should, enemy ambushes, and damage sponge bosses that rely on cheap spam attacks that can be next to impossible to dodge. If you want a legit tough ninja experience, go with Super House of Dead Ninjas. Leave this one alone.

I see so many games that want to be modern versions of NES classics. 90% of the time, they fail to emulate anything but the limitations of the medium - only two buttons, limited color palette, etc. Ninja Seki DX knows what made the greats of the era great, and what separated them from the hundreds of shitty NES games that we've all since forgotten about. Tight controls, challenging gameplay, and level design that teaches the player as they play.
I really wish this had been released in 1990, where it would have gotten the acclaim it deserves. As of now, it sadly remains in the indie bargain bin alongside dozens of visually similar but far, far inferior retro-style platformers. Please give it a chance!
