Warhammer 40,000: Darktide - Hive Scum Class DLC

The Hive Scum comes screaming from the depths of the hive, sowing destruction and mayhem in their wake. These dangerous cartel fixers represent the criminal powers that some say truly run Tertium.

Genuinely confused at how many recent comments are calling Hive Scum weak or a bad class. Just got mine to 30, and even leveling it I felt extremely powerful, especially compared to my Skitarii that I also just leveled to max. I think it's a skill issue or something because Hive Scum absolutely blasts, Desperado is insanely fun, both the Dual Stub Pistols and Dual Autopistols are fun (they do feel a little weak until you get a some core talents, specifically Improved Desperado). I don't even feel like a glass cannon on this class as others are suggesting, you get unbelievable mobility with their dodge talents and some solid toughness regeneration options, it feels like one of the easier classes to survive on in my experience. Also nothing will beat the feeling of nuking a pack of 10 Carapace creatures with the rocket launcher (you don't even need a build to do this, you can do this the second you hit like level 6 and unlock the talent for it)

If you are warhammer 40k pilled like me we gonna keep buying and playing cuz reasons. XD But honestly this DLC and all the Other DLCs is a scam. What was the reason for me buying the micro transactions in game if it did not go to getting free content and classes. Are we just paying for microtransactions for fun now.... They have barely added any new content and the cut scenes feel like slides in 4th grade compared to vermintide. The class is fun, but why is there no ingame cosmetics to get for the class like the OG classes. Did an intern make the class and they where not allowed to integrate the old systems XD. Also why does the DLC classes only one page of micro transactions while the OG classes have 3 pages. Capitalists have no clue how to make money any more XD What a joke. A little side tangent, why does it take 1 to 2 minutes to load pictures of items and the character portraits in this video game. The character portraits don't even move, how did warcraft 3 having movement in character portraits freaking 24 years ago and we can't load PNGs in less than 1 to 2 minutes XD I'm having fun but fatshark is def a scam company. To bad my countrymen keep going down the scam route for all their games. I apologize for all us Swedes!

At first I wasn't a huge fan of the class; it seems too much like a glass cannon, but as I've gotten used to the class it's grown on me, and one of my favorite melee weapons in the game (a poisened meat cleaver with two modes), and when playing casually the dual-pistol is fun as well (the .45s...the autopistols I'm not as hep about. Paired with an Ogryn or even a fanatic who is good working in a pair, this is a fun, effective class. I'd say it's more fun than the admech class, but definitely not as powerful as arbites. You will lose health quickly if you stand still, but then a lot of your class is about mobility and dodging; you aren't standing still and sniping as much as other classes, and you will be very much in the action.

At first release, this class was the weakest class in the game (and thats saying something because I have played Damnation as a level 5 Psyker) but once Fatshark made the changes needed, the hive scum is now a formidable ally on your team, I hope you like moving fast and dodging like your local m*** neighbor because thats what you will be doing while slashing, blasting, and getting hopped on through waves of enemies. An extremely fun class with awesome melee weapons but the range weapons feel a little lackluster to me, does it beat Arbites? Absolutely not, is it fun to play and rewarding when you master? 100%

When the class was released I was a bit taken aback but it offers a unique and very fast playstyle. Also the female voice actor for the "psycho" is amazing.

An interesting class with some cool designs, but very beginner unfriendly. You get a decent pile of new weapons to explore. You get a separate skill tree for customizing your stims although it's rather straightforward without any very interesting tree designs you can do. Incredibly lacking in cosmetics, you have like 3 or 4 variations of "shirtless grimy peasant" and that's it. Fatshark made this whole robust cosmetics system for the game but didn't put aside any time to actually make use of it for this class. A shame, since in theory this class could have some fun outfits if Fatshark actually put a minimal amount of time into it. Overall, a pretty mediocre showing. Not great but at least it's not horrible.

This is a mildly hesitant recommendation. I have enjoyed playing the Hivescum, but there are some reservations I have. Firstly, again like the Arbites, the price is too high for a game that has an actively used cash shop (cosmetics only). Secondly, the Hivescum is (even after buffs) very fragile. You absolutely need to know what you're doing when it comes to dodging and pushing or you'll get beaten into a pulp. You also need to watch your cooldowns carefully (for both your ability and your special custom stimms) since they can work as Get Out of Jail Free cards but can also ruin you once they wear off and you've come down from your high. The Hivescum can be extremely destructive in exchange for this fragility. If you build it correctly you can sweep through hordes killing everyone easily and eat bosses for breakfast, so long as you never ever ever take a solid hit and lose your rhythm. It can, however, be argued that anything the Hivescum can do the other classes can also handle while not being as prone to exploding into giblets. The Arbites is overall a stronger recommendation before trying this class. I suggest waiting for a discount of some kind at least.

I hated this class on launch and quit the game for 6 months. Every lobby was overrun with nothing but hive scum teams. The class had zero survivability and underwhelming damage, feeling like you were trading defense for almost nothing in return. Matches fell apart instantly with all the hive scum players dying. Then I came back. The class got a huge rework, some much needed survivability buffs, and now it feels pretty amazing. A lot of its ranged weapons feel underwhelming outside of a very overpowered one, and it has some sections of its talent tree that feel like bad choices, leading to some dead keystones and auras, but this is an issue some of the base game classes have as well. Veteran basically only has one good ult, but is still one of the best classes in the game, and hive scum feels more in line with that design now. I feel like this will always be a controversial class because of the state it launched in and how its design clashes with what the community wanted for the game and for what people imagine for 40k, but people who give the class an honest chance now will find it offers some very fun options. It's just a shame that it released in the state it did. SKITARII TOMORROW

I've played this class for over 20 hours now with everything fully maxed, and I have to say: Hive Scum is pretty mid. For a ranged playstyle you get akimbo pistols or SMGs that feel underwhelming in terms of damage. On the melee side, you're stuck choosing between dual shivs or low damage cleave weapons. The entire class revolves around chemical damage and constantly managing stimms, which ends up being high effort for low reward. Having to inject yourself every single minute gets old really fast. After switching to Arbites, the difference is night and day. He feels unique, powerful, and actually rewarding to play. Meanwhile, Hive Scum is all about high mobility, low health, and spammy attack patterns. It can be fun in the right hands, but it’s very punishing and requires your constant attention. I wouldn’t recommend Hive Scum to most players. If you’re looking for a strong and enjoyable class, look elsewhere.

echoing Tanner Lindberg This class is an enigma it has to do the most work in the game and play with as little mistakes as possible to only do about the average you can do on every other class This leads to the class feeling very disappointing to play. As you need to be extremely careful to avoid virtually all damage. For the reward of occasionally doing about the same as everyone else. When the class's mechanics are on cooldown, which they are more so than every other class in the game due to a unique way they work. You are strictly worse. If that was all my issues with this class were. I would just not review it however, this class also introduced a bunch of new bugs. Certain enemies have massively increased radiuses on their attack,. A lot of critical nodes to the class flat out do not work. Some do the opposite of what they are supposed to do, actively making you weaker. And if you don't watch a Youtube video or read a guide, it is impossible to navigate this. Even despite all of that I still would not be leaving this review if not for this final point. In Fat Sharks previous game Vermin Tide 2. They sold new classes for $5 these classes could use a wider range of the total selection of weapons. They also used to always correlate with new game modes and multiple new maps. In Darktide we're getting just a new class where if you look at the percent of the total, gets to use less of the weapons in the game. And costs almost 3 times as much. DESPITE ALL OF THAT It is this final point that annoys me the most. it was HEAVILY implied several times before this game even came out. That the cash shop Would be the way that it is, to support future development, but we would be getting free updates, maps, classes, weapons. Off the back of it they silently walked this back. And now charge more than they've ever charged. For frustrating disappointing classes that didn't bring a new game mode. Only brought one new map, one of the shortest in the entire game I may add. And we still have the overpriced FOMO based cash shop. None of this is to even mention how due to the nature of this class. The entire community has effectively become split between people that can make the class work and people who cannot. If you currently voice your opinion that you are having trouble with this class, there is a very high chance you will be told some very nasty things about it. All in all this class does not bring anything to the table. Most of its weapons are remixes of weapons that already exist. Its mechanics already exist in the game, (stimms) It is massively overpriced for what it offers. And the free content that came with it is something you can fully experience within 10 minutes. We waited effectively 7 months For that. A 10 minute mission and a disappointing class. While spending more than we used to. For god''s sake one of the advertised selling points of the classes is new hair styles WHICH YOU CANT EVEN USE OUTSIDE OF THE CLASS borderline false advertising that one
