Probably the best RTS game I've ever played. Really complex tech tree makes it so that even the same faction can be very different sometimes. I just really like the game.

Supreme Commander 2 is a real-time strategy game developed by Gas Powered Games and released in 2010. As the sequel to the acclaimed Supreme Commander, it aimed to refine and streamline the series' complex mechanics for a broader audience. While it succeeds in making the game more accessible, it also introduces changes that have sparked debate among fans of the original.
The most notable shift in Supreme Commander 2 is its simplified gameplay mechanics. The unit cap has been reduced from 1,000 to 500, and the vast, sprawling maps of its predecessor have been replaced with smaller, more manageable arenas. This change was designed to reduce the length of matches and make the game more approachable for newcomers. However, many long-time fans felt that these adjustments diluted the strategic depth that made the original game so compelling. The removal of tiered unit progression and the introduction of a research system, where upgrades are applied directly to units, further streamlined the gameplay but at the cost of some of the series' signature complexity.
Visually, Supreme Commander 2 adopts a more stylized art direction compared to the first game. The environments are detailed, and the game runs smoothly even during large-scale battles. However, some players have noted that the graphics, while functional, lack the polish of the original. The character models and animations are less detailed, and the overall aesthetic feels more cartoonish, which contrasts with the serious tone of the game's narrative.
The single-player campaign follows three commanders from different factions—United Earth Federation (UEF), Cybran Nation, and Illuminate—as they navigate a galaxy on the brink of war. The story is more character-driven than its predecessor, focusing on personal motivations and political intrigue. While this approach adds depth to the narrative, some players felt that it lacked the grand scale and epic storytelling of the original game.
In terms of multiplayer, Supreme Commander 2 offers both skirmish modes and online play. The matchmaking system is straightforward, and the game supports up to four players in co-op missions. However, the online community has dwindled over the years, making it challenging to find matches. Additionally, the game's netcode has been criticized for occasional lag and connection issues, which can detract from the multiplayer experience.
Overall, Supreme Commander 2 is a competent real-time strategy game that offers a more accessible entry point for newcomers to the genre. While it introduces several changes that streamline gameplay and improve performance, it also loses some of the complexity and depth that made the original game a standout title. Fans of the first Supreme Commander may find the sequel lacking in certain areas, but for those seeking a more approachable strategy game, Supreme Commander 2 provides an enjoyable experience.

First got this game free for gold on the xbox 360 back in the day. I fell in love with it as soon as I experienced this masterpiece. I have very little complaints about this game because it's been one of those beacons of light for me. I just hope I am not alone in this passion.
