The camera combat is a little weird and was hard to get used to but it is very different, in a good way.

The game is not able to maintain a stable 60fps on 4k no matter how I tweak the settings. Its really dissapointing. I also experience a few seemingly random crashes.

Remember how much of a BPD Sae and Mayu were on the original game? Ya take it up a notch where you can get hilarious photo mode opportunities

I don't know what the combat complainers are smoking, every ghost is defeated in 1 to 3 well-aimed shots which is VASTLY faster than in the original, I have already completed all but one of the endings and even when the wraiths got aggravated, they only heal maybe 15% of their HP at most except for bosses in which cases it seemed to be scripted, there's a camera filter that ignores any defence bonuses they get from doing this too, and with maxed reload even the slowest films load more than twice as fast, the other reviewers should try reading the tutorials. The gameplay is amazing, this is a great game, with great lore, great audio design and amazing visuals (if a bit heavy on the popping sometimes), and is completely true to the original. Wanted to add that the 100% completion is gated behind hours of farming the same content over and over again with no gameplay variation, be wary.

This is a cult classic game. If you played the original way back like I did, then it is a must buy!

As a huge survival horror fan, I was a bit surprised that it took me this long to finally play this game I’ve heard so much about. I'd already played Maiden of Black Water and Mask of the Lunar Eclipse when they came out on PC not that long ago, but somehow never got around to what many people consider the series' most beloved entry. Since I never played the original or Wii versions, I can't really compare this remake to those, so I'm judging it purely on its own merits. Overall, I enjoyed it. First of all, the game looks really nice, but it's a shame that it's so dark most of the time that you can barely appreciate the environments. The story was decent, and as always, I loved all the creepy Japanese folklore and legends woven into the narrative. That's one of the things this series consistently does well, if you ask me. If you're a fan of movies like The Grudge or Ringu, or if you liked Silent Hill f, there's plenty here to appreciate. Moving on, the atmosphere is easily the strongest part of the game. Playing alone in a dark room with headphones on is genuinely unsettling, believe me! The sound design deserves a lot of credit here: distant footsteps, strange whispers, creaking floors, and all the other creepy noises constantly keep you on edge. I don't scare easily anymore after many, many years of survival horror games, but this one managed to get under my skin more than once, I must admit! That said, I wasn't particularly impressed by the protagonists. Much like in the other games in the franchise I've played, they feel rather bland, and their facial expressions range from neutral to slightly more neutral… At times they genuinely look like porcelain dolls devoid of all human emotion, which doesn't exactly help establish a connection with them, as far as I’m concerned. I also can't say I was a huge fan of the gameplay. The main character feels painfully slow, and navigating tight spaces while trying to use the camera can be frustrating. Making quick turns often feels more difficult than it should, especially during tense moments when ghosts decide it's the perfect time to show up. It's not enough to ruin the experience, but it definitely tested my patience on several occasions. Playing with a mouse instead of a controller helped a bit. Still, there's plenty of content here to make up for these issues. Multiple endings, various difficulty settings, collectibles, hidden documents, and optional side stories add a lot of replay value for those who want to see everything the game has to offer. In the end, this is a good survival horror game, even if I wouldn't call it a masterpiece. It's not as action-oriented as Resident Evil, and its story isn't as layered or memorable as Silent Hill’s, but it absolutely nails the atmosphere and delivers some genuinely creepy moments. Very far from perfect, but definitely worth playing if you're a fan of Japanese horror.

Yes... if you're really really really into a slower experience. I say yes even though I did not personally connect with the game very much. I mean seriously slow. I personally got annoyed towards the end, feeling like the game was dragging its feet and I was beyond ready for it to be over. A lot of unnecessary padding of sequences to impede progress, and again, I mean a lot. That's a staple of older survival horror games, I know, I know, but something about this game made me frustrated in a way that older comparable titles never have. Also massively overcomplicated and the constant tutorials were annoying and mostly unhelpful to boot. The camera mechanics are a bit unforgiving (and the written explanations never once made sense to me), and adding that to Mio's abysmal running speed, this was frequently frustrating over enjoyable. I never once had the blind enemies behave as if they were blind. I even looked it up to see what I was doing wrong, but by all accounts I was doing as recommended and still constantly being found. Mayu's AI is... something. Not a gameplay issue exactly, but it was almost comical how she glitched around when initiating the hand holding mechanic, why was there only one way she could go into that animation? She also wouldn't hide with me sometimes and would give me a game over by just standing there during chase sequences. This definitely added to me being tired of her, when the whole goal of the entire game is to care about the twins and especially Mayu. It's not great. And I don't mind an escort character, that's not the issue, I feel as if the narrative, along with her AI made it harder to care about her. The dialogue is stilted and awkward, as it was prior. Nothing new. This is honestly not really a detractor for me, but seeing what the Silent Hill 2 remake accomplished by giving the characters a little more life did for James specifically makes me wonder if that could have been a good thing here as well. Model wise, the twins are pretty and generally well animated, but they do have a weird, waxy, doll like quality to them that is a little uncanny. The way they were lit sometimes made them look like they were lighting up under their skin like jack'o'lanterns. Mostly this game suffers from third act drag and boredom, feeling ahead of the story and dying as it quite literally limps to catch up. The lore is fairly basic, if you're familiar at all with Japanese mythos or have played the first game or the original for this remake, it's more or less the same. It's unfortunately timed with being so close to Silent Hill F's release date, as F offers a rich new story of somewhat similar material explored far deeper and in my opinion, with much better story-telling. Gorgeous atmosphere, pretty music and interesting side stories, but needed to be shorter for sure or cut down on random pointless chases. I can see why people love it, but it didn't hit for me nearly as much as I was hoping for.

I want to recommend this game but the combat is just too annoying. The graphics is great though takes more gpu power than the graphics looks even on max. Not a well optimized port. Story in the beginning makes more sense than the original. But ghost encounters happen more frequently and because the combat is so clunky and ghost are photo sponges that all have the exact same pattern of attacks. They become annoying rather than scary.

Got annoyed, deleted the game… then downloaded it again because I had to get all the endings 😭 .. Great atmosphere, creepy vibes, and a story that kept me invested the whole time .. Worth it 👍🏻
