I hadn't really played the original much so I don't have nostalgia for it. With that said this game is super fun. You can see a game like Grim Dawn getting inspiration from it. I don't understand the negative reviews because I've been having a blast playing this. If you like Titan Quest or Grim Dawn then pick this up, its a no brainer especially on sale.

Game is mostly just for nostalgia, but this is also absolute PEAK armor design if ya know what I mean. I wish more modern games would bring back some of these styles

Great game. Is it full of bugs? Yes. But so is Sacred 2 Gold, with the difference you don't have to mess around with the Community Patch and add commands to the .exe to make it run on modern systems while having to squint to read the text in-game. And I've had no crashes so far, playing on a PC bought 7 years ago. The only downside, for me, is that the new UI isn't as charming as the original one. Other than that, I bought this game fully knowing what to expect, and it's been great.

I would argue that this remaster was released very unfinished (and still needs improvement) which is definitely worth critique, but you really can't beat the ease or simplicity of playing a classic game like this with a single download versus struggling to get Sacred 2 Gold running on modern hardware. As it stands, save for the UI being less artistically creative, this is generally a pretty good remaster. My only remaining critique is that there is no fixed minimap/orientation as the game doesn't (yet?) have a "face north" hotkey or a way to lock the minimap, so the player will need to orient themselves accordingly. Safely giving this a positive review now that it is in a functional state, but the fact that it was released when it wasn't done cooking is something considering.

So I just picked this up despite all the negativity about the remaster. Here's the thing... the game is VERY JANKY. But for some reason I keep playing. I don't know what it is. The combat is very odd... it's very herky jerky, monsters and your character can get stuck in many places, and the graphics aren't anything to marvel over. The game itself feels like a hodgepodge of games put together like diablo, the baldur's gate/champions of norrath games and world of warcraft then they throw you into a GIANT world that feels like a MMO and say JUST GO! I'll give credit where it's due thou, the world is beautiful. The map is enormous and whoever put it together did a great job. The classes are very unique and there's so many builds and ways to play. However there is no respec in this game... or at least not that I'm aware of which kinda sucks because I can easily see myself putting a hundred hours into a character only to find items for skills I'm not using and I then won't benefit from those items. Every class has 3 skill categories and it's best to just focus on one. The game would very much benefit from respecing. I know there's another big patch coming to the game, hopefully the devs add a respec option to the game. Look is the game the greatest game ever? Heck no but it is fun.

The original version of Sacred 2 (which is included when you buy the Remaster) is still the best way to play the game. My thoughts on Sacred 2 Remaster: It plays really well on Steam Deck, so I appreciate the new UI and added controller support. I haven’t experienced any crashing on my Deck or PC, but there are some minor bugs I’ve noticed. Nothing gamebreaking, so I hope the devs keep it up with the updates. At a quick glance the config files are 99% the same as the original so if people want to edit the balance of the game they are still able to.

I initially bought this game at launch and ended up refunding it. But I gave it a second chance after seeing some of the updates, and I’m glad I did. It’s still not what you’d call modern, but if you know what to expect going in it’s enjoyable. Runs great on the steam deck too.

I bought it 40% off but its unplayable. When I use M+KB I have to be super precise when I click on the enemies to attack, if I miss my target my character simply stops attacking and moves there instead. Playing with a controller fixed that issue but then every menu and the inventory becomes super annoying to navigate.

A very competent remaster, which sits on mixed ratings currently due to a rocky start. Now, after multiple updates, it's the definite way to play Sacred 2, and basically the only way if you're playing on a gamepad.

I haven't beaten this game yet, I'm still on Chapter 7 and I still probably have a LONG way to go. But I want to give a review because I think I've put enough playtime in to talk about this. I've seen a lot of people complaining about the remaster mostly coming from returning players, but as a new player, I wanted to give my perspective on the game considering I think it would be a lot more refreshing, plus I have the playtime of 35+ hours to know what I'm talking about. First off, I enjoy Traditional Western ARPGs a lot and today it's harder to find games like this on the market because of the oversaturation of soulslikes. So when I heard this was getting a new release I was quite happy. I started playing when Patch 3 came out and I want to get some negatives out of the way first, because most of what I have to say is incredibly positive. First off, I did encounter a couple of crashes throughout. A couple in Patch 3, none in Patch 4, and 1 in Patch 5. Thankfully getting back to where you were is easy and quick and the intro studio logos are skippable. Another issue is the fact that some quest markers are completely broken and I cannot complete the quests sometimes because the markers won't properly update. I also find it annoying to have to babysit people on escort quests when they have no weapons and all the enemies decide to latch onto them and kill them instantly. And what's also annoying is the fact that the people you sometimes escort have no weapons and decide to fight the enemies around them that want them dead only to wind up dead with a quest failed. I also hate how in this game, it's either the long way or the longer way, meaning you can't go through shrubbery or go down most hills. The game wants you to take a certain path and continue that way and the game will have no if ands or buts about it. One part in Chapter 7 involves a gulch that I absolutely found tedious to complete and it's a multi part "Go this way, go that way, go back this way and then all around again." quest that is just painful. I also don't like how every bard only plays the one song throughout the game whenever you're in a town. Like did they not have a budget for more music? The only other negative I got to say is the fact that the geometry can be very glitchy and end up teleporting you up in the air without warning which is how I found one of the people to continue my quests. Other than that, I kind of love this game and I find a lot of the reasons I like it are mainly due to personal preferences in general. First, I love the tone of this game. The game's story (whatever it's about) is very light and contains lots of humor and wit about it. Although I don't really care about the story (not that it's bad or anything) the characters and quest givers you meet are really cool and unique, each one having a little story about them. There's one quest where I had to help a friendly werewolf in a town of werewolves get tobacco for her husband to impress him. She talks about how it hurts to see him look at other werewolf women and that she really wants to put a spark in their relationship. It's incredibly well written, and even though most of the quests consist of fetch quests, escort quests, kill this amount of enemies quests, the reasons behind the quests are usually really well written. I love this and as an aspiring writer I love how each character, no matter how small or important can leave a lasting impression on you. There's also tons of different fantasy races, including a section where you do quests for Lizardmen in the swamps they live in. I love seeing unique out of the ordinary fantasy races in my fantasy worlds, so the addition of them, werewolves, harpies and other quest givers like dragons, this makes me extremely happy. The characters usually have lots of interesting things to say in general and the worldbuilding of Ancaria is engrossing to me. Some might call it generic, but there's tons of history behind it in books you can read in game and I loved just interacting with all the weird characters despite there not being much choice behind it. As for the gameplay itself, it's a Diablo Style Open World ARPG that has tons of enemies to kill, hundreds of them. I found myself not fighting many enemies and just doing the majority of the side content, but I ended up changing my mind and deciding to kill every single enemy to get even the slightest bit of experience. I didn't find the side content that tedious to begin with, only a couple times I was frustrated but most of the time the reasons given for the side content was convincing enough to keep me going. The movement for your character is pretty slow, but eventually you can buy a horse or a special mount for your character class. I also appreciate that they tried something different and decided to gender fix the classes. I'm playing as a Seraphim (A Female Paladin like character) and it definitely feels great to be playing a different gender than I usually do in a game like this. I found the fighting and spells to be relatively smooth. You can customize different combat arts to do better damage overall and there's perks you can pick up that allow you to level up your combat arts. I found at the beginning I felt overleveled, but then it started to balance out by the later bit of the game where I fought enemies around my level. I also like how each region feels like it has something going on. There's one piece of side content involving defeating armies of undead, there's a lizardman cult you interact with in some quests in Chapter 6, you also get your class specific quests as well that eventually comes to an end by the middle of the game and the towns always feel like something is happening in them. I saved some slaves from fighting in an arena and now they just hang around a certain town I went to when I did that quest. There's loads of weapons and ways to fight and you have slots to try whatever build you think will work best at the moment. In terms of the world, it's pretty massive. While I mainly followed the beaten path, there was still loads of stuff I had to explore for side content that kept me busy. In short, I love the worldbuilding, the variety of fantasy races, the interesting way seemingly dull quests are written and explained, not to mention I also enjoyed the cheesy voice acting which some may find grating, but I found it fit the kind of light tone the game had. Would I recommend this game at this point? For CDN $25.99, yes. The devs are also updating the game seemingly every month with new patches. They are listening to feedback and making the game even better and closer apparently to the original version. The only other thing I need to note is you don't need to use a controller to enjoy this considering that was one of the main selling points. Instead, I used Keyboard and Mouse controls and I found it to be a comfortable experience. But I would really recommend it if you care about intriguing worldbuilding, interesting fantasy races, classic/traditional style ARPG combat, big huge worlds to get lost in with tons of dungeons to delve into and plenty of side quests given by interesting if small characters that are written above the usual quality for how redundant a lot of the quest types are. I love interesting worlds, uncommon fantasy races and classic fantasy storytelling and settings and this fits perfectly into what my tastes love. I might be biased about my love for this game because of that, but in all honesty I've thoroughly enjoyed my time with it so far despite the flaws. I would definitely recommend it to new players. If you're a returning player, I don't know. Maybe you have more problems with this than I do. But I went in with an open mind and still am having a great time.
