Squarelands is not a complete game. Once you complete your house, you have no goal. You could raid a dungeon, but you end up not getting anything worth the time. Heck, things are completely pointless (the above ground fire mage house thing). But, even with all these faults, I still love this game. No other game has ever given me the feeling that I felt when I first loaded into the world. I felt completely isolated. Like it was literally just my character against a world I knew nothing about. I would not recommend this game to a person wanting to have a enjoyable survival experience, but I would recommend it to people who want to learn how to make a good survival experience because this game has the isolation bit nailed.

Completely abandoned, which is a shame as this game had great potential, really wanted to see grow into something amazing. The game is still fun for a few hours but I wouldn't reccomend buying it for any price. 99% sure there's no way to contact the devs either, twitter account for the company hasn't been used since 2015, the youtube channel has one video which was the steam greenlight video and the offical website is no longer reachable. Wish I could refund this...

Played for a good amount of time. I don't have a lot of survival game exposure, but I do prefer 2D over 3D environments when available, so I looked for something like this when I wanted to check out survival games. I've yet to get Terraria, but this would probably be my follow-up after I get finished playing around with this game. I've had to dump a lot of collected gear and I mostly dump them into treasure chests and leave them at my shelter, old shelter or at cave entrance "shrines" I'd create to make the cave entrances more visible on the map. The underworld is full of torches I place around as I investigate for ore, treasure and experience heavy monsters. Spoiler: Collect bones from skeletons to make a powerful sword that moves the game forward a lot faster. I found skeletons on the first and second levels of the underworld and I assume the deeper I go, the more powerful the monsters may grow. My problems with the game are the large mobs of wizards that control strongholds throughout the surface area. However, I've taken it as a challenge to grow powerful enough to take on and wipe out these strongholds. I hope these structures are defeatable with a computer as powerful as mine. As noted in a prior review, these wizard mobs tend to spam attack and lag the game for me, which is frustrating and prevents effective skirmish assaults to pick off these fools. There does seem to be a lot more to discover in this game and I see myself putting at least another score of play hours into this game. I hope the developers return to this game and enhance it into popularity. Finally, Realm of the Mad God wasn't appealing to me as I wasn't looking for another MMO and as someone who has contributed some minor pixel art and effort into a game (The Mana World), I know I'd be honored to have many games use my art. I hope that more of this style of art is developed and used by Squarelands or a sequel to it and grow the play factor by leaps and bounds. So instead of backing away from these graphics, double down and be proud to use them.

I recommend this game. But only for people who like playing early access games. This game has some good ideas for its future, but it isn't as free as I thought it would be. Here is some ideas for the future: -Boss Battles ( like quests from ROTMG ) -More Characters to choose from, each with their own ability -Multiplayer, Local and MMO -Getting rid of bushes and just having trees. It's really annoying when I don't know which is which. -Spawning on the beach would make more sense. I don't know if you can spawn on a beach but I spawn in a forest every time, so having it be an island, also like ROTMG, would be cool. PLEASE FIX: -Fullscreen glitch where you cann't move your cursor to the bottom part of the screen. -Fullscreen Resolution. It's very choppy. -Building and mining glitch where you mine and build a block ahead of your cursor, which causes some problems.

Overall, you could say this game has a great concept, standing behind the rest of the open world sandbox/survival games. However, within the time that I have put into the game I have noticed a great lack of content, intructions, and a lack of inspiration to continue. Not only that, but as I began to expand upon my base and clear the area around me, I began to notice a series of glitches such as an overwhelming spawn of zombies, and even mobs spawning within the light of my base (interior); however, I do believe that this game has potential and am willing to recommend it to others under the knowledge that the developers will continue to work upon it. p.s. : Wouldn't hurt to have an achievement system that might keep playing inspired and interested.

I really like this game. it is very much like a solo version of realm of the mad god, which i like because i dont really enjoy multiplayer. it isnt really much like terraria though like the store description claims, but that doesnt matter because its good fun anyway. the main problem with this game is that there is no option to turn off the music without turning off the sound. this is really, really irritating. **Edit** they made a patch to fix the music problem. you no longer have to listen to rave music whilst playing. im going to enjoy this game so much more now. and they did this at a player's request. thank you devs, that was nice :)

First Impressions: Mix between Minecraft, Terarria and Realm of the Mad God. They say inspired by Terarria, but I think it's mostly like ROTMG. Not as fast pace as I wished it to be, but non the less it was fun for the little time I spent making a video on it. I missed a whole bunch of times, which I will most likely come to figure out, but as of now, I don't know why I miss. I would recommend this game to all, mostly to the ROTMG fans that would like a singleplayer experience. 10/10 PS: To the people who think these devs will get sued for taking ROTMG sprites, they wont. ROTMG doesn't own them, you can buy the graphics online for $25.

In its current form, this game is way too bare bones to be much fun, even for the $2 sale price I paid for it. No NPCs to buy trade or sell to (that I've found so far), Leveling doesn't seem to to much more than increase your HP/MP, Enemies are slow but make up for it by plowing through your defense like butter. you can swing your sword through walls. Enemies can spawn inside of walls. the first place you lay down a bed will permanently be assigned your spawn point, Making relocating a house a pain if you like to use teleport scrolls... which don't work as intended either. Stuck me inside of wall off to the side. [strike] and from what I gather, They ripped the sprites from another game (Only found that out after I bought the game.)[/strike] so yeah, Not going to endorse this one. EDIT: Thank you SanchezNI for clearing that up. I was led to believe that the sprites were stolen. My apologies to the maker of this game for making them seem like thieves. BUT It doesn't change my opinion that this game has a lot of work to be done before I endorse it. it seems that the game was released well before it was ready. @Daryl Zero. YES I played for 20 hours. Because I do not take reviews lightly. I'm not going to play a game for 10 minutes and then call it garbage because I haven't seen everything there is to see. occasionally I'll go back to a game to see if anything has changed, and I'll change my review accordingly.

If this were an early access game, I'd say that it was a fun little prototype with tons of potential. However, this is considered to be the finished product and I just can't recommend it. In short, it's very buggy, very unbalanced, and very light on content. You'll be ridiculously overpowered after 10 minutes, and you'll have seen everything that the game has to offer after about an hour or so. It's such a shame because the whole top down mining game concept works really well, playing this game can be addictive, fun and relaxing but you're just constantly reminded of how much better it could be with more time and effort spent. If I were the dev, I'd pull this and either go into early access or work on it for a year or two until it's ready.
