Playing Multi-Player with 3 others and one person is in my house, his rig hosts the server. Sometimes the friends can see the server and other times we cannot, only if we do not accept the steam invite and just launch the game and go to the friends tab, most of the time it shows for some of us. Most of the time I cannot see the server. If you accept the steam invite, then it will launch and directly connect you to the server but you will get an error that you are dead. if you press continue, then you just stay on the load error screen and then you lose control of your mouse and have to open the task manager to kill out empyrion.

2800 hours into this game; at least the 3rd set of developers at this point. Every time I come back to this game, none of the issues have been fixed and even more issues have been created. The devs will blame everything on scenario and content creators when a large amount of the issues have been proven to be the massive database that the game creates and cannot write quickly enough to. Ships and entities jump around and disappear and reappear because of the entity culling. Overall; play this game because it's the only one of its kind. It's like a lesser advanced version of Space Engineers. But don't buy it full price because even at $20 it's not worth it.

In my Steam account, I have more hours (1843) in Empyrion than any other game, and I really don't understand why. It's not a particularly gorgeous game (the janky creatures on the planets, the weapon models, etc are not spectacular by any stretch) nor is the coding particularly polished with more bugs than a corpse in the tropics. But the mix of survival crafting/building with epic space battles has me hooked. I think the main attraction is that you build spaceships block-by-block to battle the NPCs for loot and glory and that the individuality in each ship you can build is virtually limitless. Little scout ships through to massive carriers and battle cruisers, even huge hovercraft tanks are within the scope of this game and it is a clever mix of simple aesthetics and advanced engineering which create the unique complexity of the game. The trick is to make each ship capable of taking on more difficult enemies with a mix of thrust characteristics, hull and shield strength, and sheer firepower, all governed by the limitations of power generation and CPU. It all gets very complex, which adds depth to the game, but you don't have to be good at any of that stuff to get the most out of the game. This complex building system has spawned a ship crafting community which publishes their incredibly diverse creations via the game's Workshop and subscribing to them gives you access to the 'blueprint' - you just need to feed the materials into the in-game factory and presto! The ship is yours. This is my preferred way of getting through the game as, well, I'm a bit shit at building ships good enough to get through to the later stages of space exploration and combat. And I just don't have the designer's eye that some of the great builders do. But if you have a lust for replicating your favourite Star Wars or Star Trek ship (there are those in the community who have achieved incredible versions) and have half a mathematical brain, then you'll love this game. There is also a 'creative' mode where you can craft, test and refine your wild ideas with unlimited resources then 'publish' it to bring it into the game. Me? I enjoy the community as much as the gameplay. There are servers where you can team up with people and cooperatively conquer the universe and I enjoy 'seasons' of the game where the server is reset and you start all over again. Or you can solo through missions, exploring different systems and planets, engaging enemies in atmosphere or in space, building a trade network, creating incredible land bases or fleets of spaceships with different roles such as asteroid mining, in-atmosphere base assault or taking on the deadliest enemies in space. There are also subscribable scenarios created by the modding community such as the popular Reforged Eden which takes the vanilla game to the next level with different ship components and characteristics. But as mentioned at the start, there are gripes. The vanilla game is buggy, mainly because the developer is a small and somewhat insular operation without the budget to fix everything. And they don't play as nice as they might with the modding community, which is a shame because Empyrion could be collective greatness if they all pulled together. Overall, Empyrion may turn some off with its unrefined graphics and on-ground combat, but if you can get past that you will be rewarded with incredible gameplay depth and creative freedom to make it one of the most addictive survival crafters.

Got stuck on tree with a hover bike. Killed same enemies stuck in a wall. Won a battle with a big ship and it vanished retrieving stuff. A bug kept flying at me and i died. Same start missions with go do this and come back. Star ports are dull and void. Game is dead. Mods cant save.

Well, right out of the box....this game isn't tutorial friendly....i had to 'hunt' for the first unit to create for about 5 minutes rather than being shown a "flashing" button that would make me think "click here to find it". I have a survival tent, i throw it down and it's there....I stand in front of it and there's no reaction to the interaction button, no "open" or "unzip" prompt or no noticing my presence to open the door. I don't like using the word "stupid" because it's a mean word but when people seemingly go out of their way to make simple things stressful, i think the word applies. There should be some sort of 'voiced' AI leading players into how things work and giving explanation windows (while speaking it out) to 'ease' us into the game and how it functions. Instead this game has got attitude with a "read it and find out' approach on it. I get it that these coders make a game, they get loyal followers that they are used to kissing their buts and telling them how 'brilliant' their game is but this game isn't brilliant, isn't friendly, and expects people to know exactly where to look for guidance and that's not my idea of fun. Challenging is supposed to come "after" you know the rules....not on where to find the rules and what to read to know how the game works.. 'nuff said?

Stopped to playing it because of a very dumb decision of the developers: you can't switch off the version overlay on the top left screen. There is always shown a pure white letters the version of the game and the actual time. Great if you are a immersive player and even more great if you are a OLED user and risk a burnin, when you play some hours a day. The is not a single reason why the version number need to be shown all the time on your screen. Rigid screen elements are already difficult enough on an OLED, but a bold white fade-in at the top left in an otherwise often much darker game is extremely bad. I really wanted to give the game another chance after I bought it shortly after Early Access launched and hadn't played it in years. And in general, I don't think the game is that bad either, it has it's flaws but I had fan the last 9h, but my OLED monitor is more important to me than a game.

I think this game does do a lot of things right, and the freedom to explore as much as you can in this game can definitely not be understated. So... why the Not Recommended? This game is HELLA outdated. In a world where we have space games like Space Engineer, No Mans Sky, hell even Pulsar: Lost Colony, those games overall have much more polish than a game like this. The UI feels like it was made 15 years ago despite constant development since 2015. The performance stutters even with high-end hardware. The graphics look and feel pretty bad and clunky, the POIs make the 7 Days to Die POIs look like artistic masterpieces. It just doesn't feel good, and at the end of the day no matter the game, it should feel good.

I really want to recommend this game. I really do. This game has so much potential. Especialy the base and ship building part! But so many years after initial release (not in 2020), and the game's graphics are still poorly optimized. The NPCs are still super static. The story is still not well developed. I had a lot of fun with the game, but it is falling behind all others a lot.
