This is not worth time or money, wait for sale. Undead cool, Campaign bad around maybe 4th mission in everything is super slow, like for 80% of the missions. The story was alright, but is it worth the headache? No.

it started off okay, the undead faction was interesting but as it got closer to the end the problems regarding the undead faction really began to show itself.
The undead, like the Demons, require alot of time and upgrades to become actually good. Horde was good off the bat, and was still good even by the end. Fire Demons were absolute beasts fully upgraded, and with lust demons keeping them alive they were absolutely devastating as a unit combo.
The undead are unique in that they got a guy named Barthas. Who isn't all that great, making the undead fall off as a whole in terms of quality.
Oh don't get me wrong, late tier undead units are competent against Alliance troops, but then you get to the final part of the campaign where you are in a four way match against Alliance, Horde, and Demons in a king of the hill game. Everyone is already full of tier 3 units galore, while you need to take time and money to set up your base and get units ready to go. You need the (very slowly made) jars to unlock the necessary upgrades to make the undead viable against anyone, and your zombie units need adequate support in order to accomplish anything, especially when the demons send the prior mentioned tier 3 Fire Demon + Lust Demon combo after your base in the early game.
and then you have the other 2 send units at your throne room, again, using tier 3 troops almost right off the bat.
add onto the fact, that in order to have a substantial force, you need to alot of high quality units. More units means less worker drones. Less worker drones means less mining. Your main line of defence against assaults against your base is traps, which need to be constantly maintained by your drones...who, in my run, stopped mining completely in order to keep those up to speed. the end result was my entire army going on strike over not being paid (why do mindless undead need a paycheck? because fuck you thats why.) and not even defending my throne room when it was eventually swarmed. 60 unit cap just was not enough for what i needed, especially when i needed to defend both the Hill and my base at the same time.
While, mind you, everyone is on strike so ghosts stop producing mana. They already feel like the laziest faction, going on long breaks more often than the other too.
oh, and right before this is a huge difficulty spike of tanky worms spawning in your base and spawning a near endless stream of larvae, who have absolutely no right to explode with enough force to wipe your army. You pretty much need to jump on that worms head immediately if you dont want it to just wipe you out.
Basically, this campaign was alright, but it really fell off at the last 2 or 3 missions. The difficulty spike felt less like a challenge but more like flat out spite for almost beating the game, and with the worst playable faction as your only option, I was ready to give up on the final mission and uninstall. I played enough.

This DLC is the only DLC that brings a new campaign mode to enjoy. Filled with the humor you can expect from this game. The DLC defintely brings the difficulty to a new level. Which is a good thing in my opinion, the original campaign was way too easy. It feels like with this DLC they managed to find the right spot to create a bit of a challenge without making it so frustrating that you quit or just feel worn out after doing a mission.
The DLC is defintely worth it's price for any Dungeons fan.

The other reviews are right about the difficulty increase. In the base game you can dig with reckless abandon and if you dig into a creature lair the spiders or dragons would simply sit there and wait until you decide to attack.
Not anymore, like in dungeons 3, the creature lairs have a spawner that will periodically send pretty powerful attacks into your dungeon. So you will have to be more careful when digging, stripping one layer at a time until you run into the outer walls of a lair, or....you load a previous save, both work.
The enemies are also more powerful and there are now maps that force you into the overworld to prevent loss or to take down enemy bases so they stop flooding your dungeon. I had 3 alliance attacks inside my dungeon at once one time.
Fortunately traps are just as effective as in the base game, so spam the exits with trapped mazes and don't sleep on the rolling snowball, it'll send enemies right back to the start of your traps if aimed properly.
In the end if the base game was just right for you difficulty-wise, this expansion is probably a bit too frustrating. There's really not a lot of room for mistakes. And your early game has to be optimized and micromanaged.
It's not everyone's cup of tea, but if you can deal with the difficulty increase this is basically more of the same pretty great dungeons 2.

Warning: this one is HARD. it will make the main campain look easy from start to finish.
Warning: this one is FUN. it will make the main campain look a little more borring, after you play this one.
(but not the demon faction. i wish they had a longer campain.)

Just like all the other expansions in Dungeons 2 and 3 they take a wonderful game and turn it into a tower defense game where you have to rush to stay alive. The original games allow you time to enjoy customizing and building your dungeon while conquering at your own pace. Thumbs down for this piece of crap expansion.

If you can get this DLC at a sale for less than 10 bucks, get it.
+ New race is fun
+ ...which also comes with absolutely great description texts
+ Some new Campaign with its skirmish levels
For full price (currently 15€), however I think this is overpriced.
The race can be seen during the campaign, so some stuff (if not all?) was essentially already in there.
The new compaign levels are gone fast, too. As skirmish levels they are okayish, too, but I feel the Undead share the same "problem" as the Deamons: hard at the beginning, as the tank creature needs the forge-like room first. Afterwards pretty easy to beat the level, too.
TL;DR
Grab on sale for all Dungeon fans but think about it twice the rest of the time.

Very good DLC adding a new race and a campaign comparable to the base game in length. The difficulty is up, which seems to put some people off, but then one could argue the base game was too easy.
You have to plan your moves now. All units in the undead roster have a reason, and now you also have to use spells and timing. E.g. If you want your units to heal, you have to plague the enemy first and give it a few seconds to spread, then every kill heals your units. When dealing with mages you have to use your mana troops to teleport and stab them in the back to remove them, otherwise they'll do tons of damage. When dealing with the bosses you have to move your troops around to minimise area of effect damage. Etc.
Is it more complex? Yes. But I think that adds to fun and satisfaction when beating the game.
The story is fun and the humour like in the original. If you liked it, you won't be disappointed.
Thumbs up and hoping for Dungeons 3.

This DLC is TERRIBLY balanced. You will walk through the first 3 missions then the 4th is a nightmare. It's a classic "look up the tactics on goolgle then do that to win" rather than having fun playing your way. After that it's nice and easy up until the final mission, where again the balance is non-existent. Rather disappointing considering the base game was really good. Sure it wasn't hard, but they could have put a basic difficulty slider in for those massochists out there instead of having a couple of random nightmare levels thrown in to what may have otherwise been a decent jaunt.

Big new campaign thats just as good as the main one. Brand new Undead faction with some unique twists to it - hero unit and a powerful, easy to manage resurrection system. Same snarky narrator. If you enjoyed the base game, you'll for sure enjoy this!
With the improved performance that came with the free 1.5 patch I can now heartily recommend this game and its expansion "A Game of Winter"!
