I followed Seth's suggestion, tried to install ASIO4ALL and now SONAR starts and works no more crashes.
I apologize for my impatience and inappropriate words in previous review.

I bought Pro and upgraded to Platinum. It was a srtruggle but as I am new to this and over 50 I thought it might be. What really helped me to understand it all was Seth's various explanations and feedback to those with queries. Anyway my DAW is stable, it works fine with all plugins, the sound is phenominal and even I can work with it.

I started using CW products since MC6. So this upgrade was a huge bonus for me. I've used this for professional work alongside Kontakt 4 and I'm happy that its shortcuts are easy to use and having multiple screen views for different purpsoes work nicely.
Great for me as I was looking for a good easy to use Windows alternative DAW.

As someone who has used cakewalk's products from the infancy of the company, I cannot reccomend this product enough.
It is a premium Digital Audio Workstation, that has all the features you would expect from a professional grade product. The learning curve for this software is mid / high, and it helps to watch youtube videos or post on forums asking questions if you are new to the digital audio world. The fact that you can get this at the price-point that it is sold for, is also a bargain, and you receive discounts when you buy upgrades to the next tier of the cakewalk product line. For Beginners, I will say this.
If you are serious about audio production, and you need a piece of software that is easy to use, yet powerful enough to compete with the big boys, you can only go right here.

Oh, Cakewalk, how you have fallen. Confusing, and just stops working at times. Crashes unpredictably. Basically I use it for MIDI, which then gets exported to another, far more intuitive and easy to work with program that doesn't have MIDI capabilities, and not much else. Not supported by the company, which I think at this point may not even exist. Buy Reaper instead.

I compose Soundtracks for games, started with Cakewalk 8.1 and moved on to Sonar X3 all the way through and never feel any inconvenience for all these years. I can safely say that Sonar is one of the most convenient and elegant DAW on PC which includes extremely useful tools and effects. I definitely recommend to anyone who is either adept or inept.

This program is amazing, but there is a more modern version that is entirely free; Cakewalk was purchased by Bandlab some time ago. Look up 'Cakewalk by Bandlab' it's this very same software, entirely free, no restrictions.

This DAW is now completely FREE for download, without the DLCs. Now it's called Cakewalk by BandLab...
So I paid and shortly after its free... great.
There are a lot of fre VSTs you don't need the DLCs to begin with music production.

Software that i sno longer developed or supported still being offered for sale. DO NOT BUY.
Steam refused my refund as I have exceeded the maximum of 2 hours "playtime" - this is not a game FFS it is a product sold on the basis of continual updates, features bug fixes and support, none of which will be available now.
I fail to see how my FIFTEEN hours of PLAYTIME amounts to a significant benefit of the software - for a game, I get it, 15 hours could be enough to complete. But an application like this 15 hours (most of which I am pretty sure where on the demo) barely scratches the surface. And yet Steam STILL are offering this for sale nearly a week after the announcement was made. How is that right? It is still being advertised on Steam with "2018" season pass...to what exactly?
As above I get these things happen but even after the official notice the product is on sale with benefits that can no longer apply as advertised. Disgusting.
So Steam, thanks for effing nothing. Don't be surprised that my account will now have no future purchase of anything.

Why I'd like to work with sonar against cubase or nuendo...
There is some simple reasons that I can see as a sound recorder.
You can record lines in one line, on each other without any problem, but in others you need 2or3lines that you can record and have a line without problem.
You can insert fx's on a line and another split sounds in the line and you can easily copy fx's to wherever you want without reset.
Everything is pro in sonar \m/
