This game centers around a young lass who yearns to get away from her ho-hum existance... and gets her wish when she must go on a journey to discover the truth about the dark things swirling around her. Gameplay is decent, characters are interesting, and the plot is engaging. On top of that, there seem to be a lot of joking, and even fourth-wall breaking... Would recommend.

Nice jrpg game. I didnt like lv cap at 30. Also small bugs, one that iritated me was at end of the game, in Dracula castle, I could not enter code behide hanging skeletor. Code was found in a safe at castle. All in all, nice little game.

It's fun at first but then the weapons and new skills become few and far between and you have to hunt for crystals that have skills for individual players. This probably starts around the time you hit the prison part then into the snowy lands. If you don't explore every single place, you won't find them and that character must be in the party when you do find a crystal for them. In the meantime, your enemies respawn time and time again and constantly run toward and attack you. The way the enemies crowd and attack you with no way to escape is ridiculous and so very not fun because your players are so underpowered and enemies overpowered. It takes forever to beat a regular enemy and waaaaay too long to beat a boss. On the plus side, the characters are often funny in their bickering. Kudos for the clever writing.

This had an interesting premise, but lacks in map development, enough guidance for hints to figure out the next location of quests, and very unfriendly battle system. Some bosses are incredibly hard and make you wonder if there is a glitch. And in fact, I was unable to progress the game because I would kill Dracula first and the demon lives forever. And Dracula, without the sprite, is still able to attack my characters. When the battle goes on for 15 minutes with no hints of ending in an RPGmaker game, it counts as a glitch in my book. In fact there are a lot of glitches in this game, which I avoided a few by reloading save files, but I was unable to finish the game because of the final boss. Hope your next game is better.
SPOILERS AHEAD DONT READ IT.
This is my review on this game! If you haven't play this game, don't read it. If you insist you want to read it, go ahead. I thought this game would be pretty nice since I received a coupon for purchasing this game which costs a dollar. However..Since I learned basic things in using RPG Maker, when I first played this game, the first thought was "What were they thinking?" I found so many errors/bugs in this game and sometimes there are parts that made me bored. Some parts are okay I guess. I only bought this game so that I can experience how games are created such as storyline, plot, art, ect. -I really like finding things but finding Kronas(I think?) is ridiculous... In many maps, I literally spent hours searching for them, only to find VERY small amount of money. I can see why the devs added an achievement for playing more than 4-14 hours (jesus christ..). -PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE (I'm begging you.) Look around the maps. Find hiding spots. You'd find something that can be VERY useful. If you're the player that doesn't care about finding stuff, this game's not for you then. -Also, in the scene where I helped Jack (pumpkin) gather supplies to become scarecrow again. For some reason, I have 10 Jack's keys??? -Many side quests are.. I don't know. If you're good at searching easily, you'd probably talk to people and they'd thank you even though you have NO idea what they asked you. They'd take the items off your hands xD It's very confusing lol (I like to go ahead, finding things before talking to people.). -Honestly I don't know how this game got in Steam but the devs should have put it to BETA. Too many bugs. They need to fix their tilesets for example the cliffs part, it'll look like Sidni is above the edge of the cliff. Also, I somewhat feel disappointed? The trees that are in different colors are unaturally blended in with other trees for example: you see a orange tree but the rest of the trees are green. -Wanna know what took a lot of my time? Long dialogues seriously. There were scenes that I had to skip because I only want prizes lol.. There were repetitive of Sidni, telling the story of a burning house to couple people she met throughout the game. Like I GET IT. Seriously tho, keep it simple. -Now for battles, several battles are mostly 2-4 minutes long and it's annoying because the enemies are stronger and more challenging to fight them. Failures happen. It took me 3 tries to defeat the Vampires. 4 tries beating "Sidni's father". And I'm still stuck on the Blood Poet... He killed me right off because he used Soul Rend as immediate execution.... The boss battles are ridiculous and tough. The devs should tweek from increasing the chance to get MISS during battle. -I actually was so puzzled and weirded out by everyone's names especially the towns. I actually thought someone made typos or was inspired by the names xD.. -Oh for the love of God...
This makes me mad EVERYTIME.
The SE (sound effects) are cool BUT they're not synced with ending the message. Such as.. "Sidni learned (MOVE NAME)!" *SE starts...* *box closes* *SE still going for a few seconds* The devs should time the length of the SE to the closing of the message box. -The price of this game ($9.99) for those who are planning to buy it, DON'T buy it. Feel free to buy it if you're into crafting a badge.. They'll give you a coupon (I believe so?) of any game. If you still plan to get it, feel free to do so. One thing I like? Their best music honestly. Everything else, they really need to start working on fixing this game. UPDATED 4/16/2017 So I actually finished the game BUT I actually have a lot to say. - Level 30 is the maximum level you can achieve. Can't be stronger than the enemies :/ - In Dracula's Castle, the area where you escaped from the dungeon, the enemies are far harder even if you're level 30. If I remembered correctly, there were 10 enemies in the battle??? It's insane. I knew I'd die easily. - Too. Many. Enemies. To. Fight. It gets hard to avoid getting into battles. It's a pain in the neck honestly. I'm not gonna spend 8 minutes defeating them >.> - I have to kind of start over the game to get two more achievements :( - I suggest you SAVE the candies that make your ATK increase. Only use them in boss stage
Dracula+Darkness, Blood Poet, Sidni's Father, 3 Bosses (in Organ puzzle)
- If you have a lot of free time, I suggest playing this game for more than 20+ hours. Your choice.... I've been trying to beat this game non-stop.......(minus sleep and food) - Too much 4th wall? - If only there's free source guide unlike this one..... (Luckily I did find good info from several sites..) I hope this review makes you understand who I didn't recommend this game.

This RPG Maker game is not for everyone, but I love it very much and spent almost 70 hours playing it. I happen to be an old school gamer who enjoyed RPG Maker games, and this is just my cup of tea. I actually started playing this game two years ago, and had a great time finishing it. The storyline was interesting, and involves fantasy creatures including werewolves and vampires. I also did not find any major or gamebreaking bug in the game. However, my only problem 2 years ago was that I was unable to get all the steam achievement even though I finished the game and even bought the game guide!! Several of the steam achievements for this game is really hard, because they involved killing 4 "gods" in 4 very obscure and hidden temples located all over the gameworld. At that time, I was unable to find these hidden locations on steam forums or even in the guidebook. Now 2 years later, I decide to play the game from scratch again. I had a wonderful time. Furthermore, by this time 2 of my friends on steam have already finished this game and found the secret hidden locations, so I was able to get help. Replaying the game after 2 years is really fun too. I enjoyed this game very much and am looking forward to playing Midnight Blessings 2 which has been recently released on steam. Recommended!!

Uggghhhh. I had a pretty hard time deciding whether to recommend this game or not, but in the end, I decided not to recommend it. I really wish there was an "on the fence" review. Before I critique the game, I would like the developers to know that I absolutely loved the characters and the story. A good story with lovable characters is THE MOST IMPORTANT part of an RPG for me. Sidni is absolutely adorable and I love games with a female protagonist. That said, here is why I don't recommend the game: -There are way too many glitches. Sometimes, the game will freeze if you are using the keyboard rather than the mouse. It is a quick enough fix to exit out and restart the game using the mouse, but ain't nobody got time for that. -The battles are redundant, especially in Dracula's castle. The fighting isn't particularly challenging, so it gets boring easily. Also, the characters only gain skills if they find crystals and not by leveling up, so you end up using the same combos over and over. -Those Griffins, though. They last forever. -You can only level up to 30? Again, it makes all the monsters in Dracula's castle an annoyance rather than a necessary part of the ending. -The ending. It just kind of ends abruptly. I know that there is a part two, but I should end the game wanting more. Anyway, like I said in the beginning, I did love the story and spent many hours enjoying this game. However, if you are new to SNES era RPGS, I would recommend the Aveyond 3 series. It is like this game, but much better quality.

I can see there are mixed reviews and the negatives usually gripe about the battles. That leveling takes too long or there are places where you're forced into too many battles. Well, I didn't find leveling difficult at all and, yes, there are a tad too many forced battles for my taste but you can SEE the enemies so you can often avoid them, if you're careful. It's only near the end of the game where monsters speed up and rush you. So the end battles might be a bit tedious and the level cap is 30 so, if you reach that before the end, the last battles will seem pointless. However, the story is the true gem of this game. There's a lot of dialog/cutscenes and each one draws you further into the plot. It's a dark story but also full of humor. I found a lot of the humor silly but occasionally it made me laugh REALLY hard. And because the story is so interesting, I don't care about the multiple battle at the end (where I am now) - I want to know what happens! I think one of the reviews might say that the ending was slightly unsatisfying? I believe that's because the story continues in game 2 and I shall most certainly play that next. But no matter how it ends, this journey has been great. It reminds me of why I fell in love with RPGs all those years ago. If you're a turn-based RPG fan, this should definitely be in your library. Though - since battle IS a big part of the game, I have a couple comments. Leveling isn't as satisfying as normal because you only gain HP and "MP" each time you level. Skills are only gained by finding special crystals throughout the game and attack, defense, and the like only rise with better equipment or limited edibles that permanently raise one stat for one character. On the bright side, most monsters drop items so, if you devote a bit of time to killing things, you'll have a very nice stock in your inventory. Ahhh - also, most of the achievements you can get just by playing the game but five are tied to secret bosses which even the strategy guide DLC doesn't list. However, one person on the discussion board lists where to find all five! Yay for helpful Steam people. :D And now it's time to go to bed because, once again, I've stayed up way too late playing this. I'll try to beat the last dungeon and final boss tomorrow - with a big cup of coffee. Addition: If you're max level in the last dungeon and you want to skip excess battles, you CAN use the escape option and, with rare exceptions, you can bypass most fights.

This is a tough one to review. It definitely has some good qualifications and it has some amazing POTENTIAL. But there are some pretty big negatives that make it very hard to recommend it to someone else. Let's starts withe positives.... Pros: 1. The money or "Krona" is pretty easy to come by. Once you get the shovel there are tons of places you can dig and get free money from it. The weapons and armor are all relatively cheap so far so you don't usually have any issues with being able to afford the next level of gear. 2. Almost every monster fight drops small "health potions" or "sassy rolls" as they are called in this game. So you really don't have to ever buy many of those leaving more money for weapons and armor. 3. The storyline is really good. It's interesting with interesting characters. To be honest the story line is one of the only reason I am still playing the game at this point in. 4. I like the controls. It feels much like the Aveyond games which I happen to love very much. 5. Visable monsters....I hate when you can't see them and never know when you are going to get attacked. Now let's get to those Cons: 1. There are monsters literally EVERYWHERE! One of the things I hate about the games that don't have visable monsters is that you get attacked every 3 steps....well the monsters might be visable in this game but you still get attacked every 3 freakin steps. You CAN'T avoid them. They all make a very fast beeline straight for you and there is no going around them. Lord help you if you get lost and go to a different board and have to come back because ALL OF THE MONSTERS YOU JUST KILLED ARE NOW BACK!!! I would be ok with the 6,000 monsters (maybe) if they didn't come BACK everytime you leave and reneter the area. It's never ending, endless battles, one after another....over and over again. There is just too much endless fighting. 2. Now I would almost be ok with the endless fighting (but not really) IF it was leveling my characters up and making them stronger BUT IT'S NOT! It is absolutely insane how long it takes you to get a single level in this game! I have been playing for 8 hours....and much of that is fighting monsters and my highest character is a level 15! That is UNREAL! 3. The areas are like a MAZE! it's back and forth and back and forth through endless monsters and I haven't found a single map of any of the areas on google or anything. yes, I could pay for the strategy guide but I hate to pay 5 bucks for a guide to a game that I may not even finish. The guide is not available for free anywhere that I could find. 4. There isn't an "easy, medium or hard" mode and the fights are super hard. Especially during the times that you only have 1 or 2 people in your party. The boss fights are unrealistically difficult! The 2nd (I believe) fight is with 7 vampires at one time against 2 of your party and it took me 5 tries to figure out how to beat them. So for now, I will stick with it maybe a couple more hours but if it doesnt get any better then I won't be finishing it. Which is a darn shame because overall the game has a ton of potential and I REALLY want to like it.....
