Despite the bugs from when it released, this game has gotten much better, I like this game and its awesome with multiplayer. All in all, get it if you really want to play multiplayer, new challenges, and the achievements. I'd give it a 8/10 on the Fun and Gameplay!

This game is almost the same as the game of the year version, just with a little more content. The thing is that the game had a lot of potential for bringing the PVZ franchise back, but the decisions that were taken for it weren't the best ones. Bringing back Rich Werner, Laura Shigihara, or even George Fan to help with this "remaster" would have been the best decision to have taken; maybe we would have even gotten more content. Unfortunately, this didn't happen, and we just got a PVZ with a visual improvement. I recommend you get this game when it's on sale, and if you don't own the GOTY version, it is only worth it for the nostalgia and for the versus mode (which you can do with the Steam "Remote Play Together" option so you can play it with anyone anywhere in the world online).

This game is a buggy mess already 10 minutes in...
- Bought the game
- Booted it up
- Was immediately hit by the first bug being the main menu "Click to start" button doesn't even register being clicked...
- Spammed it 100 times and somehow got it to register
- Repeat again with the license and agreement buttons
- Got to the main menu where i could pick game modes and such, and still nothing works properly without having to spam my mouse for a minute straight
This remake has been out for too long for this kind of bug.
(p.s. i've tried with 2 mouses and an xbox controller, and still get the same results after rebooting each time)

For the record: I'm only playing this because I wanted to try the new modes. EA can go straight to hell for how they treated their employees.
Also, the versus in this game is hilariously unbalanced

Overall a disappointing remaster. They did not make full utilization of existing features from other PvZ ports, such as achievements, gamemodes, etc. leaving the full game to feel incomplete.
There are a number of frustrating bugs and performance issues that do not exist in the original version of the game. If you can live without the quality of life improvements (upscaled art, fast-forward button on levels, and some added gamemodes) then I would recommend just playing the GOTY version for a fifth of the price.
If you like PvZ, you will like it. But unless you are extremely eager for new content, it’s not really worth it.

I have never left a review on a game in my life. Had to on this one though. Just spent several hours trying to figure out why it doesn't let you click "start now" just to find out its a known bug....
After doing everything i could think of to fix the issue i finally got in... the joke was on me because the game doesn't register my mouse buttons correctly. I have the game of the year edition as well....so for $20 bucks....yea...waste of money. Especially after buying it for me and my 8 year old son to play vs online....its not online fyi....shared screen.
WHAT A JOKE

Since getting the last achievement I think it is the best time to review this game.
What I like:
- that new modes were added including Survival Endless Day, Night, Fog, and Roof. This also includes the limbo page mini games, RIP Mode, Vs mode and Coop mode. I like that these can easily be accessed in the game without relying on third party apps
- multiplayer including local and Steam remote play
- controller support including the Steam Deck
- higher resolution graphics
- widescreen support
- hardcore (RIP) Mode
- speed up button
- glitches from original game are removed such as the infinite money trophy glitch
- the Peashooter Christmas skin, he looks so cute!
- the updates which make the game playable compared to its original state which was full of glitches such as being stuck in the Zen Garden when it unlocks and the retro zombie that could teleport to the house.
What I don't like
- unbalanced game play in Vs Mode since the zombies get too much sun compared to the Xbox edition of the game
- the Sunshroom when fully grown in the Zen Garden is its small form rather than its fully grown size like in all other previous PvZ games which contain Zen Garden mode
- using AI upscaling instead of the original artists to make all the sprites HD
- lack of new mini games or not including all the mini games from all versions of PvZ where possible to make it the definitive edition
- lack of challenge based multiplayer where players get matched to random opponents but I understand that maintaining a server for that is probably not viable due to cost
- fake concept art rather than including concept art by the original artist, as an artist myself I find this disappointing
- the Zen Garden plant drop RNG is terrible, it may just be bad luck on my end but it took so much longer to unlock all the Zen Garden plants, I had to take a break from this game for a while because I got bored, and this is hard to happen for me as a PvZ fan
- lack of more costumes for the other plants and zombies
- no HD Zombatar with more custom options than the GOTY edition
- lack of more in depth behind the scenes content such as videos
- no HD music video at the end of the game, instead putting the original video in a monitor
- general lack of artists or designers with a passion for the franchise, I got the feeling that this game was rushed and not cared about as much as it could have been
Would I recommend this game?
Only if you want to try the new modes and play the multiplayer modes with friends. As someone who has played most versions of PvZ, I would rank the Xbox 360 version the highest out of all of them. I would also recommend PvZ Replanted for Switch users since it is the only way to get PvZ on there. I hope that this game helps new people get into the game since they may not have played the previous games so cannot compare them. I love this franchise and really want it to succeed. I am still hoping for a PvZ movie given how many video game related movies that have been released lately.

Okay listen, I don't hate this remake. There's a lot of QOL stuff that's nice to have, like Speed-Up and new minigames and stuff... but like... PVZ GOTY Edition exists and is much cheaper. Play mods if you want new content. If not for the achievements, wanting to check out the new content, and MAYBE the Co-Op/PVP mode... I don't see why anyone would buy this. It's just a buggy amalgamation of all the various ports.
5/10, definitely could've been so much better.
