I played - and reviewed - the free base game The Gallery (with its two galleries A & B, each of 8 puzzles) in 2025, but I only recently discovered and purchased (for a sale price of UK £1.01) this DLC which adds a third gallery C (of 10 puzzles). This follows the same game play: each puzzle is set in a 3D photo-realistic room of paintings, and solving it opens the door to the next room. A rhyme outlining the nature of the puzzle is displayed above the exit door after a few seconds of looking around the room.
Puzzles may involve counting or indicating the paintings which meet specified criteria, finding a number hidden in one of the paintings, or using information found outside of the game (in this last case the paintings just illustrate the associated theme). The puzzle answer(s) are entered into a keypad or numeric/colour wheels by the exit door, or on switches or colour displays by each painting. There is also a continuation of the main game's side-quest to find a collectible item in every puzzle room. There are achievements for completing the gallery C and for finding the additional 10 collectibles (note that the original 16 items must also have been found to give a total of 26; I didn't have a save file from the base game so I replayed galleries A & B, and then the new gallery C).
My play time for replaying galleries A & B, and then the DLC Gallery C was 2.5 hours, with about 1.5 hours relating to Gallery C. Most of the new puzzles were straight-forward, but at least half of the 1.5 hours was spent on a single puzzle
(finding a number hidden in one painting)
, which I finally solved purely by luck rather than methodical searching. I am happy with the DLC's value for money given its discounted price and the time I spent playing it.
Finally, I know that there are strong feelings against the use of AI-generated art in games like this one, but I don't feel competent to judge; I can only say that I would happily pay a bit more to support bespoke non-AI artwork, but I would be sad if games like this were unable to be made without it.
