In the first five minutes of this game, I managed to get my J/O permit!! The word was the f slur. Happy pride ! Edit: Steam keeps telling me to update my review because I made this one after 30 minutes of playing. I want to say for the record that as of 2 days after this game's release I have amassed 25 hours of playtime. It's so ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ good.

this game really is the epiphany of "i absorb the pronouns of everyone i defeat in combat. my hair is bluer than you could ever imagine. my pronouns are he (x81)/ she (x74)/ they (x43) / any (x12). soon your pronouns will be none/none"

It's good! Okay so you probably have an okay sense of what's going on in general from the screenshots and trailer: word puzzles, various chaotic mechanics and gimmicks, spell slots that change what you have to work with, Weird character gimmicks that flip the whole concept on its head, etc. etc. This game is straightforward (low skill floor; you click the tiles and spell words and try to not die) but complex (so far as I can tell in three runs, probably a quite-high skill ceiling; mechanics that offer huge combinatorial explosions of possibilities, tricky resource tradeoffs). It does the Balatro/STS stake/ascension thing, which I have not taken anywhere near the top on day 1, so I cannot tell you how high the skill ceiling goes. What I can tell you is that I immediately datamined out the game's wordlist and slapped together a basic searcher (including a few of the fancy tile variant features), and... having this tool does not really break the game, even on the base difficulty. And using it is probably antithetical to playing fast. And the game will tell you exactly how long you're deliberating (which you're mostly free to ignore). Could you probably hypothetically optimize all the fun out of the game completely? Yeah, I guess, maybe? But you probably won't. The number of options that you have in any given moment is very very very different from what you've got in the likes of StS or Balatro; this game cares about the meta resource management a bit less and pushes you to make good decisions in individual encounters more. Problems: the opaque wordlist puts you into some unfortunate binds. It's easy to get into a situation where you'd have to irreversibly spend a resource to find out whether or not a certain word is even in the wordlist. This is why I made my searcher. (update: the devs have added several of these words I noted were missing!) No "thembo," "domme," "ghoster," "wounder," and it's missing a few of my favorite slurs too. But hey it had "girlcock," so, y'know. Don't make us irreversibly spend resources to find out if it's on the list! We'll run off and immediately try to automate away the fun!

Fun game except for the fact it would't let me play "morbing" as a word. #1 morbius fan in shambles right now

05/06/2026 UPDATE: THEY ADDED PAWJOBS TO PRONOUN PALACE!!! GOTY 2026!!!! THANK YOU DEVS!!! 04/06/2026: My run was going really well until the game refused to accept "pawjobs" as a real word. I need to contact the Cambridge Dictionary people about this glaring oversight immediately. But besides that yeah great game I love spelling.

You know, there's a tendency for a lot of "Queer media" to be overly sappy and subdued in tone, so this game riding the fine line between edgy and sweet has been very refreshing to experience. The enemy design is really well done, I appreciate how each enemy has a different mechanic that constantly forces you to adapt to whatever is affecting your tiles. Really well done artwork and sound effects too, like a huge number of of the enemies are inspired by porpentine's work in name, design or both and I ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ love that. It would have been easy to make each playable character basically the same as lexicographer except with a very minor gameplay quirks, but each one completely changes the way you approach every single turn you take. Lexy is simple and fun. The Fisher is slow and methodical and I like how she becomes butch. The Addict is frantic and makes me wonder if I have some kind of minor dislexia because i just can not keep up with the timer. Jubilist. My favorite has to be the Irreversible Damage Child, though. I love spelling "GAMP_HOMOS" to block living hostile architecture from erecting anti-homeless spikes in my direction. This game really is something special. The only criticism I have is that it was a letdown when I found out you don't unlock other changes to the characters past the first clearance. Hashtag make the fisher unlock it/she pronouns on red clearance.

Too woke The only way I would improve this game is if every difficulty you beat with a character brought a character further along in their transition. I want to watch my protag grow tits or facial hair with every success I have with them.
