I love this game, the gameplay is just perfect of what I want from game like this. You clean ships, u sell ♥♥♥♥♥ and you upgrade skills. The 1st triple S gaming experience. I am sad I have to stop playing this so I can actually see what it has to offer in the future and see the whole thing...

There is no AI here, quit being a knee-jerking ♥♥♥♥. The core loop of the game is pretty good for one of these "mundane job sims". I love the feel of the game, it's creepy and every so often you get a soft jump scare. That may be my sole issue, when one happens, you're not always sure WHY you are losing sanity, you got the noise, the screen went weird, but I didn't SEE anything. I think stuff like this really should trigger like the Enderman in Minecraft. You have to LOOK at it to get the trigger. Outside of that, the game goes as fast or slow as you want. My first play did not take very long, but I missed a LOT. My second, I took my time and am thoroughly enjoying my time. I am not going to ding them for the following, it's on me. Before the Underwater update, I could play for hours on end. Since that update, as a thalassophobe , it's PAINFUL to go underwater in this world. I have hardly ever been able to push through and this feels like a brick wall. It's dark, it's spooky, and it all adds up to me being unable to play what was easily one of my favorite games of this type. Not their fault, I bought a ship cleaning horror game. But a quick note to anyone else who suffers: This game is rough when it comes to water. Fishing and walking the skinny docks was bad enough, but now you have to get in it to scrape clams and starfish. 8/10 game, unless water bothers you.

This game is so fun! Really love it and excited for chapter 5! Unbelievable price for the amount of content available right now. Super cozy and a little creepy/spooky. Definitely fun to lose a couple hours to now and again.

i cant really get my bearings, the game seems disjointed , i had a fight with the controls just for the settings but i was playing on a steamdeck (with no extra stuff plugged in). anyway i didnt get any of it from the start so i have had to come & look here & elsewhere to try & understand what this game is exactly. i have no idea what the start of the game is ? no clue where i am or who that is that im talking to? no clue where im going or what they are talking about & no clue when it put me in a new screen & mentioned something about the tool wheel? i dont know what the boxes are or what to do with them, i dont know what trash looks like or doesnt look like & i dont know what any of the icons on that tool wheel are or what they do , i equipped different things & well nothing happened . im not keen on games that make absolutely no sense

Too much bug to recommand this game ATM (update 7.0), not even a minute in I had an overlapping text in the option menu, lauching the game and same problem with UI overlapping, taking my first contract I stopped cause the game does not register the things I aim at properly so I couldn't even wash the floor of a dinghy, not mentionning the clams levitating on it.... Could be fun but all those bugs make it infuriating to play, please fix this before adding any content for the love of the depth gods.

Sunken Engine operates in this delightful space between a job simulator and a horror game. Your main job is to operate a shipyard, cleaning and repairing ships for cash and experience/skill points. You then spend that cash and skill points to expand the range and difficulty of servicing operations you can perform, the quality of the tools you use, and the materials required to fully mend every vessel you can. Some of the things you collect, namely shells and starfish, can be sold at your market, along with any fish you catch from fishing. Over time, the economy starts to grow as wealthier customers offer greater gain, and larger or more urgent jobs offer even more. Underpinning this already satisfying gameplay loop, is a sinister Lovecraftian tale of horror, betrayal, and meddling with unknown powers. Figures begin appearing out of the corner of your eyes. Glowing red eyes stare at you from the tops of buildings. Your heart beats faster and your skin begins to crawl. Strangers knock on your door, hinting at mysteries beyond the veil. Strange fish begin appearing on your hook. By this point, you're already in too deep. They have found you. They are watching you. As an Early Access title, I reserve final judgement for the full release, but so far there is a lot to discuss about this game (SPOILERS AHEAD). For an indie title, this game shows a lot of completion. There's plenty to do, plenty to work towards, and most progress feels satisfying. The horror feels well-integrated, and when things really start to get creepy, they deliver. During the day, parts of the town are open to explore, while at night, things begin to change. Occasionally, the circus comes to town, offering yet another unsettling venue and gameplay loop. Some nights you'll even be visited by haunted ships that hide dark secrets. The art is very pleasant, albeit overly cartoonish at times. I found myself gripped by this game, losing large blocks of time making progress towards the current end of build. I have enjoyed the time spent, and I believe a wide array of people would enjoy this game. I can tell that there is a tremendous amount of inspiration from Dredge, but it feels more of an homage in the service of familiarizing players, rather than outright theft, and comparing the two is a tad reductive. Naturally, however, I have some complaints. As I mentioned before, there is an overly cartoonish quality at times, that detracts from the general feel. The NPCs are all 2D drawings with lots of detail, but the shadow figures are 3D and very geometric. Those two clash at times and detract a little from the horror element. I also feel like the horror part is a little too forgiving? While I appreciate the ability to regain sanity easily, and that true horror comes from the unexpected and random, I feel like some of the sanity-breaking events and creature interactions were minor or infrequent enough to not really count sanity as a well-managed resource. This is most prominent when you get to the ghost liner. It is marketed as a horror venue where you're stalked by an unseen monster - wherein I never encountered a single scare. I'm not sure if it was because I managed sanity well with the pipe, or if I was never able to spend a LONG enough time on the ship because the Blue Prince-style room generation locked me out constantly. I also struggled with the material economy at times, because repairing deckboards never seemed to cost the same twice. I would run out of either wood or nails randomly, despite having purchased amounts I would've imagined were satisfactory. Lastly, I struggled with the haunted ships that come in certain nights. Supposedly, there are 4 types of artefact to be obtained from them, although I only ever got the same 3 over and over again. Maybe it's not integrated yet, but my completionist mind says - if you're going to show it's possible, it better be possible. Overall I think this is a really impressive title, worthy of the time and money I have invested so far. I am extremely eager for the next installment. I encourage anyone who has read this far to give it a try!

It has been a year and the stuttering issue while turning and moving is still not fixed, they addressed this in the forum but ignored to fix it for a year now. I am liking the game but the game is making me nauseous after prolonged playtime because of this issue. Maybe by leaving a negative review, they will finally address this issue, they are probably fixing issues based on reviews and not the forums. Hopefully I can also change this review within the year and not ignore it once they actually fix it.

Lots of bugs... I've been playing this game since December of last year, and the premise is good, pretty solid...but the last update is terrible. I don't understand how fishing works anymore, the eyes on the floor no longer disappear with the Necronomicon, and many sound effects seem to be missing. The game feels much worse than before, and I honestly don't enjoy playing it anymore.
