[h1] Age of Mythology EX: Tale of the Dragon[/h1] [h3]Disappointing and Unpolished Expansion[/h3] [h3]Not even worth getting in a bundle![/h3] The Tale of the Dragon is the only expansion released for Age of Mythology, and it was a terrible failure due to its poor execution and performance. This expansion introduced the Chinese civilization, along with new units, gods, myth creatures from Chinese folklore and a new campaign that turned out to have many technical issues, bugs and a very poor design. The campaign is completely forgettable and it has a mediocre and rushed story with a short cast of heroes that lacks personality and charisma. Also, the cutscenes are honestly messed up with many unpolished textures and models. Some of them are not even skippable, and if you fail a mission, you have to repeat them over and over again. On the other hand, the levels are incredibly unbalanced and boring, with simple objectives that become nearly impossible due to the limited resources each scenario provides with a very thin margin for error on higher difficulties. There are many missions that have progression issues where the game doesn’t properly trigger objectives or the events that come afterward. The second level feels like a poorly designed tutorial that only reveals how bad the rest of the campaign will be. On the other hand, the Chinese civilization suffered from many balance problems with units and mechanics that initially felt poorly integrated. The Chinese army is the worst in the game due to its low stats and the lack of early units to effectively counter archers and myth units. Also, many of these units have such simple design concepts, like the white tiger or the war salamander that it’s hard to even consider them as real myth units. Lastly, the maps added by this expansion for skirmish mode are quite decent, featuring new environments and game conditions.
