Classic Pierre Vandermaesen quality of game production. For a very small price, Orb Tower is extremely hooking easily for hours. Comes with enough challenge and nice diversity with each Wizard to play with.
Final score: 10/10
Do you remember Bust a Move? Started on the ol' SNES? A puzzle game about popping bubbles with the same 3+ bubbles with different power-ups that either made the level easier or harder depending on what is going on? Keep that in mind as I talk about Orb Tower because it does a lot of things right and there are some things I wish it would do differently that might happen if there's a sequel. Anyway, there's no real plot to Orb Tower. You control a wizard who's trying to get to the top of the tower to defeat the evil demon king. Why? I don't know. My guess is glory. But I digress. The big pull is the gameplay. Like the aforementioned Bust-a-move, you have your cannon loaded with an orb that moves back and forth the bottom of the screen. You aim with the mouse and if you can clear it efficiently, you get extra coins due to extra moves leftover. Then you take that gold to buy power ups so you can ascend higher, each with their own pros and cons. Except bombs. Bombs are way too over-powered, especially when combined with gunpowder or 2 as they can clear an area to make room or blast away a group of bubbles --orbs! Then the different "schools" of magic change the regular game play up: blood magic has you sacrifice your health to buy things but coins recover health, teleportation magic moves and stops the cannon somewhere on the bottom of the screen somewhere before each shot, and another has you pop so many orbs to get an extra shot. Every 5 floors or so there's a "boss battle" in which the orbs need to be cleared while navigating different challenges: orbs move around randomly, some turn to stone, a paddle floats back and forth above the cannon, bubbles changing into poison types or spikes randomly appearing. I forgot to mention the spikes: if an orb hits one, it'll cause damage to the wizard. Once he hits 0 HP, it's game over. I really like how fast the game is: an average run won't last more than 10-15 minutes on normal. I like the different ways to play, though certain items will always be priority (bomb, sandwich, and needle respectively). I'm neutral on the orb randomization. It makes things interesting, it doesn't help when the same bubble--orb-- keeps coming up and the desired orb can't be reached to move forward. Weirdly, I miss the physics of Bust-a-move. That is something I wish would be added as it could lead to some interesting game play strategies. Orb Tower is a solid puzzle game. It's a great quick fix for puzzler, especially when you just want to play for a few minutes. It's super affordable. There's a decent amount of content. Plus, I've talked to the developer on Twitter in general and he seems like a nice guy. Orb Tower is definitely worth your time.

It's quite good. A familiar/classic experience with Roguelike elements for seasoning, nice music and pleasant visuals. All for a very fair price.

There's not much to say about Orb Tower other than it's a really fun and chill little match 3 bubble popper puzzle shooter! Fun visuals, funky music, addictive gameplay and a ton of charm with a light touch of rogue-ishness. Ran into a couple of bugs like having my next shot not load or firing a weird invisible projectile with strange properties, but resetting the game and loading in your current run solves any problems you might run into. I enjoyed it that much I decided to go for all the achievements. I don't regret picking this up one bit, especially for the super cheap price it goes for!

Orb Tower is quite a surprisingly fun bubble puzzle shooter. Clear the levels with a select amount of balls and collect coins to buy items in the shop you enter between levels. Short runs of 15 to 20 levels. 8 different mages to start your run with each playable in 3 difficulties.
