I've written so many fanfics and short stories with this so I highly recommend this piece of software. It really helps you keep thing organize for your stories.

Word doc has more features than this. There is like 3 fonts to choose from and lacks features that most writers would expect. Wouldn't recommend.

When I first tried Nimble Writer, I loved it. I didn't know of anything else like it, and it's still probably the most affordable software of its type. That said, I can't recommend it anymore. It breaks during things like modifying themes. I can't switch fonts - or search for a font - without the program completely crashing. I've also lost large files somehow, and, while I'm sure this is my fault, the encryption process is too complicated and easy to F* up (as I did). Now, when I try to open a large document that I saved on the Steam Cloud, it says it's encrypted and I can't touch it or view it. I think I last opened it on a laptop I haven't used in a long time, and I could probably try to fix it if I really wanted to put some time and effort into it right now, but it's just frustrating. I like it when stuff like this just works, you know? It's one thing to lose a saved game, but to lose a chapter? Even if it's just "lost" due to an encryption screw up on my own part, it's still way too valuable of something to risk. And the UI used to look so much better to me. Focus Writer looks a lot better to me now, but I don't think it has the ability to do the split screen stuff. I like Poe Writer (windows) for Markdown-ish journaling/basic writing, Day One for cloud journaling, 4theWords used to be good before they got hella greedy, and the upcoming BYOK writing app looks like it will fulfill all my needs, but this particular program makes me sad because what once I loved is now little more than a hassle I have to try to figure out how to extract and convert stuff away from without making it crash first. What a bummer.
