A fascinating and atmospheric metroidvania with a fluid combat and an interesting mystery world to explore. Ghost Song has a very loose story that leaves the player to make most of the connections but even if that isn't your interest I can't imagine anyone wouldn't feel pulled into the bizarre enemies, challenging bosses, and an alien world full of secrets.
The game's visual design is stunning, with eerie, atmospheric environments that set a perfect tone for exploration. The alien world feels alive, with each area having its own unique personality, from dense underground caverns to vast, desolate landscapes. The soundtrack complements this with haunting melodies that enhance the sense of isolation and wonder.
Combat is smooth and satisfying, blending shooting and melee attacks in a way that feels dynamic without being overwhelming. The controls are responsive, and while the challenge increases as you progress, the game never feels unfair. Every encounter is an opportunity to learn the movement patterns of enemies and bosses, which is a key aspect of the metroidvania genre.
The progression system is where Ghost Song really shines. As you unlock new abilities and upgrades, the world opens up even more, rewarding curious players with hidden paths, power-ups, and lore pieces that deepen the mystery. This encourages exploration and experimentation, giving you the sense that there’s always something new to discover, no matter how deep you venture into the world.
Despite the game’s lack of a tightly structured narrative, the world-building is top-notch. Every corner of the map tells a story, whether through environmental details, ancient ruins, or cryptic messages from other explorers. It’s a game that thrives on atmosphere and discovery, and its story unfolds in a way that feels personal and satisfying—if you're willing to dig for it.
Ghost Song isn't just a journey through a strange world, it's a journey of self-discovery, both for the player and for the protagonist. It’s a unique experience in the metroidvania genre, one that’s rich in detail, challenging in its exploration, and deeply immersive in its world-building. If you're a fan of atmospheric exploration games, Ghost Song is a title you won't want to miss.

Mediocre and boring metroidvania due to:
- sluggish movement
- clumsy combat
- half-baked mechanics (primary gun heat build up, stats, melee, dodging)
- weird and quite inconsistent difficulty
- boring enemies
- even more boring (and stupid easy) boss fights
- zero feeling of reward
I debated refunding the game around 1.5 hours in and I regret not doing so. If I wanted to play a mediocre metroidvania, I would've booted up Ender Lilies again.
The only plus is the art style and atmosphere.

One of the most sublime metroidvanias I've ever played. Gorgeous graphics, wonderful exploration, progress at just the right pace, meaty combat and -rare these days- great writing and voice-acting. This game is a Masterpiece.

Amazing game, Very difficult, but make the ending rewarding. Long padded fetch quest, but I'm here for the legendary story and lore. PLEASE make a sequel.

Controls not good enough.
Needs more fast travel points.
Can't use fast travel when you collect a ship part and can only collect 1 part at a time? Well, game is not nearly fun enough to walk all the way back. not gonna play it anymore and add i to my collection of wasted money games ...

Ghost Song has a special place for me. I first played it on Xbox Game Pass a couple years ago, now I decided to buy it on steam to have forever. It's one of those games that I can always go back to every 1-2 years to enjoy over and over again. The music, the art style, and gameplay. Everything works together to really get you immersed in this world and journey. Really hoping to a part 2 or more from this developer.

Good game. Surprised it's not more popular. It felt kind of like Metroid but with almost slice of life vibe, very chilled music and silence at times, philosophical questions about life and existentialism etc. Maybe not for everyone, but I really liked it.

I was on the edge between recommend and not on this one, but in the end I can't recommend.
The contact damage in this game, especially when fighting bosses, is very annoying. You can get trapped in the boss and take multiple hits. You can't take too many boss hits so it's real easy to get killed by a single mistake because you get trapped in the bosses body.
There's a fair amount of dialog. A lot of it is character building of the NPCs but some of it is lore about the world. The world seems interesting enough that you want to learn more, but it really falls flat. The end just kind of leaves with a "that's it?" feeling. One of the main plot points of the game is never actually revealed. It's really only even hinted at if you find the secret part of the map before the end. Even then it's pretty easy to not connect the dots.
You are forced to traverse the map without fast travel when you pick up ship parts. The first time you pick up a ship part there are some new enemies that activate to make it slightly more treacherous. I thought this was going to be a trend with each part getting more difficult, but it's the exact same enemies for every part in the exact same placesso it just becomes trivial for the next four times you're forced to make the journey.
Everything else about the game is pretty great. It's a shame it's so close to a great metroidvania.
