Extremly nice game. Has a little replay value too. Graphics not too great, but it still is good :)

I absolutely recommend this game. It has provided me with hours and hours and fun and entertainment. Seriously! I continue to reenstall it over and over cause it has turned into one of my fallback titles.

A classic TBS game that I bought for nostalgia's sake. Unfortunately the AI is so laughably bad and extremely predictable, ensuring that any player with half a brain can win on any difficulty on any map. Any map with 2 or more islands is especially problematic for the AI, as it doesn't seem to ever build transports, making it impossible to lose if you keep your eyes out for any hovercrafts.
The multiplayer component (Massive Assault Network, different game!) is a lot of fun, but Massive Assault itself can be skipped.

This game is the first strategy game i ever played as a kid and it sparked a lifelong love for the genre.
As far as game-play goes, it's very simple to grasp, but takes time to get the intricacies. I would honestly liken the game to chess; if chess were played on a hex grid, with terrain obstacles, and each piece had more than one hit point. There is also sea and air combat. Sea is fun and the battleship is OP but that makes it that much more awesome. The air combat is limited to one unit, but that unit invincible unless your city is captured or its carrier is sunk, so it adds a little nuance to the game.
There is no economy aside from a set amount of money you get each round to buy new units, but that is temporary and eventually runs out, so don't play this expecting to have buildings to upgrade or anything.
My favorite units are the mobile launcher and guard towers because they strike had from a distance. The Launcher can move so its health is low, but the tower is stationary so it has high health. They are useful for firing from behind your frond line or defending a city from invaders.
Anyway, all in all, this game is simple yet fun, Short, but sweet, and can be as hard or as easy as you want it to be. I definitely recommend it to anyone who wants a simple strategy game or wants some throwback fun.

Old, but still good. The mechanics are clean and simple and you really need to think your way through your turns.

I first played this game when I was 5 years old. Then my PC broke down and I lost it but I brought a new laptop and bought the game from Steam and it was running great but when I was playing Hot-Seat game after progressing very far in the game mode when I clicked END PHASE, suddenly all the units disappeared form the map and nothing was showing up. I re-entered the saved game but the same thing happened again. Please fix it! I will be very much obliged. Thank you!

Great game that I've enjoyed for years, both cd-rom and steam versions, but now will not start at all. The game immediately crashes to desktop.
Edit for Fix, courtesy of Lv-426acheron:
"Sorry, of course.
Download "Dgvoodoo2 " ( actual version is 2.81.3). Inside it`s .zip file you will find a folder named "MS", inside "MS" you will find a folder "X86". The content of "X86", which are 4 .dll files, do copy in your main directory of Massive Assault.
Then start your game.
In the .zip is also a file called "dgvoodoocpl.exe", you can also copy it to your main direcory of your game if you want to edit several options of Dgvoodoo. Use it later if necessary, try to start the game first without using it."

great childhood memories! i still remember missile launcher design and some others.
pros:
- very simple rule set, quick to learn but can get complicated globally, kind of like chess.
- you can get many hours of fun doing scenarios and global wars until it gets repetetive.
cons:
- dated graphics.
- minor bugs and and lack of polish and qol testing. for example when you sink enemy ship, you have to wait for the sinking animation to finish before you can end your turn.
- not worth 10€ in 2021. 1-2€ would be more appropriate.

Okay, let's keep this short: the sequel, Phantom Renaissance, is a much better game, and it's got my actual review explaining why the series is basically the best turn-based strategy/tactics games I've ever played. Compared to this game, it has all the same mechanics, better graphics, and more units. The only reason to buy this one is for the singleplayer missions, and it's got a LOT of them. So either:
1. You already have Phantom Renaissance, in which case all I have to say is that this one has as many missions, and they're just as good. The AI is a little worse, and falls for cheap tactics much more frequently, but it's really not a bother.
2: You don't have any Massive Assault game, and you're wondering if the Massive Assault Collection is worth it. In which case... that actually depends on if you have a friend(s) who likes turn-based strategy/tactic games and might want the Collection too. Yup. You see, neither this game nor its sequel have multiplayer capabilities, while Network is nothing but. So if you just want to play singleplayer, you're better off getting Phantom Renaissance now and then deciding whether to get the 'extra mission DLC' once you've beaten it, because it'll only cost you €2. If you're also interested in multiplayer... while there's quite a lot of players still playing Network 2 (their site says 185 right now), you're really gonna want a friend if you want to play regularly. And if you do, you're better off getting the Collection even if you don't want this game in particular.
...Right, was that clear enough? Basically, don't even consider this game's existence until you've played Phantom Renaissance.
In any case, I still love the hell out of extra missions, so this is definitely a recommendation for me!
