I paid for 7 items, STEAM says all are in my library but I only see two - GameGuru and AppGameKit. How do I find all the DLC and add-on packs ?

Get it while it's 60% off! I don't think it is worth the full asking price though as it is a pdf and I prefer physical books to ebooks, especially for that price! Am happy about the discount though as the documentation is very much needed to help me on my way. The Guide itself is jam packed with tutorials, examples and activities that it is a must for anyone learning AGK or those who need a great reference for the commands.

Unless I am missing something entirely... neither the Tutorial guide Vol 1 nor Vol 2 come with (full) source code projects. It would have been neat (and a real time saver) if they would have been included in the Steam DLC download. The link mentioned within the PDF file links to a download that has compiled EXE files, not .agk projects. This is definitely a let down. No offense, but a precompiled EXE is useless if the text already explains the theory well enough. Still, the .pdf files of both Tutorial Guide Vol 1 and Vol 2 do offer a good amount of programming info in them (combined it's close to 2000 pages of text, so be prepared for some reading!). Speaking of actual code, I kind of dislike how the Vol 1 one doesn't provide all that much in terms of code examples for the first good couple of chapters. It literally takes until about chapter 5 before you'll see the first arguably more useful snippets of code. I do understand why, as it forces you to just learn to program yourself with the 'guide' providing some theoretical guidance as you go along. However, for the cost source code in a project file would have been nice. I've got a programming background, so a lot of the theory of the first chapters isn't all that interesting to me (still recommende to go through anyway though!). And it is really the AGK 2 syntax I want to learn here, not basic programming theory. In fact, I do think beginners would still be puzzled how to translate some of that theory into AGK tier 1 script. It would have been better to just have the source code to that as well. I mean, there are precompiled EXE files anyway, so why not? Heck, I could probably live with those projects sometimes featuring outdated code. Anyone remotely interested in these guides should get them right now while they're discounted. They are not worth getting at full price, sorry. I would say Vol 2 is the most useful one in terms of actual code examples. But most beginners should not skip AppGameKit Tutorial Guide Vol 1. Honestly, I think Vol 2 should have been the same price as the Vol 1 at a 60% discount for lacking source code. Again, keep in mind how this stuff is supposed to teach you syntax through examples, more so than being a 'how to program a game'. Don't get me wrong, I am not bashing the theoretical examples both guides offer. They are useful, to both beginners and intermediate programmers for sure. But in terms of syntax it would definitely help had this guide offered more actual code. This is also especially true because the AGK IDE itself (program you launch to program your games in tier 1 code) has a pretty terrible 'help' function, which is basically their barebone manual with many commands lacking examples. Again, for AGK specific functions or commands or specific syntax for tier 1 coding, it is very necessary to see more code examples. It's not about having them program half of your game for you mind you. It is about syntax and understanding commands anyone new to the engine would simply not know about. And this engine does have quite a lot of unique stuff it allows or doesn't allow or require compared to the average C focused script game engine. Even with somewhat decent knowledge of C++ and trying your hand at programming in tier 2 using Visual Studio, you're still going to need to know those AGK commands. So this is a real issue with AGK 2, no matter how you look at it. So, anyone who's looking for a 'manual replacement', I'm afraid these two guides aren't quite that. The AGK developer really needs to update the manual, add more syntax oriented code examples. But with these guides, the Help function manual and resources elsewhere on the internet (forums), one should be able to get a grasp of the engine quickly. People who say these guides should have been part of the AGK 2 itself are mostly right. Unfortunately the only way of letting anyone know that is getting it while it is discounted I guess. In terms of overall value and the lack of the official manual that comes with AGK I still have to recommend getting both Tutorial Guides. AGK 2 is a pretty good engine all things considered. To me mostly because of how cheap and easy it is for mobile platform projects. By most standards we're dealing with a pretty decent and good engine here, but you probably shouldn't expect CryEngine or Unreal Engine level of performance. I suppose most people looking into this engine and it's guide are either into mobile development or looking for an easy engine to get their feet wet in programming. For that, AGK 2 is great. It offers that and more.

I really like this guide, it is very easy to understand and very well explained, I only have one problem, it has sections that are not correct, repeated numbers and contradictory algorithms in certain places, I have not finished reading it all, but these problems confuse If you do not pay attention, a simple one that I found was in an algorithm of page 42, where they repeat the number of the instruction, besides not being in the correct sequence, (1,2,3,4,5,6,7, 8,9,10,11,14,14) the problem is observed here, it jumps from 11 to 14, in addition to repeating it, being the correct 11,12,13. In activity 1.23, the exercise says that we use the OR operator, but its using AND. I certainly recommend this guide, but it would be awesome if they made a second edition correcting the problems that could have besides the ones mentioned.

Great guide a must have for that "one foot in the door" feeling! Also very comprehensive and well written! The one thing I don't understand is why the example/required materials don't come with the guide. They aren't hard to obtain but why not just bundle them in with the dlc?

This ebook will help you create a solid foundation to make a game(or app). The first chapters consists of a thorough explanation of basic programming and logic. There are activities sprinkled between each lesson and syntax use.(I advise NOT to skip doing these activities as they can help you better understand the functions of each syntax and the priority logic of the language) The later chapters deal with actually creating (simple 2D) games. But make no mistake, the games themselves are not the final product but merely another tool to advance your knowledge in programming your own games. In conclusion, along with the original documentation that came with AGK2 and the documentation found in the AppGameKit [url=http://www.appgamekit.com/documentation/home.html]website[/url], the "The Official App Game Kit Tutorial Guide" completes the spectrum of references needed to unlock the full potential of AGK2

It's the missing manual for AGK2. The documentation included with the base purchase is really pretty poor, but this text really breaks it down as simply as you can, and is pretty exhaustive. It includes a lot of beginning programming instruction, so it seems like anyone could get started with this as long as they understand some very basic geometry/trig, making this a great first game engine to learn perhaps, which I definitely would not have said when I didn't have this text. Could be cheaper, but sale price was fair. Doesn't cover the C++ option at all, that would be nice for the next edition maybe.

So far I'm impressed with the quality of the book. It's informative and comprehensive. There are lots of questions and the explanations are given with several examples to help understand the concept from multiple angles. I do recommend the book for beginners and as a brush up for developers coming from different languages and/or different development systems. The only negative feedback is not about quality but marketing material. I was under the impression from reading the marketing blurb that this book was wholely different from the beginner's guide also sold as a DLC for AGK2. But after reading a review of the other product, I was informed that the two books are identical and that the other book is just a subset of this one. If I hadn't known that I would have purchased both books and would have been just as upset as the person who wrote the other review.

This is the guide to get. it has all the same content as the beginners guide and more. don't get the beginners guide as its just a cutback version of this guide (its missing like the last 3 Chapters) this guide has it all

Right off the bat, I have to say that this is overpriced for an ebook, especially given its target audience and the fact that AGK doesn't come with a manual. But it does have a lot of useful information for users of varying degrees of expertise. And that's both good and bad. The first 500 or so pages basically amount to a long tutorial on programming. This is certainly great for people who come at AGK with no programming experience, but for those who are past that, it will be tedious to go through the very basic (no pun intended) explanations just for the useful snippets of code. A "cookbook" format separate from the tutorials would have been more useful for most people. The last 400 pages are no longer about learning how to program, but rather how to use AGK. which is the part that's useful to everyone, beginners and more experienced programmers alike. Stylistically, it's a bit of a mess. It often feels as if the person designing the look of the book set out to use every possible font and text style, and by George! do they ever LOVE bubbles! For some reason that can probably only be explained by a binge of mind-altering substances, function signatures are presented as the return type in plain text, and then the function name, the opening parenthesis, the closing parenthesis, and everything in between in their own separate bubbles. But if you can get past the typhoon of fonts styles and colorful bubbles, there's a decent guide to AGK under there. WARNING: if you buy this, DO NOT also buy "The Official App Game Kit Beginners Guide" as it is included in the first 667 pages of this ebook.
