I'm so-so on dungeon crawlers. I can dig a good crawl if there's rougelike shenanigans at play, the combat is fun, or the story is compelling. Given the reviews, I knew the first of those wasn't going to be it. I gave this a shot well past the refund period hoping it would pick up. I give up. I can't. The story is compelling, but then every step or discovery along the way seems to be in a different direction. I feel like I'm not going to get the satisfaction I'm looking for, even as far in as I am. Combat is the reason I'm giving up on this. The combat is miserable. Got a group of enemies? The main person has the hit all move. Use that. Now they're dead. That's it. There's Mire but honestly, it doesn't really matter. Combat is mostly a matter if Casting Fist until HP, the most important stat, is 0. Mire seemed like an interesting concept that isn't fully used. There's hardly any variety to enemy encounters, which is disappointing. I don't like the way the enemies show on screen. What's the point of putting them in a hallway like I can skip past them if they move faster than me? It reminds me of when games give a choice box but all the options are the same. I never like that. Bosses I just do ocean, enemy groups are the wave that hits everything. Everything else is just punch until it dies. Also shopping is miserable. You have to stand on a tile, get told "you wanna buy this", accept. Now you have one. Why not just use a menu and let me buy multiple? Or to just plain have a menu? I want to buy 10 potions and I can feel myself just nodding off. Save points don't heal you. When you want to heal everyone, you have to go to the inn, walk over to the room and then accept to save. Why not do the fade to black right as I'm at the counter? Like, so much of this just feels like the game doesn't care about my time. There's not enough of the story trickling out to compel me to stick with this considering the combat. I liked the aesthetics, for what it's worth.
