This is a FPS I'd expect fans of older FPS titles will enjoy. Probably. Maybe. Eh.. I gave up on it in less than an hour. I eventually hit a point where I realized I was trying to have fun, but not having fun. Might as well move on.
It's made in EZFPS, which is a FPS maker that has been growing in popularity. I'd say it is for good reason, as we've really gotten a large amount of shooters that we might not have received otherwise. But, the more games I play made in the engine, the more they all bleed together and feel similar.
Anyway, Quartermain and the Cult of Cthulhu has some decent elements to it that kept me entertained at first. Your revolver is surprisingly powerful, the shotgun is alright, enemies are fun to kill. But the level design feels a bit atrocious. A myriad of mazes with twists and turns of complexity that seem to exist only to make the levels feel more expansive than they are. The moving train level seems kind of cool at first, but it just goes on and on and on. It's quite possibly the longest train level I've ever seen, and I've played through lots of train levels in FPS games over the years.
The weapons have a pretty huge imbalance. The revolver seems to be one of the more powerful weapons, so there's not a ton of reasons to use anything else outside of personal reasons. Most enemies die within one shot, many enemies show no visual indication that they're taking damage. Using the MP4 on a robot enemy seems like a grand idea but it's faster to kill them with the revolver. I reached a point where I didn't even bother using new weapons because the revolver was my go-to bad guy killing machine. There's also more ammo than the population of North Dakota, so you'll almost never need to be concerned about having enough.
Ultimately the game just kind of falls flat for me. It's a solid FPS for sure, but I guess it isn't for me.

I made it to the first boss! Super fun game...first boss is almost impossible though.
Second boss is harder. After a little while longer I ceased playing. I will play this developer's work again though. Some recommendations.
1. Rocket Launcher weapons
2. Less Serious Sam style bosses aim for Wolf 3D/Doom if you must do bosses in a boomer shooter.
3. More research in weapons. A Navy Colt does not have .45 LC ammo. A Walther PP or PPK does not have a modern day 15 round double stack magazine.

Kept crashing every time I tried loading my last save, can't recommend it based of that. Other than that this is a solid boomer shooter, I'd recommend it if it wasn't for that crashing issue.
Changed the review to a thumbs up because the developer was helpful and receptive to feedback.

I love seeing someone's Call of Cthulhu campaign translated into a video game, apparently with the players performing their characters. The pixel art is clean and attractive, with some creative renditions of Cthulhu Mythos stalwarts. Most weapons have a clear strategic niche. However, I'm never a fan of hitscan enemies--and many of the hitscanners in this game strike nearly instantaneously. It's the main downside to an otherwise fun and charming experience.

Solid old-school FPS. Clearly, a lot of time and effort has gone into it. The soundtrack is really good, and there’s a nice variety of enemies and weapons to use.
That said, I did notice some questionable hit detection at times, and I wasn’t a big fan of the sections where you just fight waves of enemies — that kind of stuff feels pretty dull to me.
But overall, it was a positive experience, and I’m truly impressed with what ThePrinceOfMars has managed to do here with Quartermain and the Cult of Cthulhu. They clearly care a lot about this game and about giving players a great experience.

You can't save during a level which means you gotta replay the whole fucking slog again if you died near the end because a bullshit hitscanner got you.
Badly designed in terms of balance which is unfortunate.
Edit: My savefile got corrupted during the final boss, the game is quite buggy sadly, I gave up then. Already had to replay multiple levels because I got stuck in the environment, weapons disappeared on me, etc.
Cannot really recommend although the setting, wacky voice acting and pixelart are all quite good. But the lows sour it for me.
