I've had this sitting in my library for most of 10 years next to 1200 other unplayed games and decided to finally give it a go...
I love the game design, but it's very unbalanced in favor of enemy. I consider myself an RTS veteran, but couldn't keep up with this game. Frustrating.
Mims are suicidal and wander aimlessly a lot. They won't take care of themselves and that makes scaling impossible. Game play is pretty fast with a lot happening, and you can't pause to queue actions. This game is unforgiving even on the easiest settings, to the point that it is more frustrating than fun. As many reviews have pointed out, to top it off, there's no save feature. The game does track which missions you've completed successfully at least.
