KABUTO PARK What a wonderful little game about a summer holiday gone bad. You play as Hanna, a kid with a silly hat. She is enticed by her peers to participate in an Insect battle tournament. She is forced to adventure around the titular Kabuto Park to catch her combatants and force them to fight for her in caged matches (on top of a tambourine) in order to earn eternal glory.. Kabuto Park consists of 4 distinctive frontiers full of insects to catch. Sunny Farm: Easy, cozy, and full of little critters. Beginners and gooners should start and STAY here. Calm Lake: Lakescape full of medium weight champions. Beautiful, tranquil, yet lacking in sophistication. Pine Forest: Abundant in bugs, creepers and flyers. Arboreal ecology at its finest. Primed for bug-catching enthusiasts. Crawler Swamp: Only for the sickest of insect slavery enjoyers. Wetland galore, made for those who want to stomp their enemies into the crevices of earth where they belong. All caught bugs are unique and have their own stats and abilities, of which I shall now give you a rudimentary summary of. Insects’ capabilities are divided into three values of Strength, Defense and Energy, STR, DEF and NRG for short. STR makes your team push faster, for those of you who never skip protein powder induced gym sessions. DEF makes your team harder to push, for those who never skip breakfast, lunch and dinner. NRG makes your energy fill faster, for those who drink Monster Energy unironically. All are given a selection of “cards” to show what they can do. Like Yu-Gi-Oh!, but better. As there are so many different cards and abilities, I won’t be explaining any of them. Play the game will you. Some bugs are slow but powerful, tanks if you please. Some are fast but lack the girth to compete, lightweight speedsters. Some utilise strength in numbers, practicing the anti-capitalistic philosophy of quality over quantity. Some do weird shit, like copy others’ abilities. Some are utterly useless. Sh1t even. I’m looking at you, LESSER STAG. You’ll have to choose your combatants very carefully in order to conquer the tournament and become the Summer Beetle Battles Champion. If you are struggling, you might want to venture into the local store that provides you with the necessities for life in Kabuto Park. Use your hard earned cash to satisfy your shopaholic needs. Candy and Honey, for you and your insects’ nourishment. Magnifier and Bug nets to assist you in your bug catching. Bugpedia to help you identify all the little insects that crawl around you. And Boots, proper wellies, that grants you access to the different biomes mentioned above. Collect all the bugs, make them fight for you. It is like a branch in the timeline, where Gamefreak, the Pokemon creator, actually made a game about bug catching instead of creating their own battling animals. I’m waiting for the TCG and anime based on the Kabuto Park franchise. 5/5 Best cozy game I’ve played in a while. Here is my manly and fully optimised strategy. By following it you’ll be (most likely) undefeatable. The Bee-Line manoeuvre. 2x Honey Bees (Apis Mellifera) LVL 20. To boost energy supply with the cheap Faster Together card, halt the enemy with the Relax card and push them back with the Wind card. 1x Blue-Banded Bee (Amegilla Cingulata) LVL 20. To provide extra oomph in blow-power with the Back Wind card, to expand your wind repertoire with the Bad Weather card and extra energy with the Excited Flapping card. Use the energy gain cards provided by the Honey Bees and Blue-Banded Bee to energise your Anthophila war machine. Then, hold the enemy back with the Relax card, as they most likely have more stats than your team. Reinforce your winds with the Back Wind card, and start the delicate dance of energy gain and blowing winds to push your opponent’s bugs off the battlefield. Simple, ADHD-powered strategy.

the only game that makes me wanna go outside and stay offline in the best way possible. i love every single aspect of this masterpiece - the music, the visuals, the hidden stats, the progression, shiny bugs. i only wish, there were like 500 more bugs and a co-op and trading cards and maybe a way to search for attacks. i rate it 6/6 insect legs. absolute bug-fest

Okay things to know; I am 42 years old and i LOVE this game! Why? A few reasons for this: The bug battles are like real life ones, not Pokemon stuff. You catch the bugs (which are all real bugs, not fantasy) with a butterfly net at various locations throughout the camp, not shove them into a magical ball and for the battles, you have a platform and your beetles will try to shove the other beetles (or other bugs) off the little platform so no actual violence beyond king of the hill game pushing to stay on the platform, which is how many real beetle species fight for dominance or for a mate. love the realism factor there! The artwork is adorable and the bugs all have small bits of info about them, which gives a small bit of education factor to it as well. it is extremely family friendly. No blood or gore or foul language, just a super cute game i can play with my kids or future grand children without any concerns. Definitely fun for all ages. Few games manage to really nail this one, but this one did. Seriously pleased with this game, definitely worth getting!
