a message to the Skate community
let me preface this review by saying, i don’t hate Skate as a franchise or even this game. i love Skate and always will ever since i grew up playing Skate 2 and Skate 3 on my Xbox 360 at 10 years old in 2012, but i hate everything this game represents and what it’s done to the legacy of the Skate franchise no matter how good the core gameplay may be or if we got the current game for free.
there has always been a complete lack of communication from Full Circle and EA since play testing began...and now all criticism related to this is removed daily from both the official discord and subreddit moderated by EA and Full Circle staff
this all seems more relevant now since we’ve seen exactly what the intentions with this game are with the outcome of the second of week for Skate’s first ever event locking all the marketed cosmetics advertising “Skate-o-ween” behind the paid shop and leaving a completely useless currency with nothing new to earn for it making the entire “event” a scam losing Full Circle and EA any of the little good will they had left with the community. i didn’t want to be right about it but i couldn’t ignore the signs. i play tested this game since September 2023 and officially quit day 1 of the “Skate-o-ween event” after finishing everything it had to offer in a few hours and skating around each park for an extra hour each to really give it a chance. i had even bought the deluxe founders pack before season 1 launched to give myself the best chance at experiencing everything the game has to offer both paid and free. i only ever bought the grim reaper bundle, the painted pants and the copper trucks. as i’m writing this i’m left with about 3000 svb on my account with Skate still uninstalled and will never use them. i wasted my money and want to stop anyone else from doing the same, nothing in this game is worth even the smallest amount of your income.
they removed all the promised features before the game went public and never addressed this...only to then add some of those purposely removed features to a roadmap for seasons 1, 2 and 3
EA and Full Circle will never listen to your concerns now since they didn’t listen to any tester’s concerns and criticism since the beginning. the game had tag, collabozones, community pop up challenges, parkour challenges like time trials/races, difficulty options for each challenge, free cosmetics you could level to get different styles/colours of and random little games to play with the community in the early play tests. as soon as the shop got added fully they took everything worthwhile out of the game and changed direction completely.
they completely switched the entire game direction as soon as the shop was implemented...only to still falsely advertise the true vision for the game and completely stop creating devlogs
it really is depressing seeing what the game became. they had a solid foundation when the game was still untextured and even the art style was more grounded. i still remember the original tutorial spawn being a remake of the first skate park from Skate 1 before you took the first bus stop into the city. you could even teleport back to skate there or welcome new players at anytime.
they sold premium currency while the game was still in pre pre pre alpha before removing every item purchased with the promise to return the premium currency spent on them once the game was in public early access...some people still don't have their promised currency back
early access will never be a valid defence for predatory monetization tactics and broken false promises perpetuated by a money hungry corporate entity that views the Skate community and new players as open wallets to feed on while trying to quench their insatiable greed. early access games don’t have built in micro transactions, as soon as they added a working shop for real money that was the end of early access and the beginning of the end for EA Skate, or as i refer to it Skate Online.
Full Circle and EA don't care about any players and only make bug fixes focused on everything revolving around mtx and cosmetics..while still completely neglecting tons of game breaking bugs since day 1
the devs had every chance to communicate and make things right but they didn’t, show them these actions are unacceptable and uninstall this game. don’t finish the platinum, don’t finish the Skate Pass, don’t buy anything in the shop, don’t waste your time waiting for a day that things will get better to never arrive. save your time, money, energy and take care of yourself by getting rid of this game from your life and your mind. you will be happier and less stressed because of it i promise. focus on supporting indie devs or even making the dream skating game you’ve always wanted yourselves, game dev has never been more approachable than ever before with tools like Godot and youtube tutorials. just please listen to me and the countless other testers who have seen this game evolve and die in real time over the past 5 years,
get rid of Skate immediately!!!
Just posting as a tip/suggestion for those who have purchased this/intend to purchase: you will most likely need to relaunch the game for the rewards to populate within your account.
Tis a great game and I’m surprised what you get for a f2p title!
