Great music and visuals with a ton of replay value. Inspired by some of the most manic and creative games of all-time and puts that inspiration to good use and also builds on it in an original way. Worth every penny.

Full disclosure of potential bias: This game was made in my hometown by people I know (not necessarily close friends, but at least one friendly acquaintance. Hi Anthony!) Shutshimi is good. It's polished, and I really don't think there's much you can say in the way of technical flaws. It's a quirky retro scrolling shooter with great visuals, sound, and tight controls. But man... there's just no staying power here. Replay value sure, a little. See what all the powerups do, the hats and things, all the little jokes and easter eggs to find, and it's a challenge to boot. But it's remarkably short. Take a look at the other reviews. As of this writing, years after release, I see only three that have clocked over 10 hours. Compare to other Steam games you see, indie or AAA, where the reviews have 5000 hours and read "its ok". Maybe that's understandable, that it's fitting for the genre or price tag or whatever. Maybe it's part of the gag, that the jacked little fishy skips leg day. But the length (or lack thereof) couldn't help but stick with me. I throw it on remote play sessions for friends to try every now and then because, "Hey! Local game!" and it usually runs its course in a couple of minutes. We like the experience, sure, it's a fun little time waster, just not much time. By all means, pick it up, support the devs, find the level that's nothing but butts. Especially on a sale. Just be wary there's only so much of it to go around.

Weird little Warioware style side-scrolling shoot'em up about a goldfish in space. I mention Warioware because each level is only 10 seconds long and usually has a bizarre status condition that differs from level to level. https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2389016699 Between levels you visit an item to shop to purchase new powerups but the catch is you don't really know what kind of powerup you're getting. None of the icons look anything like what you're about to unlock and the descriptions seem to be randomly generated. It's the kind of game that's good for a few cheap laughs with a friend on a lazy afternoon. https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2394329057

Is a great combination of Raiden + Binding of Isaac + Half Minute Hero. Was lucky enough to try it before went out on the stores and I absolutely loved it. It has a nostalgic feel of a classic side scrolling shooter with a bunch of modern twists. It short burst levels for 10 seconds followed by a 10 second item selection. After each level you get to modify your weapon or yourself with a random upgrade (cannonballs, lazers, triple shot, etc). You can tell whomever was writing the text for items was having fun because there are little jokes everywhere. The levels also can have effects on them that change how you play such as a rave party setting or inverted. The sounds and music were that of modern day 8-bit. Graphics are done in the retro style also. Was cute and they especially put a lot of effort into the backgrounds. Good replayability with the randomization. I'm not much for competition so I enjoyed the co-op aspect of the game where my buddies that were more competitive liked being able to see who got the highest scores. As a scientist I have to say that I do not believe fish can smoke ciagrs underwater but besides that it was an all around fun game to pick up for 5 minutes to play solo or 5 hours with friends!

Having a blast with this one, an obvious choice for those who are into 2D style shoot em ups and retro tunes. The art is colorful and vibrant with all sorts of neat little modes and accessories for your fish. Bosses and powerups makes me want to keep coming back for more. I would totally recommend this to hardcore gamers and casual ones alike!

Pretty smart game, with a very good sense of humour, and a sort of perks-driven progression that is a lot of fun. Each playthrough is gonna change quite a lot depending on the upgrades you pick. Again, the Shooting Ships bundle delivers!

When there are so many shoot 'em up's on the market, it can be really hard to find one that leaves an impression so vividly in your memory. What better a game to do so than one about a fish with realistic biceps and a 10 second long memory span? Let's face it, you already know what this game is about. You shoot stuff. However, this game is unlike many other shmups because you shoot stuff in high volume for very short amounts of time. 10 seconds to be exact. And then you get to pick one of three upgrades - within 10 seconds. And then that upgrade lasts (depending on the upgrade) for the next 10 seconds of shooting before it's gone. This mechanic not only ties you to your avatar - a fish with arms - using gameplay in a very clever and intuitive way, but it also gives for a fast paced, replayable, arcade-like game. Aside from the main mechanics, the controls are responsive and simple, the upgrades are hilarious (sometimes infuriatingly so), the visuals are pleasing, and the music is the best culmination of 10 second long chiptune tracks that I've ever heard. I think the only thing that could improve this game is a 3DS port so I can bring it with me everywhere.

A masterpiece, one of the best games on steam. This game is art that puts games like undertale and omori to shame with its storytelling. Godspeed Neon Deity Games

Shutshimi is a game for real men who have what it takes to protect their homes from the terrors of the ocean! It’s a randomized shoot ‘em up game that heavily relies on RNG which can also lead to frustration when it comes to hunting achievements, but since each wave takes about 10 seconds long, it’s not that bad, I guess. At the end of each wave, you get to a shop and are presented with 3 different items with bizarre descriptions that give not-so-useful information about the item you’re about to get for the next wave. Different guns, extra fish, and the fishbowl last until they’re gone, but the rest of the items last for a single wave only. You technically have 3 unique bosses and 3 more with their variants and after that, the game ends and you are rewarded with Victory Laps that go on and on. Apart from the normal game mode, you have a baby mode that has only 2 bosses and no real rewards, Boss Rush, and a game mode that is much more difficult and gives you one chance throughout the whole run. You can also play co-op and it’s quite fun! If you’re after the achievements, all of them can be completed rather quickly, but 3 of them can be quite frustrating due to their reliance on RNG. However, if you’re aiming to get all hats and in-game achievements, then start worshipping the RNG God because you won’t get them hats without his help! I temporarily converted to his religion to fulfill my end goal… and it was worth it!
TL;DR
A very fun and small randomized shoot 'em up game that relies a bit too much on RNG, but can be quite fun if you’re playing co-op with friends!
