One of my favorite video game genres are Fishing RPGs, which is incredibly niche to come across. Saw the dev advertising this game on Reddit and bought this game day 1 to try out.
RPG Maker, like all of the dev's other games, but with a twist, like all of the dev's other games. It's very simple, but I find it so unique how the fishing mechanic is just the RPGM battle system. It kind of works and I like it.
EDIT: My previous review had a few complaints and suggestions, most of which the dev has since responded to and addressed in game already. Very happy about this!
It's supposed to be a fun little game that can be beaten within 2 hours and is genuinely fun. And honestly, I did have fun. Specifically thanks to the fishes.
The fish designs in this game are really fun and creative. Lots are samey– similar body type and pose, but with something special about them that somewhat sets them apart– while others are so out there and crazy, I'm completely pulled into the game, just wanting to see every new cool design. It's AI generated, but I don't care. The designs are neat and it genuinely makes me want to collect them all. Luckily there is a Fishing Book that keeps record of all caught fish.
At the end of the day, I don't need a lot from my fishing game, especially a $2 one. The designs are cool and I think the dev's take on a fishing RPGM game is neat.
So yeah, if you have $2 to spare and want to see some creative Lovecraftian fish designs, I'd recommend this game.
