Backrooms Level X Reviews

Not worth that kind of price whatsoever :(

This game is Awesome. :D 10/10 love the backrooms games this is one of the most Awesome Backrooms i have played yet. :)

This is a terrible backrooms experience. They thought they would be cute and put G-man from Half Life in it, and it's also only 40 minutes long. No exploration or the comfy, nostalgia and cozy feelings you get from good backroom games. It's more or less a linear maze. More maze than anything else. They SHOULD call it "Backrooms: dumb maze"

As a huge fan of the backrooms genre, I love the liminal space experience. Since I can see the dev is closely watching the reviews I wanted to at least provide some constructive feedback. 1. The VHS tape effect made my eyes water like crazy at first, but after a while it becomes bearable. Having the ability to shut off or reduce it's effect would be nice. 2. There is an odd glitch where the character simply will not move. Releasing the W key then repressing fixes it, but when an entity suddenly starts chasing, it can become a bigger issue to have to remember to release then repress the key just to keep running. 3. The FOV needs to be wider. It's so narrow that movement does not feel natural - you really FEEL like you're playing a 90s-era game even though I'm sure that wasn't the intention. 4. Why the shadows in well-lit areas that are only a few feet away? I imagine this was meant to be stylistic, but it makes the game look cheap. 5. The area immediately following the pools is unnecessarily RNG and feels like a gimmicky way to kill the player over and over until the exit door spawns in a good location. 6. This game is short. I mean, hella short. At 1.5 hours I got almost all of the achievements and I was just trying to get to the exits as fast as possible. This is obviously an early attempt to design a game from scratch and I appreciate what the dev is doing. And at $7 the game is just OK. But it's a very fast ride that is over quickly.

You can really tell this is an indie game, and I mean that in the best way. The atmosphere is unique and the tension is real—I kept getting lost in the maze-like levels, never sure what was waiting around the next corner. It’s not a huge blockbuster, but it doesn’t need to be. It’s fun, it keeps you guessing, and it actually made me nervous more than once. If you like indie horror and want something different, give this one a try.
