I would give this DLC a thumbs up but one of their tanks doesn't move and when it does it moves very slowly.
Modern tank combat in its full colors.
This DLC will gives you a solid perspective of how demolioshing it is compared to the WW II era.
Can't believe how trash the Soviet tanks were... First shot is the key in the combat, and Iran is a much easier faction because of its supreme long distance capacities. First to shot - first to kill.
My only advice to the devs is to improve smoke and fire effects. Besides that, the DLC is flawless.

So yeah what will i say about Shield of the Prophet?
Its phenomenal !
I started with the Iranians. You start outnumbered and outclassed. Your british Chieftains are heavily outnumbered and you cant expect to hold the line with them forever. So you give ground slowly...then faster...then most your tanks are getting destroyed. Round after round. Loosing ground and giving it freely so you can retreat.
And when you think all is lost...enemy around you...cant hold anymore....BAM THE REINFORCEMENTS! THE RAGGED IRANIAN 92nd with new M 60 TANKS !!!
And the winds of war change direction. The soviets give ground but for each casualty of their own they try to make us pay with blood. Yet they cant hold. They fall back and in the end the operation is ours !
So yeah this DLC is worth every cent. Its great.
While this game is set in a fictional history ( Iran vs Soviets in afghanistan 79), you can easily imagine this as one of the operations in the Iraq Iran war.
BUY IT!

I am very tempted to give a thumbs down - simply because of the DLC updater that ships with the base game.
Recently I uninstalled this game, and reinstalled on an SSD. As an aside (No1) - I've discovered that the FPS is higher when GTOS is installed on SSD. I think it's possibly due to the terrain file being modified in storage whenever an explosion occurs (If you don't believe me check task manager and watch the Disk I/O!). Aside (No2) - If you fix the process affinity to just a couple of Cores it probably runs no slower than on four cores - as most execution is in kernel overhead coming from multi-threading in the first place - which scales as number of cores executed on increases).
Anyway, as I hadn't played in quite a long time, I had forgotten all about the dumb DLC installer. I simply installed every DLC as it popped up. It likely installs them in the order you purchased them. Maybe that is incorrect. But however it does it (I won't uninstall/install to double check it) the DLC was not automatically in the correct priority order to allow me to play this DLC correctly.
I am talking about the Mk5 Chieftain Tank bug. Yes they were heavy tanks and under-engine-powered. But in real life they did actually move. With this DLC, as originally released, they did not (except perhaps downhill or off a cliff). I was stuck with the as originally released mess.
Eventually - after a long evening in which I had taught myself to Mod the game, and made the Chieftain 40000lbs rather than 55000lbs and changed the transmission to match the T55 [it was a hack] I had a working tank!
By then it was 2am...and after the glow of success filled my being, I then saw a little comment on some forum on an unrelated topic saying how the game had always been troublesome about DLC/Mod install order...and ping...I remembered.
Yes - on the main menu page of the game - click on the top right hand corner version number. Then you can modify the order that DLC and updates are applied.
If you want this DLC to work - you must order the 4.08 update at the top, followed by the texture update, and then...well you know the rest of the DLC with most recent first and oldest being last.
What - you expect me to comment on the actual DLC and the game?
Do you think I have time left to actually play it?
10/10 - this game is a master class material in problem solving; through and through.

An unbelievable DLC, allows you to fight as the Russians vs the Mujahedeen and some Iranian Foreign Fighters. The title itself "Graviteam Tactics" is one of the most realistic warfare simulators out there. Your first engagement will leave your palms trembling, your forehead sweating and a general sense of satisfaction whether you win or lose. Morale and geography are extremely important, a small hill blocking your AT gun from an enemy tank could finish you off, likewise when your men are under heavy fire they often cower in fear and refuse to fire weapons. Some surrender, others run off in panic and are sometimes cut down by their own men.
The vehicles themselves are beautifully constructed, seemingly navigating every contour of the rough, afghan terrain with amazing realism. What more do you need?
