What a great little game :) Gave me Obra Dinn vibes. Keep up the good work!

Nice short game. Takes a while to fully comprehend what to do, but then everything clicks into place and wraps up. Definitely worth a go if you enjoy deduction-based games!

Amazing, had great time with friends solving the mystery. Could use life improvements like separating first and last names when choosing names, and to remove the names of people you already figured out. But that's nitpicking, great game can recommend.

quite a bit shorter than i was expecting but still a fun experience. i appreciate that the puzzle solving had a pretty hands off approach, hand-holding is one of my biggest gripes in detective games and this managed to avoid that. i do wish there was a bit more context for what the player character was doing in the story, in the beginning and/or the end of the game, but it's a minor gripe.

Utter A Name is a wonderfully dark, atmospheric and clever mystery occult game, set in a monochrome pixel graphics old mansion full of ghosts and bodies; it is clearly a close cousin of the magnificent Obra Dinn. You wander the house as a young woman, listening to the ghosts and watching flashbacks of the deaths and of the events leading up to them. Your purpose is to name each ghost and who killed them, which releases their spirit (the game only confirms or rejects your verdicts when you have made three of them). There are four achievements all related to game progress. As with Obra Dinn, I struggled at the start of this game with trying to understand its mechanics; there is very little hand-holding here. But the glimpses of the unfolding story are as fascinating as they are disturbing, and made me want to plough on and gradually gain familiarity with the game's structure. And also like Obra Dinn, it suffers from the same player frustration: once you have finished the game you wish that you could forget everything in order to play it through again without prior knowledge. One area in which Utter A Name suffered in comparison to Obra Dinn was in the detail of the artwork; the pixel graphics conveyed a wonderful sense of doom and dread, but were not quite sharp enough when trying to spot tiny details about clothing, hair styles etc in order to try to identify individuals in the story, particularly when only a small part of them was visible. Overall, an excellent occult murder game. As with Obra Dinn I look forward to playing it again after a break of a year or so to forget as much as I can...

A well-made and enjoyable puzzler - clearly takes a lot of inspiration from Return of the Obra Dinn, and I hope we get to see a lot more Dinn-likes in future. The answers start as simple deduction, but then take a couple of clever little leaps. There's enough clues to go on without ever feeling like the game is spoon-feeding you.
