Surprisingly good. The characters were well-written. Combat was decent but nothing exceptional. The DLC was all great.

I played for a little bit and I did some what enjoy the game play. Just keeps crashing and I cant figure out why. It crashes randomly on startup ten minutes into play, or even 50 minutes. Just no reason why just happens.

Boring game, the procedural generation makes it not a streamlined experience, would have been better as a story driven linear game, as it is feels like a bad fever dream.

Genuinely without a doubt my favourite game ever. I love it so much it's just insane. Is it a buggy mess? Yes. Are most of the quests fetch quests? Yes. But I don't care I love it so much it's insane

How can a game from 2018 still be riddled with glitches? I've reloaded so many saved files and wasted time trying to debug a seven year old game. Jesus.

The game is a solid 5/10. It plays like a game of 2007, and would it have been published 10 years earlier it would score higher (7/10). Since story is a matter of taste I won't discuss it here, also to keep things spoiler free. First of all the AI in We Happy Few is quite crude and basic. Enemies lose you easily once out of sight. NPC's are just filler, they don't do anything but loiter or wander aimlessly. NPCs are given (very short) walk routines over narrow pathways, you can't really interact with them neither. Interaction results in saying: "Hi" or "Hello" and receiving a one line response back (the same 1/2 lines repeatedly). The AI in this game is equal to what has been around since Thief the dark project (released in 1998). The most fancy thing you can do is throw a rock and watch an enemy take the bait by following the sound.. Interaction with your surroundings and environment is also very limited. You can sneak around, lock pick a door or box and pick up certain items for a simple (but cute) crafting mechanism from the inventory menu. There was never a moment that surprised me positively or I considered refreshing about the game play loop or the game mechanics. Very often sneaking is not rewarded because in the end certain points of the story are all scripted. Imagine sneaking around a place for about an hour and making it undiscovered to a certain point where the script ensures you are caught anyway and have to fight off multiple enemies you are not equipped to fight in the first place. The combat is terrible and that was so by design, however offering no variety in combat; especially during forced combat sequences is a seemingly unwise game design choice. Ultimately the game is very linear and offers nothing to warrant a replay once finished. The graphics and art is alright, but don't let that fool you, this is a bare bone, modest eye-candy game without much under the hood to satisfy you after a few hours in..
