A Decent Roguelike That Lacks Replayability.

Things I Like About Pairs & Perils:
The Memory Pair-up Game
Flip the two same cards, and it will always be your round.

A simple card-flipping game which you deal damage or cast spells by flipping and successfully pairing up the cards. If you cannot pick the right cards, enemies' attack cool-down will advance.

Every start of the round the game will briefly show you each card before flipping them over. This means that you are completely safe as long as you have a good memory and keep pairing up cards.

Hero cards offer a variety of damage and survivability, some even specialize in revealing more cards. Spells are your main tools for debuff and stalling enemies. Items in the backpack are mostly for healing or additional effects for your abilities.

There are some interesting synergies between cards interaction. For example, buffing a hero card will always highlight both cards, making it easier to tell them apart from traps.
Things I Dislike About Pairs & Perils
Problems Regarding Replayability And Others

Each run has little variation between each other. The layout of the stage feels similar in every run, even the enemy team comp feels the same. There are also no special events or other points of interest.

"Reshuffling after three pairs" this mechanic is weirdly exploitable. The game always shuffles the three pairs you flip back into the location you flipped them unless you have more cards. So you can just keep flipping those cards and completely ignore the whole deck.

On the same note, adding more cards into your deck is actually way more detrimental to your run. More cards mean you have more things to memorize. You already have a good and safe shuffle loop in the beginning, so there isn't much incentive to increase the deck size.

This is just my hot take. Taking away the "show and memorize" part of the game is a bad way to handle difficulty. Difficulty should be based on what you have taught the players so far, and ramp up the obstacles allowing less room for mistakes. Straight up removing what is essentially a part of the mechanic feels cheap.

Seems well made, and I typically enjoy this type of game, but I just can't get into this one. It's not fun to play and just seems too repetitive after a single game.
