Playing this 31-year-old kids' game, I am reminded that, not only does the soundtrack bang, but also, I now believe that Fatty Bear's Birthday Surprise is behind a nightmare I had when I was 4 or 5 years old, which I still remember because it scared the shit out of me. In the dream - like in Fatty Bear - an anthropomorphic bear character was walking around a house, but unlike Fatty Bear, this dream-bear tripped and his fucking foot came off, which, of course, was terrifying to me at 4/5 years old. Fatty Bear's aesthetic and the basic theme of a bear walking around a house at night reminded me way too deeply of this 27+-year-old dream, and I did play point-and-click games a LOT as a kid, so I think I'm on to something. Final note, Fatty Bear's face in the game is unintentionally kinda scary, his eyes are just little white dots, it's like they're sucking out my soul.
+ the soundtrack is fire
+ vibey nostalgic visual/pixel art
+ you can compose music at the piano
+ you can create eldritch horrors with a head of lettuce
+ you can write slam death metal lyrics on a birthday cake
- the cake recipe is kind of ass. all this effort, pulling an all-nighter, and yet Kayla is going to have the most mid birthday cake ever. what was it all for, Fatty Bear?
