This game clearly stands out as a comprehensive & engaging political simulator, offering people like myself who are deeply interested in world politics a bit of entertainment.
I think my favorite part about this game is that I don't have to sit around for many hours and play through a long and tedious story mode, but rather can just pick my side and jump right in.
The customization features are somewhat limited, but the candidate avatars are just enough to get the job done in terms of presentation - which I later discovered that they were used at the end of the game in a wonderful way.
Based on the store page description and screenshots, I wasn't really sure if I was buying a political strategy game or a card game.
Honestly, it's a bit of both. There seems to be two different types of cards, some are worth points for a category and the others are used to trigger in-game events?
In my campaign, the cards that were commonly dealt to me were Advertisements and Debates. These came up quite often, and I found myself enjoying the struggle to keep my approval ratings high enough.
I wasn't sure exactly how high they needed to be, but considering they started at fifty percent, I figured that if I could get them slightly higher than that by the end of the game, I'd probably be doing pretty well.
The entire election seemed to take around thirty of forty minutes, just the perfect amount of time before things drag on too long. I was satisfied with the different screens. It was nice to see the progression of my campaign as new polls were released and it seemed some cards even allowed me to control when a poll releases.
Finally, at the end of the game, I was not really expecting anything special, but this developer spared no expense. The end-game presentation was fantastic and similar in quality to what you'd see on an election night in real life. I was filled with joy as I hovered the swing states to check the results and intently watched the clock awaiting the next projection.
I really thought I was going to win too, and it turns out I just didn't perform well enough.
A tough loss, 270 for the other candidate, and 268 for myself.
I've been apart of some losing battles, but this one stung. I'll be giving it another go soon, but I must let the emotions die down first. This thirty minute campaign cycle scarred me, but in a good way.
So what do I say about the game?
Should you spend fifteen dollars on American Election Simulator?
It's a big yes from me.

I'm a political scientist, so I'm always on the lookout for a good election game. But this takes the worst aspects of the horse race and leaves policy and most of the campaign strategy out of the equation entirely. We can't even specify our candidate's platforms or figure out which issues to prioritize where (everything depends on the point value of cards drawn). I can't recommend in good faith.

This is such an easy and compelling game! Love it! Just a few features I'd like to see:
- giving the states a custom number of EVs;
- choosing battleground states.
In overall, get it while the discount offer is still there! 😄

Fun. You have to learn when and how to play the cards correctly. Beware of the mystery cards at the start of your turn! I lost my turn 3 times before learning my lesson. I was very nervous during the last game it ended up being Georgia saved the election for me. The game kept it suspenseful all the way up till the last state. The result came to 271 to 267.
If you enjoy political games on steam I suggest you get this game especially with it being on sale right now. The game doesn't have a lot of reviews but worth the buy! Easy and straight forward to play. I am a tough critic, But this game won me over. Thumbs up from me. Good job FlagmanJeremy!
