An excellent expansion, covering an often neglected timeframe. Its smaller thaters are excellent to learn the many subtleties of AJE (which is IMHO the best roman-era set strategy game available on steam, and by far), while providing a lot of enjoyment and a fair degree of challenge. Its only minor fault lies in the fact that, attempting to follow strictly the events as these happened, it is quite predictable in the first turns. It also should be noted that campaings are never really symmetrical, so the difficulty level change slightly if playing as Rome or as Rome's enemies.

If you're new to Alea Jacta Est, and the grand campaigns of the base game seem a little intimidating to you, this expansion pack is a great way to learn the game on a smaller, more condensed scale. Three of the scenarios take place just in the Italian peninsula, so you don't have to jump right in to managing vast swathes of territory like you do in the Caesar vs. Pompey or Marius vs. Sulla campaigns. There is also the massive (and long) First punic war campaign, as well as the mercenary war campaign in which you don't have the option to play as Rome at all. They're all great imo.
