I bought this game after watching the Quicklook on Giantbomb. My wife has always been funny about collecting all of the coins if we play a Mario game so I thought the way this game goes over the top with it would be enjoyable. The first world is pretty simple to do but the next ones are significantly more challenging. The game is definetely simple but I wouldn't call it easy! We tried out the 4 player multiplayer last night and it worked really well, I don't see anything balance wise that needs to change. No problems with controller support, you can do everything in the game from a controller. The only thing you can't do with a controller is exit the game - you have to push the escape key on the PC, but that's not really a big deal. The power-ups are of varying usefulness from what I can tell at this time. Invincibility is the only one that I think could use some work- it is not terribly obvious that you are invincible and I found it hard to tell when it was going to run out. The grenade launcher and 'drill cannon' shoot in an arc which can be annoying if you want to hit something directly in front of you - I have found myself avoiding using them. The machine gun, when upgraded, is the best power up in my opinion. Also regarding upgrades, I have found that an upgraded fireball will go through solid walls which can be helpful when trying to kill enemies in the later stages. In the end, I think this is a great game well worth the money. I know it is selling for $15 now, I think I bought it on the initial sale for $12 or something like that. The single player is enjoyable and is definetely challenging and the multiplayer works great. As I continue to play with friends I will update if I notice anything I think needs to change.

This game feels like something you'd play on the GBA. There's a lot of polish, it's easy to pick up and play, it's colorful, and it has catchy music. It might be hard to find someone to play multi with, but for what it's worth, the single player is actually pretty fun by itself.

all the sudden there's more local multiplayer games than i have time for...i think this one is one of the best. if you liked duck game, but found yourself wishing you could cause your opponents to lose their money and also steal money from them, then this.

Fun and short little platformer. Nothing super outstanding about it. I would not have paid 15 bucks for it. I picked it up on sale. Definitely worth it if you can pick it up for a few bucks, but don't waste a lot of money on it.

EDIT : I just finished it and was abruptly disappointed by the length of the game, still worth it for a buck and a half on special but before reading my review be aware that the quality I talked about only lasts for about four brief worlds with a few levels each. Because the map layout is reminiscent of Super Mario World I thought there might be several times as much, so I've finished this in a couple of hours and enjoyed every minute but want more levels please Devs! this and Super Puzzle whatever from Adult swim are absolutely amazing. they have the best of the feel of top tier SNES and TurboGrafx puzzle and platform games but with some obvious capabilities beyond those systems so they also feel a little bit like NeoGeo arcade machines from that era. My play time on here is borked cause I had something come up when I'd left the game paused on the computer last night so I've probably played about 2 hours split between two characters so I can't say yet if Mega Coin squad has any value for replay or actual hours put in before you are finished but based on how much I've enjoyed it so far I can't fault it. the graphic style is of course retro pixel art but not lifted from any one game and the platforming has elements of metal slug, Mario and sonic. the charming style of the game frequently deceives me into relaxing for a bit when actually you need to be on your toes as its fast paced and challenging worth the price I got it for already (1.50 USD on special)

You'll get at least a couple hours of enjoyment out of the single player. Probably more from multiplayer! Simple fun mechanics. Collecting coins has never been so much fun.

A little hard to get used to without key-remapping, but very fun to upgrade yourself, looks very pleasing to pixel-art fans, and plays comfortably. Buy it before it gets delisted.

Charge, hoard and destroy! This polished 2D-Action-Platformer is ruthlessly easy to understand and frantic to play - especially with local friends. Imagine the action-laden gameplay of your typical Mario-Game, spiced up by being able to charge in four directions. Now imagine being almost invulnerable while charging, as well as being able to destroy blocks. By now you should feel very mobile and with new exciting combat-options to explore. This fun can be combined with up to three friends in four different, yet equally entertaining modes of competitive multiplayer. While this game isn't heavy on content and extras by any means, it really struck me and my friends by its quality: the gameplay feels fresh, well balanced and highly dynamic, the presentation feels coherent and quite stylish, the menus are very easy and effective to navigate. If you like your games to to be fun, direct, unique and with a little challenge, you should get this game.

The 1000 multiplayer matches achievement is a sad joke. Especially considering there's only local multiplayer.
