This is a journey through the surprisingly great and varied music in the A-Train Series.
SIDE A begins with music tracks from A-Train 5 and starts off on a very strong note with the A-Train 5 main theme. The entire A5 soundtrack is magnificent and of extremely high quality, being performed by a live orchestra! After the beautiful main theme, the fourth track "Siciliano" stands out again with its absolutely beautiful composition, making it sound like a real italian opera (without the singing)! Absolutely stunning content for a "railroad simulation game". Unfortunately the A5 soundtrack is a bit short (only 6 tracks) but it is absolutely worth it. The last track from A5 "After Parting Ways" could be the most beautiful "Game Over song" in videogame history.
SIDE A continues with more classical and jazzy tracks, as well as some rockabilly and other genre. Standouts include "Drinking on a monday", "Yellow Wave", "Second Moon", "The road not taken" and "Don't forget to smile" among others. These tracks do not feature the incredible beauty of the A5 soundtrack, but they still offer a great production quality overall and some very memorable melodies. This part is what I feel sounds mostly "typically A-Train", if that makes any sense.
From track 23 onwards, SIDE A continues with the A6 soundtrack. Once again some memorable melodies and music tracks that fit the game nicely, featuring more tracks with classical guitars, piano and other fitting instruments. My personal favorite tracks from this game are: "Doors", "Owls" and "Morning Mist".
Tracks 31 to 37 (I think) feature music exclusive to A-Train 2001, with my personal standout being "Woman on the Town 2001", which is an incredibly beautiful Saxophone track.
The rest of SIDE A contain the soundtrack of A7, with (again) some beautiful compositions that beg to be performed by live performers but unfortunately are recorded with digital instruments. My personal standouts being "Myriad Shades of Time" and "Woman on the Town" (a jazz style re-recording of the amazing A-Train 2001 track).
Overall, SIDE A features 46 tracks and walks you through the musical history of that part of the A-Train Series, from A-Train 5 to A-Train 7. If you are a fan of the series, this is a must buy. I recommend waiting for a sale, as the regular price seems a bit steep.
