I have been eyeing this game for a while before I finally bought it on sale. It was definitely worth it at the lowered price. As for the standard price, there are some things that give me pause... but honestly, I spent far more money on games I didn't enjoy nearly as much. People complain about the length, and it's true that the game is quite short and simple. It also suffers from some bugs, but being short and simple means they really don't hurt as much as they would in a bigger, more complicated game. The story feels complete and the gameplay is pretty fun. Most importantly, and this is admittedly an extremely subjective point, it is utterly hilarious. I've been chuckling all the way through it. I'm not sure what to compare its sense of humour to, exactly; maybe some of the better 90s American satirical cartoons? But I'm far from an expert on those. Anyway, if you were on the fence like I was, I strongly recommend giving it a try. Also try it if you like the idea of bringing gratuitous violence and/or compassion to silly people in ridiculous outfits.

Prooobably the best-written game I've played. Has a strong Archer feel to it. The conversation mechanism is really interesting, but I'm not ashamed to admit that I beat up everyone in the game.

Honestly, it controls like a paraplegic, there's no gamepad support, it's got the production values of a 2004 Newgrounds flash game, the dialogue has weird sentence structures as well as grammatical errors and there was at least one bug I've found that halted progress with a side-quest.... But, I still loved it. The dialogue's hilarious and unique. The game just grows on you after ~20 minutes.

Really interesting dialogue mechanic, unlike anything I've seen before. Hilarious moments all throughout the game. Since it's Steam, you'll see a lot of people bashing the game mechanics in an attempt to feel like they're discerning, when in fact they don't know their dick from their nose.

It's clear Will Fight For Food had a lot of care put into it, but it's just underwhelming. The writing is enjoyable and can be funny, with the Koalaman parts being the standouts for me. But the gameplay is lacking. For fighting you have three attacks that can be used as combos, and that's it. All enemies are almost identical in how they fight. Regardless of health or speed or attack animation, they run towards you and hit you in the face. So you mash those buttons to hit them in the face. Real simple stuff. Then there's the converation system. I do like the effort put into something new, but it can be annoying as you only have an idea of how Jared will say something rather then what he'll say. I guess it's sort of the point to show how weird Jared is, but there were times that some options were the correct ones, and I wasn't really clear on why. So if I were you, get it while it's on sale.

It's alright for the price. I didn't expect too much and wasn't disappointed. Fun and easy to play with just enough depth.

I purchased this game on a whim as I was looking for a simple beat 'em up type of game, but then I read that, if you wanted, you could play it RPG style...and that just sealed the deal for me. It's fun and the humor is witty and hilarious...there's even some Dr Who jokes for the Whovians out there ;) Seriously, it's not a big flashy triple A game with super graphics and an immersive storyline that will make you feel all the feels. It's a damned fun and funny game. You cannot go wrong at the price of 5.99. The only thing I would like is controller support but I heard that is coming so....sweet.

So I will start off by saying that while I do recommend this game, I don't recommend it at full cost. I know the developer worked hard, but it's just not worth the $6.00 for full price. I got it for less then a dollar, and I feel maybe $1 or $2 is worth it. That being said, what is it exactly? It's a very odd game. The best way to describe it is as a beat 'em up adventure game, where you have a choice between beating people up, or actually resolving problems peacefully. Peaceful resolutions are achieved through a surprisingly deep conversation system, where you need to pick your tone and attitude to give them a high opinion of you and convince them to listen to you. Alternatively, you can just attack them, using your three moves; a punch, a kick, and a shoulder charge. And it's not limited either. While you can only engage in deep conversation with certain NPCs, and have regular conversations with everyone else, you can litterally beat the crap out of every NPC in the game. There is a loot system in the game, as you gain items from clearing your objectives. You end up having three stats; attack, defense, and speed, and the items will vary the values in different ways. Although, if you're not planning on being in combat all the time, it's usually a good idea to keep your speed up while walking around, and then if the item you want to use for combat lowers the speed, put it on before the fight. If your speed is low you will be very very slow at walking around. The writing in the game is great, as its a parody of professional fighting/wrestling, considering your main character is a former world champion, who gets the equivelant of the Montreal Screwjob, and then takes off for at least a year. Upon coming back he decides to reconnect with his old rivals, who have taken up various odd jobs around the city. You need to deal with all of them and then you end up with the, uh, very bizarre finale. It took me two hours to get through the game, but I only got 17 achievements since most of them are attacked to different paths and choices. There are also four difficulty settings, from Easy to Insane, and I played on Normal. These difficulties are just for bragging since they have no associated achievements. There is also apparently modding capability, but no one has really bothered with it as of yet. Overall, it's not a bad game. It's funny, and a unique concept. As said before I can't recommend it at full cost but on sale you will definetly get your worth out of this 'game of the hour'.

Is 84 minutes with a snack break thrown in worth $5? WFfF reminds me of the flash games I used to play back in the early 2000's. As I remember them, they had a charming, if not minimalist art style, interesting or zany premises and usually did one or two things pretty well for what they were. I think that's a fair generalization of this game. The game starts off as the player character, who is a professional wrestler, shows up drunk to work and is about to take a fall, giving up the championship belt to another wrestler. After a few clicks through the dialogue and it's now the future. The player character is homeless and goes around a city map bumping into his old friends/rivals from the glory days of wrestling in the WFF. Some are just as down on luck as the player character, others have become high ranking officials in the police department of even government. The player will then decide to talk or fight to solve these former wrestlers' problems. Humor is a hard thing to capture in a game because humor is not universal. Something funny to someone can be an annoyance to the next. The humor in WFfF is zany and irreverent so I found myself smirking a couple times while playing the game. It's hit or miss but doesn't seem like it's trying too hard to be funny which is a good thing. The humor serves the dialogue well and the highlight of the game is probably the dialogue system. In certain situations the player will have to convince characters to do things they may not want to do, a screen pops up displaying certain traits about the person the character is talking to and it's up to the player to decide how to tackle the situation. Adopting an agressive style, disagree with the character and do so in a snarky way and the person that needs the convincing may disapprove while assuming a different stance, agreeing with the person and being a little more to the point may be the required combination. It's definitely an interesting and organic way to handle dialogue and when it works, things go pretty smooth, when it doesn't work, I was forced to throw up my dukes and handle things through combat. Combat is a little too simplistic for my liking, even in a game such as this. There are punches, kicks, and a shoulder charge with rapid pressing of these buttons stringing the attacks into a combo which changes the animation a little bit. My issues are the AI isn't that bright and the combat moves don't feel particularly wrestling-esque. AI will often close distance and get within melee range but since this game plays like an old beat 'em up, the characters can sometimes overlap on the x axis and instead of the computer trying to reposition itself, it will swing blindy over and over until the player moves the character around. There's equipment in the game that changes stats such as damage and speed and the different stats do have a visible effect on how fast the character moves or the damage that they do but I only wish that there was a change to the appearance of the character too. I think it would be a little toucht hat goes a long way to show that the developer cared about the little things. There's about 8 locations, a quest or two per map and one of those maps are unlocked once everything else has been solved. The graphics aren't that good with a lot of assets being reused and for some reason there are minigames of sorts that don't amount to anything and aren't very fun. Oh I asked a question in the beginning and for me the answer is no. Those flash games were little time wasters that were occasionally fun but they were free and some of them were really well done with a bunch of little nuances throw in. Will Fight for Food has some good ideas but it doesn't seem much effort is put into the game to make those ideas shine.
