The Caribou Trail Reviews

The WWI story where your goal isn’t to kill, but to survive. In the still trenches, three soldiers learn the harsh truth of war: reckless missions, digging trenches, collecting dog tags and ghostly whispers in the dark. Home before the leaves fall, they thought.

enjoyable war themed story game. could do a better job conveying the profound misery and scale of the gallipoli engagement/disembarkment, but the devs weren't really going for that, so it all good.

Short but I hope we get a sequel taking place in the Western Front and continuing Fish's story. I liked it, well-written, very interactive game but I didn't feel the "horrors of war" from this one. WWI was way more brutal than this game depicts as, but overall I enjoyed the ride. What I really love is the Newfie accents and references of St. John's, I'm very familiar with Canada so this did piqued my interest on that part, Newfoundlanders are for sure a different breed of Canadian.

When I first finished this game I was left wanting more. After the 3 very short hours I felt like the story was just getting started while it was really ending. Now as I sit writing this review, I realized it was not meant to be a very entertaining game. But, it was supposed to inform the player off the horrors the men fighting the war went through and that it was not all exciting battles like other games suggest. It was mainly fighting for your life in sub-par living conditions watching your brothers die. If you appreciate story telling and the art I recommend.

Not nearly a bad game. Story's a bit sappy at some points, but it does have its moments.

Esperienza comunque positiva

A short but, fine game. Set during ww1. I liked that compared to alot of games during this time period, you barely uses you gun. The setting is good and I also quiet liked the atmosphere. I liked the sound effects alot. The dialogue is great between characters. The music is also good I found the story quiet good. The characters too. I like that the game is more about the horrors of the war of what it can do to people. Recommended.

80% + Amazing story about the unsung Canadian soldiers in Gallipoli + Fantastic art style and colour palette + Lots of great characters that bring life to the trenches + Can be played in an evening - Most often a walking-simulator - Characters aren't visibly unique or memorable

Short game with a good story. Made me all teary eyed in the end and I definitely learned a thing or two. Game is mostly story, taking place during the more mundane portions of soldiering, which largely gives it its charm. I'd love to see more titles like this. I think ten dollars is a good price point for something like this. Would recommend for WW1 enthusiasts and story driven game enthusiasts alike.

Absolutely stunning! A nice short 3-hour narrative adventure following three lads from the Newfoundland Regiment, a band of unsung heroes who need this kind of representation. This game will absolutely make you emotional, if not leave you crying. The emotional rollercoaster of joy from becoming attached to these characters, devastated by the hell of The Battle of Gallipoli, seething with rage and revenge, then determined to continue, is something only found in only the best story-driven games. It is short, It is simple, it is A LOT OF STIRRING SOUP (but so worth it for the Fish N' Brewis), but this game will remain in your mind and heart for long after you watch the credits. Absolute 100/10 game, I look forward to supporting these developers again someday!

I found this game to be interesting at first, but slowly but surely felt myself being taken out of the story for the sole fact that I kept waiting for *the next thing* to happen. I understood when purchasing this game that it would primarily be story driven, but I found the story lacking to keep myself invested in continuing to play the game - and with little to no actual interaction in the war aspect of Gallipoli, the story wasn't strong enough. I've seen a lot of jokes in other reviews regarding this being a "stew simulator" and I regretfully must agree. Most of this game is built around you mashing left click and moving your mouse around in circles while characters that you either find annoying or don't care much about yap about their lives. There simply isn't enough for you to do in the game that justifies purchasing it. I think this would've been a wonderful short film or short story, but I'm having a hard time describing this as a "game". Kudos to the voice actors - I thought they performed well.
