If you bought the base game, this adds a ton of new strategic depth.
As an aside, a mod called Renaissance mod requires this DLC, and that mod ads INTENSE amounts of new content to the game, so highly recommend this DLC on its own, and for the free mod.

While this review is marked as not recommended, if you have enjoed base game you would enjoy this DLC too.
I've played this with my friend. We've played on Impossible through new campaign, it took about 300 turns to end, we've never saw more than one AI controlled Mage and it had really hard time dealing with nagas, actually about at 100 turn most of his starting shard was flooded and AI is realy bad at naval combat. Tho nagas are passive, no like dremers for W1 and if left untouched for some turns (about 10 i believe) fountains would explode flooding tiles around(similar to dremer gates explosion, but water does not touch your building, so later on it does not matter at all, cause all your units would water-walking buffed or levitating). It took about 200-230 turn to set up reliable base on 1st and second shard, at 250 turn I've reached Ainadra, so you imagine that steamroll through 3-4 shards, only 4 heroes(2 basic, one 2nd tier and one legendary). 1st attempt at boss failed, we've lost mine friend's healer and my 2nd tier hero. Thus decided to resurrect my vampire lord and crafted an artifact for my legendary hero, raising him to 150 damage. Then we easily beat boss, the end.
My friend played Nagas and I was playing Arethi. While nagas benefit from enemy flooding, they've issue that lords don't swim so until you research water-walking/flying stuff(permanent ones) it would be difficult to use lords. My friend lost alot of them just when transporting and enemy spawning, so he could not even react. For land-based ones life is easier, cause raise terrain is realitively early spell, and you could easily power-level your lords.

--Played time is shown in the base game not this dlc--
Putting aside the recommendation for the base game. ( Buy if on sale or if you dont currently own the original) I would recommend this DLC to those who own it.
A new race offering a differing playstyle. New great mages, 2 new available lords and a new campaign. The base game had some stability issues but I have had none so far since coming back to the game and trying this dlc.
There are a few quirks like the portal messages spamming every turn while your in their vicinity and the living world biome can be a little "busy" visually. But generally I am enjoying it and thats the main thing.
Here is a current playthrough of the DLC thats in progress:

This is a good concept but was implemented very poorly. I don't understand why founding a naga city converts surrounding land to water; founding a regular city doesn't turn surrounding water to land. This imbalance renders the game largely unplayable.

Unbalances the game severly. AI doesn't know how to deal with the Naga faction. Any city founded by the naga, all land around said city is turned to water except in a few instances (specials/enemy units). Non-naval units are easy prey. There are no monstar lairs that spawn on the water. So if you turn land to water........
It's pointless to have heroes, they can't swim. and nagas don't build harbors. Takes too long to research water walking or levitation.
I just razed every non-naga city I captured. Makes the game pretty easy to win. Oddly, there are no free Naga cities in the game ever, just always the basic races. Also the AI never uses this faction, it's always the default races, even when I selected as my enemy the Naga mage.
This DLC does come with one campaign. The first naga boss I encountered had 150hp and a range of 3 and randomly stuck 3 units anywhere on the mainland map. So every few turns, 3 of your units die. I guess they couldn't figure out how to make the AI better. Once in a while a lair or two with 2 nagas appears in your territory (that is unless you have no water tiles), but they just sit around waiting to be killed. And yet they couldn't add this to the base game so that atleast some kind of lair spawns in the water?
No game bugs were fixed by this expansion.
Definitively not worth the price, best get it on sale.
Seems more like a cash grab then anything else.
