Review of Extra Extra Poison
Rating: ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ The Story Behind Extra Extra Poison In 2004, a local movie theater went out of business, leaving their employees without a job. Not long after the closure, a former employee named Bernard Jays opened his own movie theater in 2005, Bernard Cinemas, which quickly became a success. Known for its support of independent films and its fresh popcorn butter, the theater became a staple in the community. However, during the theater’s early years of prosperity, thousands of employees who worked on making the butter were exposed to a mysterious "Poison" and became infected. As the virus spread, employees began reporting symptoms like fever, a god complex, yellow skin, and yellow blood. Despite many dying from complications, Bernard Cinemas continued its operations without a hitch. The company’s reputation remained unscathed, and donations kept pouring in. Even though many employees were falling ill and dying, the theater stayed open, and the unfortunate continued to apply for work. In 2018, when Bernard Cinemas reached a billion-dollar milestone, the company finally acted. They developed a vaccine, Cell Disc, to combat the Poison. From that point onward, every new generation of employees had to take the Cell Disc vaccine. Those who survived the one-hour curing process were rewarded with overtime and, of course, free movies. Today, the vaccine continues to save employees, giving them a second chance to live and serve Bernard Cinemas forever. Gameplay Overview Extra Extra Poison is a strategy board game where players must vaccinate employees and cure their infections. The game features 20 unique immune system fields—one for each employee—and your goal is to cover more space on the immune system than your opponent to get the highest score. You fight off the infection, trying to block it from spreading too much and complete your task before time runs out. It’s a simple game with a basic, yet interesting concept. As you play, you will unlock achievements, and as a bonus, secret quotes from the employees are revealed, adding depth to the narrative. The gameplay loop is minimalistic but engaging, and while the random elements can introduce a bit of unpredictability, the game remains fair and fun to play. Visuals and Sound The visuals of Extra Extra Poison are clean and functional, fitting the simple style of the game. Although it doesn’t feature detailed graphics, the minimalistic design is well-executed and adds to the charm. In terms of sound, the game is fairly minimalist, with simple sound effects that don’t distract from the gameplay. It’s a straightforward, functional audio design that helps to maintain the pacing and feel of the game without overwhelming you. Controls and Support The game doesn’t support controllers natively, but this isn’t a major issue. Steam offers an easy workaround by allowing players to enable controller support in the settings. This will emulate mouse and keyboard controls onto the controller, which is all that is needed to navigate the game. Since you mainly just need to move around and click things, no complex configuration is necessary. Final Thoughts Extra Extra Poison is a quirky, engaging strategy game that has a lot of charm despite its simplicity. The combination of the unique, bizarre storyline and enjoyable gameplay makes it stand out. It’s a short but satisfying experience, making it a perfect pick for anyone who enjoys strategy games with a bit of humor and dark storytelling. Very cool and interesting game, fully worth it!
