Nota final: 8.

Finally played this classic from start to finish! I've loved the RE2 & RE4 remakes, and had fun playing through RE5 & RE6 co-op, but never actually completed the first one!
It's an amazing experience that really makes you think about what items to take and where you're going, planning the best route possible... zombies are tough and you have to carefully choose which ones to kill and which ones to avoid, knowing you don't have enough resources to fight against all of them (at first, at least...). The mansion is such an iconic map! The fixed-camera makes it extremely more tense than the other games and adds an artistic charm that I adore.
The story is also the most solid imo, loved the Trevor backstory and the original cast's dynamics. It's campy and dialogue is sometimes ridiculous but it's charming and the atmosphere is so strong that you go along with it.
I hope it gets the good remake treatment that RE2 & RE4 had, because it'd be amazing to explore this place again through an over-the-shoulder camera, with an expanded story and more developed character interactions. Pair it up with an option to use fixed camera angles too, and you get an unrivaled masterpiece!

Jill is on meth and goes on fun adventures in directions you don't want her to go in. She is still lovable despite this. Or perhaps... because of it?

The ink ribbon system was honestly not even that bad, I always had more than enough ribbons to save when I felt like it, but it was always at the back of my mind that I can't just save spam.
The fixed cam is okay when it works and the worst shit ever when it doesn't.
You will walk into enemies that you can't see, get mauled from offscreen, accidentally walk back into enemies because it does a 180 or just straight up get lost in a straight hallway.
The inventory system is something I can't quite understand was to why it was implemented.
It is beyond annoying to be forced to constantly make trips to the item boxes in order to put in/take out quest items.
Having guns and ammo be a seperate inventory would have greatly improved the gameplay experience.
The door animation got old quick, having to redo the last 15 minutes again because the camera fucked me over in the tunnel was probably the most "horror" moment I had with this game.
I understand that this is a classic, but it's just too dated for me to be able to recommend this.

I had a hard time with the game, because I don't have a particularly good memory and I am bad at puzzles. But at the same time, it is fairly spooky and if you're good at puzzles, it might be fun. All though being able to carry only six items does really suck, you have to backtrack all the time.

This port is VERY BAD. It has a bug that locks the internal rendering at very high even if you put graphics and resolution on low, making the game lose a lot of FPS and become slow on weak PCs. There was a fan patch to fix this but CAPCOM edited the game to make the patch stop working.
So what you should do is play the GameCube version on Dolphin Emulator. I put the emulator version in 1080p with graphics set to max and the FPS never drops. This Steam version has FPS drops even on low 720p. I paid for the game but have to use an emulator, thanks CAPCOM.

Easily the best game in the Resident Evil franchise
People are quick to shit on it for the awkward camera angles but it adds to the claustrophobic feel to the game and adds more to the Horror feel. It's also more difficult than others, making you feel more like a well off survivor rather than a super hero (provided you play on the right difficulty)
I used to play this game on xbox one so my hours don't accurately reflect on here 3

Resident Evil 1 was amazing. Jill and Chris stories are amazing. Well, it's the same story, but in different ways and it has many endings. The graphics are gorgeous. The gameplay style is a classic and feels different gameplay than other Resident Evil. Like RE4 (2005) - RE4 Remake. I never played any other classic Resident Evil with that style before. I did play RE0 before this. The puzzles are satisfying and confusing. Amazing classic horror game and I do enjoy it. I hope Resident Evil 1 Remake happens in the future. 10/10
