Graphics are great for 2025 for a game that came out in the early 2000s. Also a pretty scary game for not being in 1st person.

I have only played two hours or so of the game and I'm already loathing it. I have a strong respect for the Resident Evil game title and all the cool things it has done for the survival horror genre, but respect doesn't mean I have to actually like the original game itself.....it just doesn't flow well with me. I know many gamers hate the janky controls and weird camera angles in-game, but I did get use to them after 15 minutes or so. What got me was the wandering about looking aimlessly for items to open doors; to continue the journey. Walking backwards and forwards between rooms and load screens really got old fast. Finding an arrow and not knowing I could disassemble it to move the story on was frustrating. I don't like having to resort to guides over small stupid issues that completely stall game progress. I might retry this game another time and re-post a review, but prob not.

Literally one of the greatest horror games ever made. I love the dated graphics, they add to the atmosphere so well.

A good chunk of my time in highschool was dedicated to this game. I speedrunned the game multiple times on different modes. Getting weapons after completing achievements feels super rewarding, and the challenges themselves were fun to do. Movement feels old (if that makes sense) but fun to use on the D-pad. Enemies are an actual threat that you have to plan out on how to survive through the rest of your run. Unlocking new rooms feels fun, idk why, and clearing them out is a reliever. You can switch characters that have different "perks". Different endings. Interesting story. I mean the list really goes on and on for this game. Controller recommended for this masterpiece of a game from Capcom, 10/10

I've never played any Resident Evil game before, but I've heard a lot about it. When Steam had discounts, I decided to buy the very first part and play it. At first I didn't understand the controls a bit, but then I got into it. The game is very interesting. I like that it's not just a scary horror, but a lot of different puzzles. I'm looking forward to buying the next RE parts!

insane for a 2002 game, a bit too hard for someone who grew up playing the newer resident evil games, but a very very good game regardless.

Resident Evil is one of the scariest games I have played. The game isn't scary because of some monster, or environment (although it has both), what makes this one fo the scariest horror games I've played is the save system. This game does not have autosave. What it does have, is a limited amount of saves, and if you don't know where you are going, how long the game is to beat, the areas you need to go to and the items you need to collect, this game can be a tough experience for newcomers. I myself had to restart my save a few times. Especially since you don't know how many saves you will get on a first playthrough. Which is honestly why I recommend playing on easy mode for your first playthrough, that, and for the love of god, please use a guide! This a weird game to review. You see, the combat isn't all that great. You are expected to play using tank controls (which is another scary idea) but thankfully, they added in an alternate control scheme where your character moves based on camera rather than character. To beat this game, you need to be resourceful. You need to be careful how to use your ammo, whether you should kill enemies or not and know when and where to save. If you try kill every enemy in this game, you won't make it past the halfway point before you have run out of ammo and have to fight a boss. Even worse, dead zombies can come back to life as "Crimson Heads" which are much harder to kill and get around. Zombies only stay dead permanently if you burn them, but you have a limited amount of inventory slots as well. This game is set up to give you a hard as time as possible. And it is still a very fun game once you get the hang of it. It does have a great story. And even the sideplots are fantastic as well, especially the Lisa subplot. This game is a direct upgrade of the original PS1 Resident Evil in every way. While I do wish there was a mode where saves were not limited, one of the biggest problems this game has are the loading animations. You are in and out of rooms every ten seconds or so, but there is a 5 second loading screen between each door. There is a mod that makes these timers non-existent, but I wish it was in the main game. Overall, a great survival horror. Hard for people new to the genre but very fun once you get the hang of it.

Still a great revisit many years later. The RE Engine remakes all feel the same, not that it is a bad thing, but this is by far the unique pick of remakes. Still waiting for a CV remake, Capcom, remaking 1 again is a ridiculous needless move when you already have such masterpiece out.
