This product barely works.
It lists "Windows 10 or higher" in requirements section - yeah I don't think so. I was greeted with a "Severe Exception! Error Code 16013" when I first launched it. The only way to bypass this was to a. disable Steam overlay as that game seems to hate it, b. set compatibility mode to Windows XP SP2 and c. keep verifying game integrity from time to time. Even then, I can't get it to launch consistently as it tends to get stuck during start up!
If you persevere (as I did) and manage to get into the game, you are in for a treat and it's not the good kind. You are some knight in a square dark room trying to open a door by solving puzzles. There is infinite enemy spawn to make your life difficult and you are on a timer - when the timer or your health bar runs out, it's game over.
The difficulty increases -as you progress through the main puzzle- by adding new enemy types, but overall they are very slow and easy to beat or outrun. Well, that's until you are faced with the greatest adversary in this game: no, not the fire Minotaur or the stone hand; it's the bloody platforming section. Never in my live have I experienced worst jump controls in a video game! Not only is Johnny knight extremely stiff, he also has this tendency to clip through the platforms and lose precious life in the process.
This is not helped by the atrocious performance and frame rate. I don't have exact figures because Sir Quest is allergic to steam overlay, but I would say it is capped at 30FPS. I say capped not locked since the game manages to slow down on a regular basis. I mean, have you seen the state of the graphics? It's PSX at best.
Under these circumstances, platforming becomes extremely frustrating, and you can forget about using a controller. There is mention of Joystick support in Options menu, but I could not get my PS4 controller to work. And since steam overlay is not an option, you are going to be stuck with wasd, space and mouse.
To add insult to injury, you are accompanied throughout this adventure by a small infinite loop of some joyous Greek music theme. That track would be quite fitting in a tourist trap type of restaurant, but not in a dark Greek temple where you solve deadly puzzles and fight endless hordes of skeletons and automaton warriors. Suffice to say, it gets old and annoying quite fast.
The game is a single level by the way and I finished it. There is supposed to be replayability as quest items/puzzles are randomly placed in the room at the start of each game, but the gameplay is so bad it's not worth it. I will soon be adding a video in community section if you want to get a feel of one playthrough (poor performance, platforming hell and all).
Game is buggy as well - for example: a quest item may not spawn (fountain pieces to be specific); resolving final colour coded puzzle may not trigger the stone hand; cannot interact with green coloured flask on main puzzle when green is clearly the correct choice.
In conclusion, I absolutely do not recommend this game and I don't think they should be charging money for it given its current state i.e. the startup problems and performance issues. There are small free indie games on Steam that put this title to shame, so look for those instead.
