Very Ace Attorney-esque, characters are very fun and story is engaging. English translation can be a bit rough, but it isn't too disruptive to understanding most of everything going on.

I really like it, I haven't finished but so far the game mechanics are really clear, and the story settings are very firm. I really love the gameplay design, and how characterizations are!!!

Played on the Steam Deck in English with mostly no issues. In the investigation section, you do have to use the cursor which is only a minor inconvenience. Love the game and really happy that this team chose to localize it. While there are grammatical and spelling errors, I can see the effort on the part of the translation team to keep the humor and puns. It is definitely completely playable in English. If you like Ace Attorney and "attorney-likes", this is in the same vein. The cases are fun, challenging enough, and all link together. The last case is very well done with new game play mechanics, but mostly nothing new if you've played other similar games. The length of the game is around 30-35 hours. There is some voice acting (in Chinese) which good when present. One thing that I do love about the game is the attention to detail. For example, you can show your attorney badge to almost everyone in every case with unique responses. There are also changes to static locations when examining them in different cases or with different playable characters. There are some characterization and narrative nitpicks (similar to AA), but ultimately, it's a great game and very true to the AA format. I would recommend it to anyone trying to scratch the AA itch. I hope to see more from this team. TDLR: I have played all the AA titles and countless "attorney-likes". - Is it perfect? No. Translation needs some polish. There are some issues with characterizations and narrative. - Is it worth playing if you love Ace Attorney? Yes. - Is it worth the money? Yes. Great art, great gameplay (if you love AA), good story, appropriate length.

Trials of Innocence is a great entry in the canon of Ace Attorney-like games. It doesn't innovate on the formula too wildly, like Tyrion Cuthbert, but its interconnected plot and light sci-fi elements make it stand out. The story follows rookie defense attorney Luna Ray (and her mentor Charlie Drake, who is occasionally the perspective character) as she takes on a series of cases that have ties to an event she, Charlie, and the game's two prosecutors experienced five years ago. Each of these cases adds characters to the supporting cast who appear in subsequent cases, which makes the world feel more real and connected. Also, the cases are all high quality. Surprisingly, the second and third are the standouts, since those are often the lowlights in similar games. The fourth and fifth cases suffer from a bit of overlongness,—especially the former because it basically has an entire other case sandwiched between its first and second days—but have exhilarating twists and thrills that make their flaws negligible. The best part of Trials of Innocence is actually its gameplay and mystery writing. For me, it almost always straddled the line of being challenging, but not too difficult or obtuse. Sometimes, I was able to theorize and realize the truth of some small mysteries within a case, while other times, I was surprised by the truth and could only follow the reveal step by step. There were some frustrating gameplay moments: for example, I didn't realize for a long time that there was a way to see the defense discuss a testimony as a whole (the cross-examination UI is slightly different than most other Ace Attorney-like games). Overwhelmingly, viewing those segments was unnecessary and they just provided subtle hints about what to focus on in the testimony, but at one point it was necessary to proceed, and it took me pressing every button to realize that I was able to do that. However, those frustrating moments were few and far between, at most once per case. Lastly, the Chinese to English translation is typical of a Chinese VN, which is to say, not good. There were abundant subject-verb agreement issues, various other grammatical issues, and phrases that, while not grammatically incorrect, just did not sound native. Also, for some reason the apostrophes all have a double space after them. Interestingly, some characters with unique speech patterns sounded more natural: one an overly formal speaker, and one an overly casual speaker. Perhaps those tone constraints led the translator to make more native-sounding translation choices. Still, despite a rough translation and pacing issues in the final two chapters, I greatly enjoyed Trials of Innocence. Its mystery writing, interconnected plot, and realistic-feeling recurring characters make it an easy recommendation for any Ace Attorney fan. 8/10

The game is a true love letter to the Ace Attorney franchise, and I'd argue it handles topics better than the original trilogy these games referenced. That's no shame to AA either, there's such a long time difference between these two games. Trials of Innocence really shines with its story telling, the mystery aspect of the game was the best part, and I can't wait for more installments of this series. The characters were extremely charming and I fell in love with them all, there were so many questions left at the end of the game as well, so I hope that we get more games!! The twists were at times pretty unexpected, and even if twists were expected, they still felt gut-wrenching (especially the twist at the end, I saw it coming but it didn't make it hurt less!). The game was very-well thought out, I enjoyed it so much. One aspect that others might not care about is how they handled their female characters. I thought the female characters were all extremely well written and I was super happy that Luna was more than just an assistant. Tessa was amazing, I loved Annie, Stella was really great as well. The male characters shone in their ways too, I absolutely love Drake, an amazing character and I hope we get more on him. Silas was interesting and enjoyable, Siris was fun, etc. I will say, the translation of the game is extremely rough, it really affects the gameplay. The translations in the actual cross-examinations and court scenes are fine enough, but outside of that (especially during investigation), the translations were so poor that I struggled to understand what was being said 80% of the time. This can be avoided through mods and fan-made translations if you're really desperate. Despite that, I have hope for this franchise. I really do hope we get more installments, and I hope that translations will also improve eventually.

This game is VERY similar to ace attorney, sometimes worryingly so, which isn't necessarily a bad thing, but one should keep it in mind before playing. As many people have already pointed out, the english translation is a bit of an issue, but it really only was jarring during the first case and maybe part of the second. I will say the first case is, in my opinion, REALLY bad / stupid, partly because of the translation, but also because of the lesser quality of the mystery and gameplay. However, everything from case 2 to case 5 is near to top tier material, with the last two cases being actual peak in my eyes. One other thing I couldn't really stomach was the confrontation minigame. It all felt really arbitrary and most of the time I had no idea where to attack, so I just randomly chose what I thought was shaky (and therefore I was wrong many times). The story though is a phenomenally good one, very well-told and well-structured. Gameplay was also solid for the most part, excepting the confrontation minigame and aside from that only one or two places where I was stuck because the contradiction that needed pointing out was rather iffy. All this is to say, the game starts out rocky, but afterwards is a very smooth experience all the way to the end, and I'm glad I played it.
