Two decades later (2015 on Steam, the original is 2003), and I still love this game. The nostalgia alone brings me back to it, replaying every mission, retrying all the challenges with new ideas, trying to figure out why the tourists are still a bunch of needy pricks that won't accept the piano as a reasonable entertainment avenue for the hundred ish of them.
Sound and story have always been a big thing for me. The story is great, a rag tag feisty (occasionally useless) band of people that you have to make work together and train them up on tasks in order accomplish the mission. Usually without them dying, but Blackwater Industries has its quotas, and VENUS AND STIG WILL RETIRE WEALTHY, DAMN IT.
Then the sounds. The soundtrack somehow still fills the nostalgia need. I've put a few of the tracks on to sleep to, or just for funsies. Maybe it just hit that right spot of my cochlea at a vulnerable time, but by heavens does it make me smile. Listening to it decades later, and I still feel a giddiness rising up. The gameplay sounds themselves will give me a smile, or a frown, or just curse in general "who broke it now?!"
"-who is on power duty?!" DAMN IT TAMI, I don't care that you want to get paid and eat your goop! I CARE THAT OXYGEN CAN'T WORK WITHOUT POWER. And no more smoke breaks!
