Train Sim World® 5: West Cornwall Local: Penzance - St Austell & St Ives Route Add-On DLC

Due to the yearly TSW release and now TSW5 launch, all previous DLC reviews have been reset so here is a quick personal opinion of each. You can also go and check out the previous reviews on the previous instalments (if still available for TSW2/3/4 ect). Another difficult route to review, a nice scenic route in a nice part of the UK but just has not been given enough justice by its developers Rivet Games. Although some improvements has been made to the route and locomotives over time, the 150 still does not have very good physics and even worst sounds! The additional Steam DLC (sold seperately) for the route does add some enjoyable gameplay for me as a steam enthusiast. Even then I would still recommend this (Just)

Poor visuals and bad route coverage, with ok to good layerings with other routes' locomotives. For me, this is Rivet's 2nd worst TSW route (and add-on) that they made so far. The route coverage is very questionable, even by TSW 2 standards (era when this route was released), being cut in St. Austell instead of Par (station that has a branch so could be for more variety) or Plymouth (end of a lot of services in this line). Now, TSW 2 add-ons normally did tend to have services lasting not longer than 1 hour and St. Austell marks the 1h line from Penzance, but it's still not excusable to cut the route coverage there. The visuals only made it worse and made it seem that this route was clearly rushed, since it's bland, quiet and empty most of the time. Nothing else to say in this regard. Now for the big positive, as I said in the title, it has very good layerings from other DLCs. The more relevant ones that have locomotives layering into here are Blackpool Branches, Northern Transpenine and Tees Valley Line. These layerings make the route feel a bit more busy, which is a plus. Smaller good things that are a little bit less relevant are that the performance is, even with layers, really good and that all the rolling stock that comes with this route was brand new at the time this route was released. Still, these good things aren't enough to save this route from being a bad route. Obviously get it only on a discount and better if it's within a bundle (on Steam at least). Easy thumbs down and a 3.5/10.

Another poorly made Rivet route . Even by TSW 2 or 3 when it came out it had bad scenery by that standard's. Would only get on a big special. Still has bugs not to be fixed that's won't be

A good and fun route in my opinion, but it has its downsides. The Class 150 has rubbish acceleration sounds and the scenery is quite basic in certain areas around the route. Other than that, I didn't come across many other problems and if you have the northern transpennine route and BR heavy freight then those diesels will layer on to this route which is a nice feature. I would suggest 3 things to be added to this route however: 1. A valenta HST gameplay pack in intercity liveries 2. The route extended to Plymouth 3. The Falmouth branch added. So a fairly good route, I would recommend it just not at full price.

I'm sorry, but this is not a finished product and should not be sold in this state. While there are some nice, scenic areas, large parts of the route only have the most basic of scenery details. Buildings and entire towns are lazily placed on plain green terrain - like the devs couldn't be bothered to change the ground textures, at the very least. Empty motorways and roads, and in one spot it looks as if a whole river is missing. That's not okay. Please, update the route or sell it at a vastly reduced price. I bought this at a 60% discount and I still feel ripped off. Maybe at 80% off it's worth it for the rolling stock and for adding layers to other routes. But not like this.

Easily one of the worst ever routes developed for TSW. The Class 150 is a terrible model with atrocious sounds. The Timetable is lacking and the scenery is worse than some Train Simulator Classic 2013 routes. Rivet Games set a standard with this route, the standard being that there is no standard, its really poor.
