none of the girls are likable. The translation is bad (you can't even tell who's who because their names are not translated consistently).

I found this FMV interesting, translation is not the best due to this ended up making wrong choices, it took me 10 hours to get all achievements, I had to restart the game many times when I messed up some important choices.
It's not like the usual dating sims where you get to date all the girls and get different endings with or without them etc. It was hard to end up with the girls, protag has an ability and it can be used to change the situations sometimes it wont help as well. There is a guide as well but in Chinese and that won't be an issue, if finding it hard can check there to get achievements.
Hey so i like this kind of game
but if you are not really into this genre this game is not for you.
This FMV has a lot of issues with it.
The pro's of this game are just the actors in general, the acting is better than in some other FMV's
The cons are
The english translation - to preface its not the worst translation out there but it will still be difficult to understand in some sections + there are text sections when you are in the cat mode that are not translated
The UI - in most of these games you get a branching path tree to see your progress and unlockables in the main menu. However, this game does not have any of those features and the UI itself is incredibly basic even in the settings menu.
The story - you will not be able to follow along the story as an english speaker as it is incredibly convoluted and the character development is really poor just adding random characters along the way with little to no backstory as to why they are there.
Im not telling you to avoid this game. i am enjoying it.
However, only buy it if you are a diehard fan of FMV's or can stand machine translation games.

EDIT 09/29: It seems like the only way to fix the problem of not being able to get pass the title screen is to block off internet connection from running on the game using windows firewall, or simply turn off internet connection and run the game offline. This means that the developer might not fix the bugs in the game since they aren't running the game on a server similar to other fmvs. This also means that you won't be able to unlock achivements for this game anymore.
EDIT 09/27: WARNING! Massive bug suddenly, I can't get past the title screen since the selections are completely missing. People that recently purchased this game also cannot play as well, look at the discussions. DO NOT BUY THE GAME AS OF THIS DATE! You won't be able to play it. I will update the review once it becomes playable. AGAIN DO NOT BUY THE GAME.
This fmv is decent. There are some aspects that make it hard like no rewind, no jumping through timeline, and the choices really reflect on the storyline unlike other fmv where majority of the choices are just pointless. When I mean no rewinds or jumping through a timeline, I mean if you select an incorrect choice you either have to restart the whole story to get to that part again or you just have to live with that choice. There isn't even an affection level indicator so you have to keep track of that on your own.
Now here are some cons to this game:
1) Even though the story is written thoroughly, the production seems very low budget. Like the main characters inner thought voices was really mixed poorly since there's always that echo like you are in an auditorium, gave me a headache. I get that there should be some sort of echo when it comes to inner thought voices but it was echoing like ten times the amount that was needed. The looping of the background music goes by too fast meaning, that the sound instantly loops every 3 seconds instead of giving some sort of buffer to reset. You can't even adjust the music volume, there's only the master volume. That "dora the explorer" mention in one of the reviews I know what they mean now. When the game switches from different scenes for some reason there is that 10 second of dry footage of nothing but the actors doing NPC stuff instead of already switching to another scene. I think I spent 10 minutes in total looking at the dry footage throughout the game. There are times where you could see the reflection of the camera man and when you could hear the director say "cut."
2) Localization was bad, like some english subtitles were missing or poorly mistranslated. For example for one part they were saying thank you in chinese but for some reason they literally wrote "arigoto" instead of "thank you," (that was super random). Some of the choices weren't clear like for example one part said "agree" or "disagree". Like there are multiple people in that situation so who am I agreeing or disagreeing with? There's even a huge issue where there was no translation for important text messages that would make or break if you end up with a certain ending.
Overall if they at least fix the localization and translations for this game then this will be one of the better games to take the time to grind out the completion. I only recommend this if you read and understand chinese for now.

The story is nonsensical, lacks a timeline branch feature that other games in the genre have and audio is pretty terrible with actors voices echoing all over the place.
There's also these very long pauses whenever you have to make a choice leading to actors staring at you as if you were watching an episode of Dora the Explorer

Another day, another month and here comes another Chinese romance FMV game to enter into the fray. "Be Your Cat" (Another rare instance of an accurate Chinese-to-English translation alongside "Director Simulator) features Lee Liheng, a young working professional who after an accident, is forced to transform into a cat for 1 hour every night and goes on a series of misadventures with classmates, friends and colleagues. How does it compare to others in the romance FMV genre?
Warning: There may be some story spoilers ahead!!!!
Pros:
-There is a nice variety to the physical appearances of the female cast, compared to other romance FMV games where sometimes the female love interests could look similar to each other or fit a physical archetype (like cutesy-wootsy and wide doe-eyed 小妹妹 or "Youthful Girl" appearance). I did feel that each female character looked physically distinct from each other.
-Some characters like ex-girlfriend Li Ke feel like real individuals as they make decisions outside of the protagonist Lee Liheng's control or influence such as Li Ke's manipulative scheme of a fake pregnancy to force Liheng to get back together with her. Her dialogue and reactions that tend to start off as polite and then descend into fiery hot temper are some of the more believable aspects of this game.
-Some women like Weng Fei Fei have intriguing stories like her being blackmailed over sexually provocative photos.
-I do like that Lee Liheng's male best friend, Jin Rui En is more involved in the story along the lines of "Love Is All Around's" Lao Liu and makes the male protagonist a bit more believable rather than his only friends being women who are all romantically interested in him.
-The premise of the protagonist being forced to turn into a cat is a novel and interesting idea explored in gameplay.
Cons:
-The various women like Xia Ling and Jin Rui An are all hastily introduced without players experiencing or getting a sense of who they are to protagonist Liheng. Instead of conversations that gradually introduce or develop the women's relationships with Liheng, we get verbal or written expositions from Liheng's actor like Xia Ling being Liheng's university classmate. It's truly a case of going the opposite of "Show, Don't Tell".
-There is no positive nor negative points system, so you have no clue on your standing with the various women are and this can affect whether you can achieve good endings or not (WHICH ARE NOT EASY TO ACHIEVE!).
-While you can make some dialogue choices, I felt that these did not matter most of the time and you were just watching Liheng react and make arguably bad decisions to his romantic misadventures.
-The individual scenes between Liheng and the various women feel disjointed from each other because there's no strong narrative thread tying it. For example, Liheng's supervisor Shuang Ru can disappear completely from the story after a flirtatious home-cooked dinner and no one else brings up where did Shuang Ru go to. (However I must state that Li Ke's and Weng Fei Fei's scenes at least have a narrative tying them together such as Li Ke's schemes to get her ex-boyfriend back).
-Unlike other romance FMV games like "Tomorrow's Love Puzzle" or "Director Simulator" where your choices to go somewhere physically with a particular love interest mattered and excluded other choices, "Be Your Cat" allows you to just bounce around to interact with the various women and it felt like you were just watching Liheng make decisions, rather than seeing your choices play out.
-The audio quality is not great as you can hear in many instances, the actors' lines would echo around the room and sometimes be not easy to hear.
-There is a regular amount of lag, particularly when the choices are loading and this creates hilariously awkward moments when characters would stare at Liheng or do something very unnaturally for uncomfortable periods of time.
-The English translation was evidently done through a translation software without further editing to improve the grammar, nuances and consistency of the translation. This can be seen in Shuang Ru being called "Double Ru" (as Shuang means "double" in Chinese), weird choice of words ("Ahoy" being used for a simple "Yes") or usage of Internet slang ("idk" being used for "I don't know" by Xia Ling). Unintentionally, this became a source of amusement for me, but it can be distracting for people who are genuinely trying to understand the story.
-The whole mystery of Liheng turning into a cat is unexplored and I think a waste, because it would make for an interesting central narrative to tie things together.
-You cannot pause, rewind nor fast-forward to explore other choices. This means you would be forced to do a whole new playthrough to explore the other choices!
Verdict:
I frankly do not recommend this game because of the lack of meaningful impact from the player's decisions, lack of logic on how the endings are achieved and disjointed story and scenes that do not make for a believable nor enjoyable romantic relationship developments. The positive score reviews from Chinese language reviews are a bit misleading, because the content tends to critique on the technical problems, illogical story and some of the other issues I've brought up.
If you are still interested to try "Be My Cat", I suggest checking out scenes on Bilibili to see whether the scenes with the various women interest you before making a purchase. Otherwise, I would suggest others like "Director Simulator" or "Knowledge or Know Lady" which are able to balance absurdity with enjoyable or nice romances.
