An incredibly simple MMO--you click to move, interact and attack mobs, combined with using your number keys to cast buffs and spells, you'll end up spamming 1-2 spells for sustainability and/or damage throughput. I played the original release way back on Kongregate (and even Facebook), so this game carries a LOT of nostalgia for me. Unfortunately this game does not respect your time in a meaningful way. The beginning of the game is the same as the end, you click mobs to kill them and if you have enough armor, mana regen, health regen or spells to heal with, then you kill them. No raids, no dungeons. There are no mechanics, although recently they added debuffs specifically for mobs to afflict to you (only on very late game high level mobs). The only pseudo mechanic is kiting, the act of moving your character such that you attack the mob, but before the mob can attack you (by moving closer to hit you), you move again. The game works a little weird, as a mob will not attack or move if your character is moving the entire time. You can keep this up endlessly, there are videos or proofs of people soloing bosses/high level enemies while undergeared doing this. It's incredibly time consuming and tiring to keep up, kill times are usually 30+ minutes (some are hours). The next time killer is crafting. Crafting is a core part of this game. You can craft armor, weapons, rings and trinkets for your given 'class'. Crafted gear is just better than random loot gear, maybe until very late game where you can hybrid your character a lot more. Crafting takes gold and time. The gold will come by doing quests and selling junk you get, or you can go out of your way and farm mobs over and over for gold. Crafting anything takes hours, literally. Tier 1 is the beginning craft and will take you likely several days if not weeks, given your time availability. What's worse, is by the time you hit the later stages of the game you'll want more than one set of crafted gear. Both cross-gearing for buffs and a second set because even equipping your own classes' gear becomes impossible without having 'buff gear' on (gear to specifically raise your stats to equip gear you otherwise could not equip). Crafting is without a doubt an identity for FO, but the raw amount of time it takes to gather ore, craft them into plates, craft those plates into reinforced plates, find the related gem/pearl for your set, combine those into a shell piece then lastly craft the tier piece is absurd. This is for tier 1/2 by the way. The further tiers are even worse, requiring even more crafting, gold and time. Not to mention the game doesn't tell you to do this, or even how to do this all. You just got to know. Multi-logging (multi-boxxing) is an odd issue. Steam players suffer due to not having webbrowser access and also when you do multi-log as a steam user, it can cause severe performance issues because it runs on chrome. The main issue with multi-logging is at a much later stage of the game it feels necessary to have. Cross-buffing by using alt characters is very very useful and also having an alt be a tank for bossing (and in general for very late game mobs) is insanely game changing. Now tie in the fact you will want to level and craft armor for your alts and you can see how much worse it feels. Gems are the premium currency for FO. As a steam user you get 100 gems for each character after buying the game. After that, the only method to get more f2p is by doing mining dailies. The first one you unlock at level 18. The second is at level 36, then 42, then the last two at 48. Each of these dailies requires mining 5 of the respective nodes in the area, and each reward 2 gems. At most each day you can get 10. These can be done multi-logging to speed up the process, so given all your alts are capable of picking up the quests you can earn 40 gems across 4 characters daily. They are not transferable, so for one character to afford a teleport (40 gems), it would take you 4 days total. There are many teleports, some better than others and you will want teleports if you plan to play often. This is just not good. Level restricted gem acquisition is bad, especially given it takes a while to mine all of ores--this takes away time from you leveling and questing. A bank tab is 200 gems. Battle passes are 100-200 gems. Cosmetics are purely aesthetic. Factions are reputations and given unique armor/cosmetics. Unfortunately while these are cool, they take an absurd amount of time to even rank up. While questing you're likely to hit friendly, enough for the first purchase and equippable item. After that you would have to spend literal hours to go up and up. Just to hit max reputation for the final reward, I'd imagine it would take you several days of non-stop grinding whatever mobs give you the reputation for max rank. Lastly, the newest updates are almost always and exclusively for the end game. Rarely does anything early or mid game get touched. New content is for those already max level and ready to move on. One of the LIMITED time events was for late game players. Content that will resurface next year and only lasts for a few weeks now, is not for new players or even for players who have been playing a little while. This is a massive turnoff, I don't have the time to rush leveling just to get to limited content, massive FOMO tactics. I could go on further, but almost every aspect of this game makes you want to not play. It's actively telling you to stop and play something else. It's heavily pay to win and cash-graby that favors those who sunk money and hours into the game. The discord for this game was unbearable to read, every single person who plays this seemingly wants you to spend even more time doing things. Thought spending 1 hour mining gold for a possible ruby drop was bad? Well the community actually wants it to be worse, because THEY have too many rubies. I genuinely don't see a future where this game will ever have me grasped and playing. I tried it and it was fun while it lasted, but it does not serve the player well. TLDR; simple game, does not respect your time, pay for massive benefits
