Horse Runner DX Steam Charts & Stats

Absolutely lovely pixel art, the horses are well animated and super cute! I really like the environment too! The music is very nice and I enjoy listening to it. The gameplay is well represented in the pictures and description which I greatly appreciate! I have trouble seeing some obstacles because I HAVE to stare at the horses because the moving background bothers my eyes, but I still really like this type of game when I see one. I bought it knowing darn well I might have an issue with the moving background though, so that's on me! :D EDIT: I forgot to mention, making the game smaller on pc seems to help with the issue somewhat for me! Gameplay is a lot of fun and I will definitely be picking this up every so often when I need to pass some time. I really appreciate a game that's easy to pick up and put down when I'm a bit busy.

This game is a ton of fun and very well made. I'm just kind of waiting for achievements to be implemented. If you liked the demo you'll like the main game just as much!

EDIT: The bugs/quirks I talked about in the below review were patched today, so I'm bumping it up to 10/10! Horse run, horse eat apples, horse jump, other horses sometimes whiff it behind you despite copying your every move. 9/10. One note if the dev sees this; I've noticed a lot of what felt like 'unfair' knockouts when going down hills from not being able to jump when i feel I should be able to, almost as if the horse is 'skipping' against the slope like a skipping stone, making it difficult to gauge when you are touching the ground and can/should press the jump button. Not enough to really ruin my enjoyment, but definitely an occurrence that was common and slightly frustrating enough to notice and note. It's a great game, and I can't wait to see what else comes from it. P.S. Maybe make the horses you unlock have a rare chance to spawn from the crates? Just a thought!

Fun endless runner that hearkens back to the early days of smartphone gaming when these little games for a few bucks were actually good quality and not filled with timers and gems and in-store purchases and other awful nonsense. You get a horse and as the screen autoscrolls, you have to jump rocks, ravines, hay bales and the like, while also making sure to jump up and collect apples, the game's currency. At the start of every level you get to purchase another horse with your apples, and they have abilities like +20% apple pick up. That horse then joins your posse, so make it though the next level with both horses intact and you can now have three, four, and so on. Their bonus powers also stack. The game also looks nice, especially once I turned the godforsaken bloom off (me and my homies, we all hate light bloom) and used scanline setting 1 or whatever it's called in the menu (retro effect?). Personally I find the music to be unbearable, but whatever, just turn it off and listen to the sound of the thundering hoofs. It could use achievements but thankfully does have leaderboards. A quality, casual game well worth a few bucks.
