I recommend the game but a few bugs may still hinder you progression, so you may want to wait a few post release patches before buying if you want a smoother experience
(Could still finish the main Storyline of the game but had to close it 2 or 3 times to get rid of annoying bugs.)

Very fun game, as a long time reader i really appreciate the callbacks and even if some of the twists were easy to see, i was curious about how some elements of the story were going to be treated and got a lot of pleasant surprises ^^
Gameplay is very engaging and interesting, only lower notes is some maps and puzzles being pretty difficult to navigate
Avid 100%, i think i ended up overleveling by quite a bit but it shows the game is pleasant in this way and does not feel grindy at all !

Alright, here’s the thing. Maliki: Poison of the Past is one of those games that sneaks up on you. You don’t need to know the original webcomic at all. It totally works on its own. But if you do know Maliki? You're in for a treat.
Yeah, it’s a turn-based RPG, but don’t let that scare you off. There’s this cool timeline mechanic where you mess with the order of actions in battle. Think Chrono Trigger meets Final Fantasy X, with time magic, a little farming, and a whole lot of heart from a French webcomic.
The story hits hard. Starts off all cozy and cute, then gets deep and emotional. Like “wow I did not expect to get teary over this” kind of deep. The characters are super well written, with funny moments and some surprisingly real ones too.
The art? Beautiful. It looks like you’re walking through a comic book. Chill 3D environments, awesome 2D cutscenes. Total eye candy.
The music is fire. Starrysky absolutely crushed it. Whether you’re in a boss fight or just hanging out, the soundtrack sets the mood perfectly. People are literally stopping just to listen.
The gameplay is classic turn-based but with fun twists. There’s also exploration and some light farming. You can get deep into strategy if you want, but it’s also super accessible. Even folks who aren’t into JRPGs are having a blast.
Final word: Whether you love Maliki or just want a fun indie RPG with heart, this one’s worth checking out. It’s not flashy or overhyped, just really solid and made with a lot of love.
If you’re over big-budget games that feel empty, give this one a try. You might end up loving it 💖

Absolutely FAN-FREAKIN' TASTIC game! Literally loved almost every minute of this one. The characters are unbelievably cute, they all have their own unique personalities, the story is very well written and the combat is a blast! The art style is really cool, reminds me Nintendo Wii characters. The music is great, and the music in some zones is just so fitting!
You'll take a journey across time to figure out when and how things went wrong, and must solve numerous puzzles and fight tons of enemies along the way. Combat is turn-based, and it's unique in the way that you can move your characters around on the timeline to set up combos, or heal yourself and gain TP (this is points used to execute your character's skills). I wish the puzzle system was explained a little better, because a few them are head scratchers because you're in the dark.
That's one of a few small complaints I have with this game: it has a very lightweight approach to explaining things. Too lightweight in some cases. Another glaring omission is having your enemy's hit points displayed. The only indication you have is when an enemy's name turns red, you know they're close to death.
I HIGHLY recommend this game if you like turn-based RPGs! You won't regret it!
Now for a spoiler regarding the ending. Don't read unless you played!
I do like that they left the ending open, because I would LOVE to play a sequel to tie up the loose ends!
Firstly let me say, before Steam Nextfest, I had never even heard of the Maliki series at all so I was coming into this with completely fresh eyes, and i won't lie, I kinda want more! And I also want to put a massive Thank you here to Souillon for stopping by to watch me play this! I hope you enjoyed someone having fun with this (even if I voiced all the girls badly lol).
To the Review!
The game whilst cutesy looking with fantastic 2d art and cute 3d art, has serious undertones that the story navigates quite well throughout! The world and characters feel so alive, Nothing feels like its forced, out of place or added just to check a box and it feels natural! And even though the world is at stake, it never feels like an overbearing rush! characters are able to have these personal times and comedic relief! Even random NPC's feel full of life in the situations they find themselves in.
The Battle system is simple turn based RPG with an emphasis on being able to manipulate turn order to set up Combos! I'll admit it is a fun mechanic but it took me a while to stop making it my sole focus in battle, because it can get you in trouble as much as you can do damage. I kept neglecting it can also be used to get you out of trouble or even let a character go before the enemy just to heal or something!
TP (mana) didn't really feel like an issue to me EXCEPT when going to a duoturn! I would like to see in future iterations the option to use an auto attack on a character if they don't have the TP for a skill in the Duo turn! it could also offer another combo option of 2 normal attacks, maybe even allow module usage during this for free!
There is ONE boss that made die inside a little, the power spike was like a cliff to climb. He was the one that made me change my entire game plan from "always do Duo skills" to "try to make him go as little as possible while poking" but he still humbled me! However off I went to fight other enemies a little and BOOM one and a half levels later, 3 new skills gained and we trounced him (we barely pulled through lol) so always be willing to change your tactics!
The farming is a relaxing breath from the harsh enemies that want you to become plant food but sadly there wasn't too much to do with it outside of the few side quests for people needing specific vegetables, making Buff food (of which i didn't need many) and naturon STONKS!
I think 2 things that may help this issue is firstly, not allowing the day to change while in the domaine UNLESS you take sand to bed! This would remove the rush to plant everything in the closest plots only and people could take their time to just make their entire domaine look how they want even if not for food! and for this maybe in future games add a bunch of flower types you can Trade vegetables for, just for cosmetic looks. The 2nd thing would be a toggle so that you could Snap Plants next to another like a grid system, as some times you could dtak a step too far and the plant would end up further distance than others and i love symmetry!
I can't say this enough... THE MUSIC *chefs kiss* I found myself humming along in the worlds or openly bopping to the boss music so many times!
There were a few bugs throughout the game, but they seem to be known and I would assume being worked on, but none of them were game breaking nor interrupted the flow of the game!
Overall a pretty fantastic little game, the story and the world definitely sold this on me even when I struggled with some of the fights at times, Honestly worth a playthrough! This was the 13th game I have beaten so far this year and it's up there as one of my most enjoyed! And i can't wait for the sequel!! FOR TIKOOOOOOOO!!!!!

What you see here is a cozy turn-based JRPG with beautiful graphics, relaxing music and likable characters. The difficulty level is balanced, the mechanics are cool and the story is well written.
I haven't read the webcomic yet, but I plan to do so because I want to grasp more of Maliki universe.
PS My only nitpick is that the title could be spelled as "Maliki: Poison of the Past" due to Steam Library aesthetic reasons.

The character art is nicely done, and the story and characters are interesting; but the gameplay is so bad that I have to force myself to play an hour or two to be able to get to the next bit of story before i have to set it down.... I may give up and watch a video walkthrough instead.
It's classic RPG style with some twists, which isn't a bad thing - but it's just a frustrating slog to play. Combat is slow and frustrating. Animations are nicely done, but be prepared to see the same 5 second animations over and over and over again, with no option to speed them up. Debuffs don't last long, so they fall into the "is it even worth using them?" conundrum. You'll be reapplying every 2-3 turns, if you have the TP to do so. You learn combo skills, but will rarely use most of them because of the scope of turn manipulation required.
You get some interesting "turn manipulation" ability, but you'll mostly use it to heal HP + TP, as skills are expensive and basically required to do much damage against many targets due to elements and resist to normal melee. Shifting turn combat order is an interesting concept, but overall very situational. Some skills have a "when used to counter enemy overlapping turn" use - but those skills are often terrible, or depend on knowing if the enemy is going to use a "Physical" or "Magical" type of attack on their turn for the counter to be of any use. (which is hard to predict).
There's a lot of backtracking between stages, get a key, go back to near the start for another key, go back to where you got the first key for a 3rd key (School area specifically frustrating here). Oh and to do any quests, double that backtracking. Then do it yet again after chapter is completed.
Equipment - Basically accessories that change your elemental weakness and some small tweaks.... however many areas have threats of all element types, so you'll always be taking extra damage from something in an area or boss fight no matter which weakness you choose.
Puzzles - I don't even want to get started on these. Not bad at the start, but once you get (4th character's 2nd puzzle skill) you'll understand the frustration.
Farming? It exists. You sort of need to do it for a "nature upgrade material" to expand the home base.
Oh, you want to make something useful out of the food you grew? Nah. Some mediocre foods with temporary buffs, which you can only carry a few of. You'll end up with tons of farmed food items you can't make much out of, because what you really want is the "nature upgrade material" you get. Disapointing. Wish we had a separate "healing food" pocket for HP/TP Party recovery foods we could cook.
I really wanted to like this game, streaming to the TV so my wife can enjoy the story as well (as she was a fan of Chrono Trigger in her youth, and many other games with Time travel shenanigans....) Even she agrees the gameplay itself is pretty rough.
